I have a downhill run next to us known as UK Bike Park. I used to go there but i am now saving up for a new bike after my last one decided to snap on the back end. I now have an embaressing scar on my lower back when my back tyre stopped when it hit my back. The knobbly tyres acted like rubber cheese graters down my back. -
We did some chalk grassland restoration today. I had an idea in my head on what we needed to do and got it done. Had a good bonfire and a good laugh as one of my colleagues attempted to do a lunge and ended up on his backside doing it. Still its one hell of a transformation from what it was. Now got to wait until april to see what comes up.

I've been volunteering since i left college (over 4 years ago). Since ive been volunteering ive been getting training that has been paid for on my behalf. So I add to my CV. It gives me much needed expierience in the sector which is needed in almost every job i apply for.

Bulldog for Billhooks, Snedding axes, etc Spear and Jackson for loppers. Bacho for bowsaws. Silky for folding saws and our only Zubat. Stihl for 2 stroke powertools DR and Lawnflite for 4 stroke mowers Makita and Ryobi for electric tools. We also run a 1400watt power inverter from our L200 as we have 2 12 volt adapters. If it is dry we use the battery and one of the internals.

This sunday we are having a tree planting volunteer task. got 600 whips to plant. Going to be nice and easy. Hopefully the soil will be nice and soft.

Ah fair enough. No worries. Maggies obviously didnt know where to build their nest this year with those other bases. And its too early for the blooming things too be nesting already. We found an active pigeon nest this morning on the first job just as well i guess as we were just about to clear fell that section. It wasnt there last week.

Maggies dont invade rook nests. Normally the other way round but oh well. Plenty more rooks in the country. But one of em looked like a fresh rook nest but may be wrong.

Were they rook nests i spied in the tops of those syc's before they were thinned?

Fire damage i recon. Judging by the height of the scar and the char marks left on what would have been the cambium before it was well cooked.

Nice example of compartmentalisation going on there. Shame the tree was loosing badly.

We have a 14 x 6 ft twin axle with the caged sides. We do the exact same as you. We put a mark on the plywood to tell us when the trailer is at the vehicles max towing weight. Only had it overloaded once then decided to have 2.7 ton of chippings loaded in and level then routed a line into the 12mm marine ply. Its held in by cable ties so its nice and easy to remove. But certainly makes it feel like your dragging a parachute behind you and in a crosswind it has almost caught us out.

We had an ivy clad ash felled yesterday and the bloke who was climbing it said it was squeaking near the canopy but there were no crossing branches. Only when the ivy was cleared we realised what it was. A tight fork heavily clad in ivy had split about halfway down and the top of the tree was effectively being held up by the ivy. The climber very quickly descended and set up an anchor in an ivy free tree next door. -
Insa Turbo Dakar are the same tread pattern as the old style BFG Muds. My dad and i run them on our defender. Not a problem and only slid a few times. Never got stuck......... Touch wood.

We have a petrol station near our yard which is charging £1.50 a litre for deisel and £1.48 for petrol lol.

On most of our sites we have bats either just passing through or roosting. On 3 of our sites we have Greater Horseshoe Bats which roost and breed in Bryanston School and roost in Sturminster Newton Mill but they are just passing through and feeding.

Up on Bulbarrow we have a site called Woolland Hill which has a massive old Yew. The woods on the other side of the road have some corking Beech trees but most of it is private. If Monkey-D is interested i am sure i can arrange with my colleagues to take you around some of our sites. Both urban and out in the sticks.

Plank it. Would be worth more. Its been down for a while and judging by the roots its had something chewing away at it.

Can either be milled on site or cut into suitable sized chunks ready for milling. As josharb87 said might be worth contacting RobD he may be interested with an oak that size. 5 ft diametre is a decent size for an oak.

How large is large? Whats it diametre? Any fungi growing at base or anywhere on tree? Spalted timber is always worth more than standard timber.

Had a good day until some little sod on a push bike knocked me down. I was well off the footpath and was hit by him. I did explain that he should be on the tarmac path but he wanted to play in the mud. The lens will come out but wont go back in so it shall be going back to where we bought it from as it is still under warranty. Still had a good day watching the England V India ODI and Birmingham beat Arsenal 2 -1.

Here are some more pics of the dodgy Oak Limb on Milldown. Sadly my camera is now broken after i was knocked down by some little so n so on a mountain bike. I was well off the footpath as i could hear him racing round the footpath. Lens is now bust and will be going to the repairers tomorrow morning for a new lens. Just as well its still under warranty.

Got plenty of those. Got bout 20 floaters, 30 full body and 40 half shell "bobbers". We have a flapper and a wirly each. If its blowing a gooden we dont use the whirly or flapper as it makes the birds flare off but the floaters on a windy day work very very well. We sometimes use some real dead ones as well.
