  1. ^ Expensive. Try this: Makita DLX2012M Power Tool Kit 18v 4Ah Li-ion Batteries 2pce Or if your fine with 3AH, even cheaper: Makita DLX2005 Power Tool Kit 18v 3Ah Li-ion Batteries 2pce 0088381661584
  2. I think the OP needs to decide what the maximum weight he wishes to swing around is, he's being recommended pretty much every saw ever made in this thread....
  3. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/training-health/67369-paleo-diet.html This will change your life for the better. Well done on the job- make this the year you turn your life around. Start lifting weights as well.
  4. Screwfix are overpriced on all power tools. Don't wait for three or four different 'specials' to make a set up, get a decent price for a set from a tool factors like powertoolsuk.com.
  5. If you're buying new then the 18v Makita LXT is your best best. It's been covered in depth here. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/66174-cordless-drill.html and here http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/27808-cordless-drills-opinions.html
  6. Why no MS 251 on the list? Nice saw, much more value for money than the MS261. On a 12 or 14" bar the MS251 is idea for nature reserve work-small trees and scrub. You're not going to find the perfect saw that's great for that and also ringing up butts bigger than 2' across.
  7. I'm trying not to imagine the stress a mounting like that must put on the front of the Mog when picking a full bucket of chip off the ground. Tractor loaders come with brackets that go right back to the cab, and sometimes the back axle, for a reason. I take it there is something similar under your cab? First thing I'd do is make some pallet forks up, I think they will come in handy even more than the bucket! I presume visibility is pretty crap so I'd be wary about making it worse by using flip down bucket mount forks like a 3CX.
  8. Do you intend to pay any money?
  9. That bar looks tired. Say, I know where there's one for sale....
  10. Why does he keep reversing back, doesn't the chipper have feed in control?? It would be especially effective for customers who don't pay on time. Nothing like rocking up, putting the grab around their car, switching on the chipper and blipping the throttle to get prompt payment!
  11. Not sure about Jewsons, but Coomers larchlap panels are better than the ones from a well known specialist fencing suppliers. The recent strong winds have indeed put demand through the roof. Lots of hurriedly made wet crap being sold. Couldn't believe it when four foot high larchlap panels were sagging in the middle!
  12. Ah, you mean chestnut pales. Try Eli Franklin at Petworth, they make the stuff. PM me if you can't find the number and I will find out. Not sure if they do web. I'd be tempted to take a truck load over too!
  13. To be fair, the Honda isn't a bad machine, and was pleasant enough to use. I'm not so sure you wouldn't be better off with a second hand professional machine such as an FS460. The full length anti vibe makes such a difference, I wouldn't use a bike handle strimmer without it now. You can get an FS460 for £300 second hand, in fact I have one I would part with for that.
  14. Should be fine. Stop talking about unguarded- all you need is one without bumper tie straps. Full chisel cuts faster but not enough to notice on that size saw. Yet a small touch to the ground can be enough to dull it twice as much as it would semi chisel. Stick to semi chisel. Rob D on here (post # 5) runs chainsawbars.com- he is your man, just PM him and he will sort you out for a good price. A touch up every tank is excessive in all but the worst conditions. If you genuinely need to touch up every tank and you're not working in timber that's been skidded through sand, then you need to work on your saw handling. If you've been sharpening that often, have you checked the depth gauges? That will make it much less aggressive in the cut if they are too tall.
  15. Full chisel is fractionally faster, but not enough for you to worry about. You'll waste more time keeping it sharp than you save cutting. I would say the issue is that it's a hobby chain. Stihl Lo-pro Micro chisel in 1.1 or 1.3 depending upon your bar width is what you want. I run it in 1.1mm on four of my saws by choice. It's fast, easy to maintain and economical. There's tons of chains without bumper tie straps for your saw, did you think all the climbing boys use Nanny state chain in their MS200ts?
  16. A saw designed to run 3/8 Picco won't have the power to handle .325 or 3/8. Especially if you want to up the sprocket too There are things like the MS260 which is sold with either but smaller kerf is quicker so I don't understand what you're hoping to achieve? What saw is it?
  17. Only Honda make a 4-stroke engined strimmer AFAIK.
  18. And if he wants a price to install only, DAY RATE ONLY! Because you know he'll mess up and get the wrong stuff, keeping you waiting. He can't have his cake and eat it. A quote means the contractor assumes some risk, and adds profit for doing so. If he can't comprehend it when you put it in these simple terms, walk away.
  19. For much more effective clamping force use scaffold pole and some angle iron as the clamp.
  20. Only a muppet carries on using a machine without investigating the cause, much less lends it out with a casual 'oh, watch out by the way, it overheats'.... Radiator is the usual suspect. If you're going to do it do it properly and take both rads off the mounts and blow through from each side on both. With them out of the way you will also have plenty of room to check the fan belt tension.
  21. A 2-mix FS-70 is £70 less than a 4-mix FS90, but the same power. The FS-70 engine is great, but it's a flexi driveshaft. I'd be tempted by the Echo TCD posted- £30 more but a solid driveshaft. Quite a bit heavier, but also quite a bit better vibration figures. Throw in a 2-year commercial warranty and that looks very attractive. OP, where are you located?
  22. FS460 is a 2-mix engine. Low speed power is where it's at with a nice big machine like that, and power in reserve for heavy stuff. Many on this thread (and I think the OP) are confusing Stihl 4-mix technology (valves on a 2-stroke, which are crap) with a true 4-stroke engine as used in Honda strimmers.
  23. If you want power and half the vibration of normal strimmers, you need to look at either the Stihl FS310 + range or Husky 545 (I think). These have full length anti vibration thingys.
