  1. I asked about this a while ago. I think it was available for about forty quid as a Google ebook. Although the general consensus was that most of its content is available in the now online arb journals, and the better book was it's counterpart fungal strategies of wood decay in trees. Good luck!
  2. Not good to have kids playing round lots of things. Bleach, knives, stairs, full baths, nuts, roads, cat and dog poo, rusty nails, greenhouses etc. Children have a remarkable ability to learn what not to eat or do!
  3. I'm thoroughly confused, maybe the chat room is somewhere I best stay away from!
  4. If it even is Amanita phalloides, as far as I know it is mycorhizzal. So it will be present on tree roots, most often oak but others too. If it is present feeding solely on the woodchip, the only option I see is to remove all the chip and add fresh, but it's not guaranteed to work. Why does the client want it gone? The worry classic worry is kids or animals, which can be educated or taught to leave them. Or remove the mushrooms once or twice a year as they appear...
  5. How about Haikus? The glorious gold. The soft rustle of many. The start of autumn.

    Huh?! What we're they thinking...
  7. Hi all, may be after another bowl. Something a little different this time, a wool dispenser for knitting/crochet. Similar to the image below, just a simple bowl with steep sides, maybe a slight narrowing at the top. Around 7-9inches diameter, and 4-6inches tall. Then a 3 or 4mm ish 'J' cut down about half way, with a 10-15mm hole at the end of its tail, obviously with no catchy bits, for the wool to feed through. I'm not too fussed about what wood, but darker colours are preferred. If any one can give me an idea of cost, and what it could look like (maybe you've got a bowl lying around which would just need the J cut out?) please post here or PM me. Cheers!
  8. Prunus pissardii or spinosa, or beech?
  9. I'll give it a go then... "Your kaleidoscope smells a funny colour", an odd thought for an odd situation. As he hung from rope alone in the cellar - auto erotic asphyxiation...
  10. A final written warning? So they must have had other verbal or written warnings? I maintain if they genuinely felt the tree was out of their abilities then they were right to refuse it. In which case I would not sign the warning, and state in writting that I do not accept it. I can think of several occasions where the climber I was with either didn't feel able, or came down from a tree as 'too dodgy' for them, so I did it. I was never the greatest climber ever, but very able, and it was done without any hard feelings to the other climbers. Going off the handle at someone and doing it to prove a point doesn't sound like the actions of a good leader...
  11. Great stuff! TVI is on a roll. Here's one, ...your kaleidoscope smells a funny colour...
  12. I give my quote with my terms and conditions, including payment terms. If they accept then I expect payment within those timescales, and hassle them promptly if no payment. I've had some point out after the quote is given that I must agree to their payment terms. In which case I might revise the quote. Never really had any trouble so far...
  13. I can see little more than a black shape?...
  14. More likely to be horse chestnut bleeding canker I reckon. Just as many trees, particularly street trees, have it as not around north Essex... http://www.forestry.gov.uk/fr/infd-6kybgvURL]
  15. What a dude! What moves will he be pulling off in ten years time?!
  16. I don't know how big the company is, but two serious accidents in one year is a worrisome statistic...
  17. For what it's worth the average day rate in the south east for 5837 or safety surveys seems to range from around £300-400
  18. Too right. And as also said, there will be more to this than written here. We don't know what role you played, if any, in this situation. If I'd been in such a situation while employed I would have refuse any 'warnings' issued against me, in writing if necessary.
  19. Great idea, I'll be interested to see how this idea pans out...
  20. How long is a piece string type question. I charge a day/half day rate including the report write-up. The number of trees doesn't work for me, can vary too much depending on level of detail required and type of report needed.
