  1. He thought it was going to do a simple cut but decided to do a dog tooth with no room for error. The bore cut is slightly lower than the sink cut but only by a tooth width. I was in training then and was the day before the assessment. It could be the camera angle or the fact i didn't cut the hinge off flat.
  2. He was teaching us how to fell without winches but he admitted that the tree had more back weight than he thought. On the 3 day course we only needed to use the tirfor twice which ain't bad.
  3. It was a 10 inch back leaner at the original felling cut but it had too much weight so sat on the bar and i didn't have the strength to lift it the other way. So did a dog tooth about 18 inches about the original cut to fell it the other way. The tree was only about 7 inches wide there so did a small gob, bored in and left a very small bit of holding wood on the back. I couldn't do a simple fell as it would have barbers chaired on me.
  4. A ballsy dog tooth according to my CS31 instructor. Attempted a split level on a back leaner but was too much weight for me to lift with the felling bar. So dog toothed it to fell it the way of the weight. The penny and size 8 boot are for scale. No room for error on the bore cut. I was given a 9/10 for placement n 9.8/10 for hinge
  5. Had a nice walk with the mutts on saturday getting pics of a few celandines making an appearance and the Dogs Mercury waking up after its winter slumber.
  6. Garden hose as a pulling rope to pull a back weighted leylandii which split out in the st jude storm. Cable tied a recoil housing to a strimmer after someone slammed the tailgate into it and broke the mounting points.
  7. Our red devil/menace/smoker call it what ya will went in for a few niggly problems. We only had 1 working main beam out of 4, the horns were shot and the rear shock bushes were knackered. Turns out the rear shocks were foobared, and we blew all but one of the main beam wiring looms lol. Dont ya just love 18 year old landies
  8. Blandford trailway after last nights howler. Going to be a laugh dealing with those on Monday. Got 6 more down on another local bit of trailway but will get pics of them tomorrow.
  9. Blowing like hell in Dorset. Lost a Ridge tile onto the neighbours car, and soon after an end tile to the lean to/porch. Been stood down for call outs due to extreme conditions. Saw a fence panel pop out down the road. Last time i saw something like that was St Jude.
  10. Howling now but was doing my CS31 training. Its meant to be a 3 day course but only done two full days so far. Did my good deed for the day and helped a van driver get off a very soft verge. Got covered in mud but got a free pint for it.
  11. We have about 15 Fiskars L27" loppers with the gear head. They are great for what we use them for. So light to carry about, very durable. We sorted the handle popping issue with a blob of araldite on the handle.
  12. Hack it back to the original cuts or the collars of the regen. It will come back with avengeance next year.
  13. Got a dixon bates on our L200 4 seater. The only downside we found with the single pin design is it constantly clonked over rough roads. We swapped it for the two pin plate after 3 months and didn't look back. One thing to look for is locking pins as we had some theiving bugger in a local dog walking spot nick ours off our 110. We only had it for 2 weeks then.
  14. We just steam cleaned our BCS deck ready for its hammer change as the workshop wanted it as clean as possible. As i had the pressure washer out we did our cub cadet fine cut mower as the deck wash system on it leaves a fair bit clinging on. Got new blades on the way for the cub cadet as they are beyond sharpening now.
  15. We run our BCS on super unleaded as it seams to give it more power than the standard stuff. It also makes it run better too. The only draw back is the octane levels when letting it run down after a long flat out stint, it tends to back fire about 5 seconds when it stops.
  16. Christened my new bike today cycling around some of our sites after the floods.
  17. So now the pheasant season is finished. Its time to get onto the roost shooting. Had a reasonable afternoon. 3 pigeon and a squirrel. The squirrel was just looking at me on top of a tree branch about 50 yards away so gave it a barrel and down it came. All going to be in the pot soon.
  18. Nope. That would have been my western colleagues. Did the number plate finish in AFF? I was down west on thursday doing some chipping at Bridport co-op in the rain.
  19. Our BCS snapped the spring which works the dead mans system this afternoon. Nice easy job to put a new one back on as it snapped about 2 coils in. Soon going to be replaced by a german equivalent, with the possibility of adding a flail collector to the front for verge cutting.
  20. Our 110. Had to get the old man out to give us a hand. As our truck wouldnt pull it for toffee.
  21. Been raining since 3.30 this morning and hasnt stopped. It was torrential on the way to Bridport, heavy drizzle as we worked then it opened again as we drove back. We had a phone call to go and tow out a stuck council wagon in a field lol. He was well stuck and needed a Ford ranger and the Red menace to pull him out.
  22. Forgot to say the engine case was split next to the spark plug so was decided that we should strip it for parts. The MS170 chain brake works fine now after we removed a small (<5mm) of the plastic engine cover where it was rubbing. It now works as it should.
  23. We had an MS170 with a broke chainbrake handle and a 260 with a blown piston. So we took the chainbrake handle off the 260 and put it on the 170. Bit of plastic cutting and it works. Will get a picture of it. Think of Jeremy Beadles hand and ya get the idea lol.
