V.T.A symptoms "the chatty trees"
Matthew Arnold replied to Tony Croft aka hamadryad's topic in Tree health care
I popped down yesterday and got some more shots of the tree. Got some funny looks when i was getting pics of the tree from various angles. And just to get everyones juices flowing another internal cavity shot. -
Not strictly tree related but countryside related

Your mower sounds like our normally reliable BCS flail. We picked it up yesterday morning but dropped it off at end of play as it dropped a bearing on the flail roller. No warning just a shed load of vibration which killed the motor. It originally went in for a broken clutch cable and excessive play on the centre coupling (which was foobared completely). -

Nothing much to report this week other than one hell of an overgrown byway that we started clearing today. You would be lucky to get a midget down it before we started. -
V.T.A symptoms "the chatty trees"

I forgot to get pics of the base of this Oak which has dryadeus and i think also Australe. The australe is in the large basal cavity. Its big enough to get a decent sized camera in to get shots. There is some pretty extreme fluting and flaring at the base. It has a very healthy crown which is a good sign. No signs of buckling at the base though or structural cracks. -
Cheers. Floyd (middle) is 2. Deisel the black n white is 16 months and Bracken (top) is 7 at the end of the month but has glaucoma so wont be out beating for the rest of his life. We also have a 14 year old springer who is very unsteady on his feet.

The KM130R that was in the workshop has been condemned to the skip as the engine isn't financially repairable. It appears the top ring on the piston as some point had a burr and the burr has scored the bore to hell. The engine was only just producing enough PSI to fire. Over time its has overheated and weakened the inlet valve which has dropped and been pushed into the top of the casing just to the right of the spark plug. Will see if i can get hold of it and get pics of it as it looks rather impressive. On another note our DR has gone in for a tensioner pulley arm bearing as that let go this afternoon.

Ta mate. Sadly that was from my now dead Ixus 115 HS. Now gone up in the world with a Powershot SX260 HS. Bit of a lump to have in my pocket but its still better than having a big bridge or SLR bag rolling around.

Just got back from a mates farm. Poor sod had just lost 2 combines, 3 tractors, 2 balers and wrappers and 2 telehandlers to a spontaneous combustion of a muck heap at the back of his machinery barn. The winds must have fanned it and it found the sleepers and kerosene and deisel tanks and that was it. Was going to be getting some extra coinage for helping him with his harvest this week as well. The heavens opened whilst were there watching it burned was like something out a movie.

Chicken of the woods for sure -
Got some heavy rain on the way over the next 24 hours. Could have as much as 60 mm in 12 hours in places. Need the rain both to top the aquifers and reservoirs but also to ush the rubbish through the rivers.

Mum found some pics of shoots past and present that dad and i used and still go to. It was lump it throat stuff as most of the elderly beaters who we got on really well with have now passed away. A few veterans are still around but they are few and far between.

Cheers. Been having a play with my new toy.

Time to kick start this long lost thread again. We are getting a contractor in hopefully this winter with a tracked flail or similar to flat pack the site apart from the heather. This year everything has gone nuts up there to the point where the grass was 6 ft high in places. I have also inlcuded some pics of the famous Woolland Hill Yew and an Ash with some funky brackets.

From that sharp ended response i am just gonna post pics of what i know and not even attempt to get my head around aggressive fungi and the trees defense mechanisms. As i am obviously out of my league in the fungi world and if i put my two penneth in, i don't get shown where i have gone wrong i just get slapped out with a sledgehammer.
