Sounds like the ms261 clutch issue, stihl keep sending em' out! Wonder what would happen in a HSE visit, and your kickback protection was found to have melted. If the part fails when you need it most, it will cost you your life! 36" bar vs. Head/torso? -

Yes, I have a small forestry company in Normandy, but recently I have moved towards climbing as work in the forests here is getting thin on the ground. Being young ish (29) i hope that im not too old to make it happen.
what is you goal within the industry? are you the driven type that whants her own empire? or happy to be a gun for hire? I think i fall between the two!

Stay away from poundland, zombies will gather here! I would go to the nearest air base and spend the appocolypse learning to fly a helicopter gunship, as well as re arming/ refueling as needed. then on the second week, bovington tank museum, try out all my favourites from when i was a boy. when thats over with and all the tanks are on their sides or on fire, its off to Hereford, to find the SAS base, there i will amuse myself in the killing house, and play with all the latest sniper rifles and landrovers with miniguns on them. Look for hot zombies and invent some kind of ball gag so it stays playfull, and they dont bite me...................................... I cant belive i turn 30 next week, this was my zombie plan from 1999, and i think it needs tweeking?

I was cutting beech in a local forest here in Normandy, and found loads of shrapnell and bullets in the timber, it was the site of a large armoured battle, and hidden ammo dump for the atlantic wall. Its odd seeing the old craters with post 1944 trees in them and everything around them 200 years plus. Anyway, blame farmers they like putting nails and wire on everything!

460 for Hardwood felling, is my wepon of choice! If you spend your time cutting softwoods under 18" dbh, then it would be overkill. I love stihl but husky 550/60 is preferable in snedding situations like spruce and fir when speed is key.

i was on boncoin earlier, (french ebay) and seen a lazer to attatch to a stihl ms261. I thought it was a wind up at first, but looks to be made by stihl. What is the world coming to?

Can anyone tell me the cost of a logosol m7 mill, less saw, bar, chain etc. I was thinking about an alaskan mill, but after seeing logosol on youtube i think it looks a lot more like the sort of tool im after.

I have the stien, and think its a very nice, well made piece of kit. I was going to get the Petzl, but when i seen one close up didnt fall over it, but cant put my finger on why? I use mine with the darkened perspex google/visor thing and love it for that "Topgun" look. Also the tree cant look into your eyes when your about to make the cut. -

Not worth the cost of a processor imo. Chainsaw and axe/ splitter on the big stuff, and logging bench ( like the hakki pilke eagle) on the sub 6" stuff. or a bilke? Here in France, woodland owners sell the kind of stuff you have there, thats left on the forest floor after harvesting. anything over 7cm diameter is up for grabs, less than this is left to rot and improve the soil. You go armed with chainsaw and axe, cut into 1m lengths and stack in piles 1m high. you are then charged by the m3, last time i did it it was 17 euros a meter. No out lay for the owner, no hard work for the owner, money for the owner for 0 effort! just an idea. Like the pick your own idea, and if anything is left that is " filth " then burn it or chip it, or use yourself. -
Sounds like an interesting job, more forestry than arb, if that makes sense. I would get those trees on the ground asap, so your machinery isnt sat arround doing nothing. I hate having men sat in the cab waiting for a cutter to drop a tree. Plan your extraction routes carefully, plan for break downs and watch out for golf balls. I know that it sounds like common sense and I'm sure that you dont need me to tell you this, but i have seen some really un co-ordinated sites and the managers didn't plan. Remember, Piss Poor Planning Prevents Perfect Proformance, and Slow is smooth and smooth is fast! Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback guys, i got sent some photos after posting and it looks like its had a hard life, and then lost a fight with a sawmill, and the guy wanted about £420- 550 euros for it. which i felt a bit steep for one in rough condition. I think it looks like the perfect model for me so if anyone wants to sell me one in good nick for a reasonable price then please pm me.

Hi Chaps, Have seen a stihl 064 advertised and not having any experience of this model would like to know if anyone has used one and any pro's and cons. availibility of parts and an idea of what you would pay for one in good working condition, and also for a rough one that needs some work ( so i have an idea if i go to look at it) It should tick all my boxes otherwise, so thanks in advance for any help.

They still do the MS440 here in france, its about 1000 euros and comes with a 22" bar as std.- they put odd bar sizes on here just to confuse!- One of the best saws ever imo.

Hi Jennie, glad to see you are working towards working in Arb'. I once went out with a girl that was a very gifted climber, and lopper, but she fell foul of "the lads" banter, and gave it up. Anyway, i hope you dont get the same stick, and if you do shrug it off, because there are far few girls doing this IMO. Good luck, and please excuse the forward nature of my message. Adam.
