  1. When I sat down to watch a program about a woodsman restoring an unmanaged woodland in south wales tonight, i assumed it may be somebody with 5, 10, 15 maybe 20-30 years experience, even fresh from college with a year or 2 of training or experience under their belt. Not another Londoner, escaping the rat race and showing us all how easy the good life is and how all this under achieving woodland can be tamed in just a year, and turn a profit. And anyone that works the woods is some folk singing hick or oldboy that likes his cider.
  2. I don't understand why so many things cost so much. The Alstor 8x8 springs to mind £30k+ and why are chippers so expensive? could buy a new truck for the cost of a new chipper!
  3. Damn it! I was going to try that, if it ever arrives! Now you have beaten me to it and I have one less thing to impress you all with!!! Seriously, if you ever think of moving to France to live the good life, think hard about your postal needs. 3rd world countries do better!
  4. Didn't they film shameless there?
  5. £14,000+ vat. according to this months forestry journal. bargain!
  6. Buffalo special 6, when its really cold. no need for layers with that! Found some nice stretchy t-shirts with mesh arm-pits in decathlon, and a stretchy soft-shell, tend to go for red if its a high profile job and want to be seen. otherwise army surplus norge shirts.
  7. Agree with all the above, a good clear landing with trees skidded in tree length, a crane with a good reach, so as you can stack the varying sized timber in decks, ie; 1st & 2nd lengths, pulp and fencing material, or forward out if cut at stump, but this would be better if clearfelling, or if brash mat is needed on soft / wet ground.
  8. Just read other thread, should have gnawed through the rope!
  9. Did a similar thing with a VT on the hitch climber, put an extension between me and hitch to gain some advantage, couldn't lanyard to anything and pondered gnawing through my rope!
  10. Fell it, sned it, extract to road side, transport home/yard, peel it, point it, dip it, dry it, store it,advertise it, wait for phone to ring, starve to death, have coffin made from it. FORGET IT!
  11. You'll go blind, dirty boy!
  12. 426M from A84 Near Villedieu les poeles. Would love the work to justify any chipper! sounds like your have your setup running sweet!
  13. Glad you like it, you will never regret getting the 460 tree killer o'matic! a standard muffler has always been fine for me, you could always port it after, you will notice the difference then, feel the benefit an my old grandad would say about wearing a coat indoors!
  14. Impressed! If you find yourself in southern manche, pop in for a cuppa, and if working this way and in need of a tip site for your chip, i would be happy to accommodate! much mulch needed in the garden!
  15. It was noted by the eminent Charles Darwin that Humans have evolved from Apes. It was noted that the Human thumb is appose-able and thus is able to grip in a manner, and indeed manipulate objects in a way that has caused the human race to evolve rapidly into the "masters" of the Earth. Why then do all the expensive, top quality kid palmed gloves have so little protection on the tip of the thumb. How many pairs of perfectly decent chainsaw gloves have I binned because of this. What dumb ape of a person can manufacture such rubbish! I may be Cornish and as such not at the top of the evolutionary ladder, somewhere above Scousers and below Cockney's, but other than abnormally large wedding veg and a low forehead we Cornish deserve gloves that work! Thank you for your time Gents, feel a little better!
  16. It seems they are telling me something, it is raining like i have never seen, the valley bellow us is steadily flooding. The worms are all going up hill! Its like they knew.............
  17. Walking the dog these last few days I have noticed the little tarmac road i live along is covered in worms, each morning there are new ones and hundreds of squished ones, anyone know why? Perhaps they are just odd French worms!
  18. Wouldn't mind a slice of that action! Hows the chipper working out?
  19. The general public in a 200 yard radius wont be safe either, I will lanyard in like a Japanese sniper!
  20. What were you searching for when you found this? works for me tho, save it for later:lol:
  21. I got the 4 ball one, 4 rounds rapid fire!!!!!!!!!!!! I will try different projectiles once in the tree, pine cones may be good?
  22. Welcome to the forum, and well done for thinking of asking for advice. There will be many that will tell you that the industry is full and another shark in the tank is not wanted/ needed. If you start by obtaining your saw tickets to begin with, you will be of much more use to your customers, and any climbers you assist. I think that your grounds maint' work would possibly benefit from this, and by the time you look to take your climbing tickets you should have a good level of saw experience to assist you. Make contact with as many local arb businesses as you can, and some may offer you some work clearing up/ groundie work. Its a lot of unknowns but unless you can afford to ticket up straight off the bat, i feel this is how i would approach the subject.
  23. I get a lot of calls for over grown garden clearance, from those that have let their garden and land go, while their property is for sale, often 2-5 years of willow and scrub, and ask if i would do it in return for the firewood from it. The first one i thought was a chance, but have had several others, and the odd thing is they seem to get someone desperate enough off angloinfo to do it on those terms. desperate times for many methinks, and i dont see an end in sight for them.
  24. just ordered a Hyperdog, cant wait!
  25. Same here Ty, lots of brits, no money, trying to sell up and move back to Blighty.
