  1. This is what we use for loading our mowers in and out of the vans with. Ideal for what we need them for. XL Aluminum Folding Arch Ramp
  2. The pictures don't show the crown poking a long way above the near by ash line. It is protected by the Northerly and Easterly winds but gets caught by the Southerlies and Westerlies. When we had the October storm rattle through i was surprised to see a lot of beech leaf and small sticks on the floor and lots of deadwood on the floor from the beech trees but no signs of large scale failures. I will put the idea forward about using a PTO winch to make that union fail and see if we can pollard it to that point.
  3. Had our two TO's come out and the site ranger responsible for the site. The prognosis is either fell or brace. If we reduce it we lessen the risk of it failing a the union as the cracks are structural and not cambial. We would rather brace it but the TO wasn't keen on it. So we'll be dropping it sadly.
  4. The targets are woodland trees and a well used path which can't be diverted unfortunately. We are looking to brace it as soon as possible.
  5. I spotted these cracks with black deposits below a set of stazi ears on one of our large Beech trees. They got off pretty lightly in the storms with very few limb snap outs, just copious amounts of deadwood. To my untrained eye i am sure these are not expansion cracks as they usually appear more slowly and heal quicker than these. The fourth and fifth pic you can see last years expansion cracks. Any ideas?
  6. Put a new shorter belt on the cub cadet today and what a difference it has made. The problem with the other belts is they were about 2 inches too long so there was alot of slack for the tension spring to take up which has worn the spring out. Because we are using it for verges we were using the mulching attachment to stop stones/wood pinging out of the discharge. On the heavy grass it struggled like crazy so we have come up with a solution... Use a piece of 3mm thick rubber matting as a "grass flap" over the discharge. It will only be held on by cable ties so easily removable. The big question is for the mower folk... Would this be in breach of PUWER Regs as we are modifying the side discharge to stop/slow the grass before it reaches cars?
  7. Our poor girl is going in for the second water pump in 12 months (buy cheap/ buy twice) and a new rocker gasket as its leaking badly between two n 3 injector. We noticed yesterday that when revved hard when let back to idle it nearly stalls and a couple of times it did. It is smoking more than normal so she'll be in for new fuel filters.
  8. Currently having a very rough week at work. We started off well but we are now 2 vehicles down. Our Land Rover 130 has a major leak on the rear axle brake lines and a hub seal collapsed, and the transit beaver tail has fatigue cracks where the beaver tail bolts to the chassis ends. I'm in need of several beers tomorrow.
  9. We have a Cub Cadet 86cm E start which is eating blade drive belts for fun. We bought 5 last year and we are on our last one. We don't give it a hard time but the tensioner arm was bent (over confident boss and heavy grass) last year. We were meant to be using it for verge cutting on the smaller verges but it just doesnt quite cut the mustard even with brand new blades. I have been looking at Toro walk behinds or Scags. Scags seem to be overpriced but the next alternative Great Danes seem too big for the smaller verges. Any other suggestions?
  10. Easiest way is to follow the diversion up/down the A350. Or use the A30 if coming from west or east. Its the slope next to the church which is moving. There is a public footpath which had apparently widened about half its length but the parishioners said they had done some work to make the path wider but that was on the bottom of the path.
  11. Just found out a local C road is likely to be shut for the coming months due to unstable slopes. The road had 3 small slips last year in the storms and about 15 trees down on the same stretch of road. Due to the size of the lorries who use the road and the width of the road, the road has been shut until the banks are stabilised. It may only be a C road but it is extremely busy with local traffic. BBC News - 'Unstable slopes' close main Melbury Abbas route
  12. I have searched high and low for the tyre pressures on a 58 plate transit beavertail but cant find any. I would put 10psi under the maximum normally but as it is dual wheel and has a wacking gurt mower on the back i'm not so sure. What do the transit arbwagons have on the rear?
  13. Todays offerings. Who needs a £1500 camera with a 900 quid lens if ya cant even set up in the right spot. Now who can tell me what animal the poo in the last picture is from. The prize is 1 beer token for the first correct answer.
  14. Hod Hill NNR in Dorset. Its just outside Child Okeford. We've had about 6 trees come down along the path since xmas but hadn't noticed the cracks.
  15. Had a report of a hill side bridleway with cracks in it 2 weeks ago so we closed the path. We assessed it again today and found this.....
  16. We're in the same boat mate. Got loads of work to do just finding time to do it all. We won't think we will stop felling un ivy clad trees until may at the earliest. Still reeling from the storms. Got 4 bridges to measure up and get built and installed by contractors. I think this sign i picked up from the West country game fair is very apt for most of us.
  17. Feeling queasy tonight. Been running like a tap since 10 this morning. Up and down to the loo. Just about to eat food but have a fuzzy head n guts like a washing machine. Don't think i'll be going into work tomoz feeling like this.
  18. Getting ever closer to the year anniversary. What makes it worse is this year it falls on the May bank holiday Monday. We are already organizing a big ride out to the scene and laying flowers. The local bike club are organizing an event too so we are hoping we can co-ordinate the event. We are also planning on booking out his favourite restaurant for everyone to go in and have a big meal. Everyone at work knows why i am quieter than normal each month on the 25/26th.
  19. Todays purchases which weren't food or booze.
  20. Yup but not to the point to point.
  21. "Actually" gets my goat up for some reason For example - "Actually, that flower is incredibly rare in these parts of the world." Despite there being a massive patch of it along the entire length of the path. Or "Actually, i really enjoyed that BBQ." Implying they were going to regret eating it before i cooked it. "I was like" hacks me off too. My sister uses it alot i.e "I was like, your a dick mate, then i was like perhaps i should have got his number like":cursing::cursing:
  22. We had the big stone moved yesterday with a mini digger. The man designing the roundabout had ordered 30 ton of stone but 20 would have been plenty for the roadside border.
