  1. Not very clear shots but got 2 pics of slow worms using some tins we put down. Two of the tins have been down about a year the other two have been down about 2 weeks.
  2. New blades were ordered last friday and fitted today. £17.50 each plus £5 fitting. Not too bad but they have a hardened edge so they can take stone impacts a bit more.
  3. The winter wheat is ready for harvest but the spring barley has another few weeks or so. I'm not sure why the beans are so early its only in a few spots but the majority of it is still very green.
  4. Here are some pics of said pond and our best option put into place to hold the duckweed back but still allow water to flow. We did a pond dip and found several newts and Efts (baby newts) so plenty of oxygen still in the water.
  5. Ye a wide fan nozzle. We use it as our generic nozzle.
  6. The first one looks like a Common Puffball (common on well kept grass) The other two are Sulphur Tuft (Hypholoma fasciculare
  7. Knapsack sprayer with a green angled nozzle on the lance. If using Asulox, the mix is 500ml/10litre of water.
  8. Yep the majority of the winter wheat has been harvested already and the farms who planted beans are just making a start on them too
  9. Hi. I see you work for Knighton. Do you work with a lad called Tom Differ and a man called Julian Cooper?

  10. Alot of the farms around my way are harvesting the winter wheat. The barley isn't quite ready yet but the beans are.
  11. Well i had a cracking time walking. We walked 11.5 miles in about 4 hours. Lots of up and down hills. We started in Torquay and finished in a small town called Shaldon on the Teign estuary. The friend that dropped us off went round to the finishing point and booked a nice little chalet for us to stay in. We all had two good harty meals and lots of beers.
  12. We have an SLA (Service Level Agreement) with a few local parishes to maintain their RoW. We did our rounds of mowing in a village called Child Okeford. As our main mower was in for repair (diff lock failure and new drive belt) we had to do it all by strimming. Had some fun along the way and got a nice picture of the Friday team. In the last pic from left to right (Me, Liam [work exp] Sam [FJF], Luke [stepping Stones scheme and PTSD sufferer).
  13. I came across this today whilst doing our RoW maintenance rounds. It was only just in the tree and was within falling distance of a very well used UCR (Unclassified County Road). I went to the nearest farm to ask if they knew about a hung up dead branch in a large oak coming from their field. They said yes and gave us the go ahead to make the limb safe (on the deck). 5 minutes later the rope was up and attached to the van and made safe. No pics of during or after sadly as camera battery went flat.
  14. In Gillingham, Dorset i manage 4 sites (Hawthorn Avenue, Rolls Bridge, Chantry Fields and Addison Close). We have some pretty cool trees on Hawthorn Avenue and Rolls Bridge. Chantry Fields is a river fringe site and Addison Close is a site where people flytip their household waste. Anyhoo here are the pics. 1,2+3 - Lombardy Poplar, Hawthorn Avenue 4,5,6,7,8+9 - Large Acacia, Hawthorn Avenue 10,11 12+13 - Horse Chestnut, Hawthorn Avenue 14,15,16,17,18+19 - Ganoderma spp on Alder, Hawthorn Avenue 20 - Ill Rowan caused by ringbarking around base, Rolls Bridge 21+22 - Deadwood habitat in Cherry, Rolls Bridge 23+24 - Very healthy Rowan, Rolls Bridge 25,26,27,28+29 - Fly tipped matress and other household stuff, Addison Close (Almost weekly collections of stuff now)
  15. Nah the bird. Although he does keep saying that he is attractive to both sexes:001_rolleyes: We always give him stick for that lol
  16. A cute one of my colleague holding a Robin fledgling. We had strimmed the footpath before we spotted him.
  17. Sorting through my many albums found Evanescence. Now i remember why i bought it. Mmmm Amy Lee:thumbup: [ame] [/ame]
  18. Off out again this weekend. Only walking Saturday and until sunday lunchtime but should be good fun. the Saturday stop point is Torquay so may have a few drinks whilst we are there.
  19. Would you class this as a veteran Alder? I've been meaning to take a few pics of it for ages. Completely hollow and only about half the tree remaining.
  20. Yup. There was oil coming out but wasnt the usual steady stream that there should be at full throttle. It was more of a dribble.
  21. Yep. Clean as a whistle but damp with oil.
  22. I noticed today that after my saw (2009 MS341) ran out of fuel, the chain was smoking and the bar was steaming. The chain was a brand new semi-chisel. I checked the oil and had 2/3 a reservoir of oil left. I know is blocked but when i did my chainsaw ticket a couple of years ago the instructor said that you could use bbq lighter fluid or similar to flush the reservoir and pipe out. Is this true? One of my colleagues last year on the same saw flushed the tank out with deisel as it was clogged up. Do you think the deisel may have done some damage?
  23. Best time to cut it would be in the winter and hammer it back as much as you want. It grows like mad (depending on growing conditions). Even if you knock down to a 3 foot high stump it would only take a couple of years or so to become a nicely shaped and easily managed bush.
