  1. Nice job there mate. Looks more Oaky to me though. If its a walnut its mahoosive.
  2. Had a "council" van the other day in the yard we share with everyone else. They were loading up road signs into a Transit tipper. Other council guys were coming and going but when we approached them about their "non liveried/logoed" hiv-viz they got agressive towards us in a strong irish accent. Police arrested them for attempted theft of road signs and theft of a hire van. Just as well we had the gonads to approach them or they would have stolen about 100 signs and frames. The council guys didnt approach them because they "had hi-viz jackets on and their truck had Highway Maintenance across the back".
  3. I destroyed 3/4 of my ligaments in my right knee 4 years ago downhill biking. I now have another mans knee ligaments in my knee and apart from discomfort from working on a slope most of the day it isnt too bad. Everynow and then it lets me know to stop being a fool when working on a slope or uneven terrain. But from day to day i have no problems after the op. I won't be downhill biking as much as i used to and i will only do the easier route.
  4. That looks stunning Pat. What oil/varnish/wax did you use?
  5. I would say gano as you can see brown dust on the ivy leaves below the bracket in pic four. Not jumping the gun or anything but a stab in the dark i would go for Ganoderma pfeifferi IMO
  6. Todays job. Install two bridleway gates. Was bloody freezing up on top of the hill, was pleasant seeing the snow go round us until we had 5 flurries one after the other. It wasnt nice snow either, small dusty stuff which stung like hell when it hit my face. Saw a cool cloud formation this morning as well.
  7. What are your opinions of this bridge anchor i put in today with the apprentice? Apparently it is put in incorrectly as it should be angled at a shallow angle atleast 2 feet (before it goes into the ground) away from the beam that it is attached to. I find my way is better as it is less of an eyesore and it completely gets rid of the risk of a trip hazard.
  8. All good apart from the ignition switch not working. We have to turn the key then open the bonnet to use the flywire. Next plan will be get it in the garage to have it replaced.
  9. Found out today that our landy has started to clear tracks of fallen branches by wedging them underneath the chassis. Was a bit close to the rear offside brake line.
  10. Found 5 different fungi on an old Wych Elm stump. 1 - Dead mans fingers 2 - 4 - ?Desiscated Ganoderma resinaceum? 5 - ? Mycena sp? 6 - Lycoperdon spadiceum 7 - 8 - Kretschmaria deusta
  11. Now the pheasant season is over its now time to do some roost shooting. Between 3 of us we shot 19. I dropped 4 out into a field of low rape but could only find feathers.
  12. For when we had a young lad who had been out with us for 6 weeks of work exp. "Go big or go home". We only used it for when he was very lightly tapping the upright of a footread in. Or if we have dismantled a stile and the posts have come out easily and have filled with water "Don't touch him up, knock him out!!" Soon after they are covered in lovely muddy water
  13. Had our last day of the season, 18 guns (two teams of 9) Finished on 255, 241 Pheasants and 14 Paddies. I shot like a man possesed on the first drive then average man for the rest of the day
  14. Does this link work better? https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Windermere+Drive,+Croft&hl=en&ll=52.554999,-1.238452&spn=0.000566,0.00142&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=9.013986,23.269043&oq=windermere+drive,+Croft++Leicestershire&t=h&hnear=Windermere+Dr,+Croft,+United+Kingdom&z=20&layer=c&cbll=52.554946,-1.238321&panoid=xcCYBaX0aKXfBbraPhRswg&cbp=12,25.86,,0,4.08
  15. I know the Health and Safety brigade will jump on me for this but when reversing the trailer long distances we put an adjustable spanner down the in the slot. We only do it on the tractor trailer if its unladen. Its an oldish Ifor Williams. We generally only do it if we are reversing it into the "barn" as there is a lip which the tyres wont go over if the brakes are stopping them. Our Wessex tipper doesnt have that problem but it does tend to lock up when laden...
  16. Tiz a cracking ale. Especially when the local tesco does it for a quid a bottle on the bottom shelf
  17. Todays job was to install an 8 ft field gate. Holes were filling with water as soon as we augered them out. Postcrete set reasonably quickly despite the water in the holes.
  18. Out tomorrow for an unlimited bag day. £100+ tip. 20 guns two teams of ten so will be able to surround some drives. Will be a good laugh as might be having someone from guns on pegs out with us for the day.
  19. Ha ha on the Ale tonight started on two cans of Ruddles County now on Old Speckled hen. Currently typing in my Stihl thermal top that arrived yesterday. Been shooting with it on today as a base layer and its nice. My old thermal top is a bit clingy but this one feels tight but it is still free moving enough. I recon thats why i had what i thought was 2 left and rights on the duck but infact turned out to be 3 as they found a duck of mine in the next drive. They knew it was mine as it was hit very very hard (feathers out from breast) and it didnt have as many feathers on the chest as it should have done. A good day made even better.
  20. Had a beauty of a day. Started off with shooting two left and right teal and mallard. Then 5 further single teal and a high pigeon which dropped into the river. Then because i'm a smarmy git i won the sweep for the second time this week ha ha.
  21. Yup shot yesterday and won the sweep. 19 quid in the black so all good. Shooting again tomorrow and again friday n sat. Friday is a sold day but we have been told no to take any prisoners (within reason).
