  1. Its wetter and windier that a queefing fish out there tonight. Glad i got the beers when i did. Will be bringing the dogs in tonight as don't want them to catch a chill tonight.
  2. Stereum sp - Orange brackets+ Peniophora quercina - Grey-lilac crust + C. purpureum = Threesome. Although i have never heard of Peniophora causing brackets before.
  3. Found on top of the same branch so its a fungal threesome:thumbup:
  4. I looked at the far side of a very long Oak limb (see bottom of post #229) It appear it also has Silver leaf fungus growing along the same line which looks to have been caused by an old stub wound which hasnt sealed yet. The plan is to remove that limb and the limb above it as both are extremely long lever arms.
  5. Checked two bridges today. First one is a simple remove limbs and way mark. Second one was repaired a month ago. River has lifted it up at one end so next plan is to put better earth anchors onto the bridge as used old ones hoping they would hold.
  6. Stihl thermal top arrived today and its a perfect fit. Wouldnt have wanted a medium thats for sure. Will be putting it to the test for the rest of the week.
  7. Meant to be doing a 6.5 metre timber Footpath bridge tomorrow. With cross struts into the banks. Not a hope in hell getting to the site as the farm has very helpfully ploughed the field we were going to drive around the edge to. His tractor is stuck out i nthe field complete with plough and i am not carrying a full bridge kit 900 metres across deep sodden plough. It can wait until the crop is in or until it dries out massively.
  8. Had a snotting day today. Made myself 19 quid on the sweep as put 195 but we shot 238 total including vermin. Was very happy with my efforts on the last drive. Shot 9 on the blank then another 28 whilst standing. Next beaters day is weds then a sold day on the 1st Feb.
  9. Saw a pair of Hen Harriers on a shoot i am beating/shooting on Monday. Although it is unheard of we like raptors on the shoot as they only pick off the wounded/weak/wild/old birds. They leave the healthy ones as they get out of the way quicker. The buzzards and occasional Red kite and migrant/released European Eagle owl keeps tabs on the local Fox population.
  10. Had 3 bottle of ale and half pint of Tesco finest port tonight just about to hit the sack
  11. Ermmm No comment on that one lol I can but not very well:lol:
  12. Yup shooting tomorrow on a beaters day. Already warned them that i become "David Bailey" on the beaters days.
  13. Very very heavy drizzle here at the mo. Meant to be shooting tomorrow. Hoping the birds wont be too soggy to fly. If i'm on stop i'll be happy enough to drop woodcock, pigeons, jays and crows that fly past my spot.
  14. Squirrel pie for tea tomorrow night then
  15. Snowing really heavy here. Settling on wet roads had about an inch or so in the last hour.
  16. No doubt some of the Exmoor/Dulverton members would know or heard of him. I met him on several occasions and he was a good laugh to chat to. BBC News - Somerset postman dies in snow on Exmoor
  17. Cheers the last picture is of two redwoods. One of them lost its top in 1987 (right tree) the other lost its top in January last year. I was i nthe wood when it let go.
  18. This is a local woodland near me which is FC owned it was planted post WW2 with Oak and fir. The fir were felled about 5 years ago leaving the oaks more room to grow. The site has been hammered the past few years by a species of moth but not OPM. The only special part about the site is the amount of diversity with deer rides cut through, the odd veteran oak and a group of large sequoias at the top of the wood of which about 8 surround the site of where a Spitfire was shot down by a Messer complete with its 19 year old pilot which died in the crash.
  19. Nothing much just an ivy clad Oak failure across a path. Nothing wrong with the rootplate just sheer weight of snow.
  20. Shooting next sat providing the weather behaves itself.
  21. This is our youngest pup Deisel quartering without command for a buried tennis ball. I was trying to simulate a shot woodcock (as they have very limited scent). [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41LRZgjbLYA&list=HL1358628177]Deisel Quartering at 8 months - YouTube[/ame]
  22. Yup was tricky getting there but made it just about. Its freezing out again tonight -7 according to met office:lol:
  23. Yup got a brace of woodcock and 6 brace of pheasant. All in the pot ready for tomorrow lunchtime.
  24. Total bag was 51 pheasant, 5 woodcock, 2 pigeon and 1 Jay:thumbup:
