  1. Got some shots of two Norway Maples. One of them is in a heavily used car park with Coprinus spp growing at the base with an obvious sink. The other looks like it has split sometime in its life and is now healed back up.
  2. Lesser Stag Beetle sunning itself on the tarmac path around Milldown. And a Goldfinch taken on the trailway about 100 metres from Milldown.
  3. Had an alright night sleep but woke up with a stinking headache. Probably dehydrated as didn't drink enough yesterday. Pint of water with a teaspoon of salt and sugar has sorted that.
  4. No worries. Still waiting for my book as well. Put it on express delivery as well
  5. Just looking on the "Rogers Mushrooms" website it looks very much like Russula roseipes.
  6. The MOD doesn't own any of it. Part of the estate (now thick hazel coppice and xmas tree plantations) were used during the war to house soldiers for the d-day landings as there is an old air field on the boundary.
  7. Plenty of Xmas trees big and small on the estate. Enough to keep the danes happy for a few years.
  8. Not a clue but there are rumours that Prince Charles is going to buy it for The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The sporting side of it will be staying there as will the pig farm.
  9. Local shooting, farming estate near me is on the market. Complete with 18th century Grade 1 listed mansion. Crichel estate on sale for £100m (From Bournemouth Echo)
  10. Nope. And at the risk of me sounding like a complete muppet. What is the KOH test?
  11. We were spraying today. We normally wear paper suits when doing path edges but boss said it would make us dehydrate more than normal so just wore waterproof gaters over our boots. 5 sites done before we ran out of water. Must have drank 5 litres of water today. Now urinating like a flaming race horse lol.
  12. Got some more pics of the possible trogii.
  13. Be a massive amount to cut off that tree then. Might imbalance it but then again if most of the weight is going towards the house then if the weight is taken off to the point of the boundary then it may get the tree to rebalance.
  14. We had a spate of tree felling on our sites. We had some oik running around with a bowsaw felling trees at will. We had to replace almost all of our benches because they had been cut through. Not long after that we had some going around with a chainsaw felling or ringbarking sizable (18 inch + dhb) trees that we had to fell much to the upset of the local community.
  15. Might be worth them having a few words with the neighbour asking if it is ok for a tree surgeon to remove the branches that are coming over the boundary. Sound drastic but would be best way of almost eliminating the risk. How big is said Walnut?
  16. The blackening leaves and the rot are most likely caused by different fungi. The black slime is most likely caused by a form of slime flux. If the tree has grown over/around the rope and still has a good crown then there shouldn't be any problems. If they are concerned about the tree they should think about reducing it incase they is something more sinister at work. But other than that i guess just monitor the crown over the coming months. If it does suddenly drop leaves before autumn then something is majorly wrong.
  17. Taken 24/6/11. A very wee fungi found growing amongst wood bits.Mycena acicula.
  18. Taken 23/4/11 Pic 1 - Coprinus truncorum
  19. Yep still out surveying. The rain this year has hammered the butterfly numbers. Got to be doing a moth trap night fairly soon. Thinking about doing it on Saturday night.
  20. I ID'd it via this website. It is the same Roger Phillips who did the mushroom book. Rogers Mushrooms - Coriolopsis gallica Mushroom
  21. This may get the fung hunters drooling.Coriolopsis gallica found on Mildown growing on a well rotted Ash stump. We have Honey fungus come up all around it in the autumn. Bosses are happy with this find as its a new one to the site. I took lots of shots of grassland fungi on the Hangings part of the Milldown. When i get my new book i shall post them with relevant fungi names.
  22. Got some nice shots of a very dosile Marbled White on Milldown this afternoon. We had a heavy shower about 30 mins before hand so i think it was drying itself out.
  23. A couple of years ago i was out lambing. There was a village about 2 miles away with a fete on. When it was dark i saw the lanterns going up. One of them came down onto a massive (600+ bale straw rick) and torched the lot. Because it was about 3 miles from the nearest road it wasnt reported as it went up very quickly and wasnt saveable. Still it kept me very warm that evening:thumbup:
  24. The unknown ones werent in the books i had with me.
