  1. Apparently husky tapes are poor internally, they are all plastic and break with too much work. I was told that by a dealer, so not my own ex. Sam, uses a Stihl 15m
  2. Just sent you a PM. Should be able to give you an insiders look :001_smile:
  3. Hi guys, Was actually thinking about this today as I learnt my cousin lives about 5 minutes away in Chiswick (usefull for once). I was wondering if a meal/BBQ/or something. If this has already been suggested and I've missed it sorry boys But other wise do people like the idea of some bait and beer after a hard day of tree porn? Sam
  4. They are better on the planet than using fair liquid
  5. Harsh way to talk about the wife? Nothing constructive to add, marigolds?

  8. Good post mate, lots there to be thinking about
  9. I get no enjoyment out of killing anything. I have enjoy hunting things. And this is where you must distinguish between sport hunting/shooting and killing. I like the challenge of out witting deer. So I stalk wild deer. I shoot one when it fits in with a management plan and because I like eating them. I take... satisfaction, if that is the word, at making a clean kill with minimal suffering to the beast. I love deer though. I eat, sleep, breath and talk deer. I hunt them with a camera, I walk miles with a rifle, find a herd, and don't take a shot. I spend hours looking at them. I have lost thousands of pounds doing this, and the best part of 12 years living deer, and probably know more about deer than most people who wouldn't dream of killing one because it is "cruel". In the hard winters I think of my deer. I put feed down for them so they are not hungry. How many Bill Oddie types do this? It is something only a hunter can understand I fear.
  10. Hi John, I use a logging tape. Depending on the tree I either cut as I sned, or make "marker" cuts and then cut later. The logging tape is very handy, it is attached to your belt jobbie and then you stick the end into the butt and it measures as you sned/walk, so it makes the whole process very easy
  11. Well done that lad. Getting suspended for that is bull poo.
  12. Professional Foresters don't laugh... they just grunt in a different tone.
  13. Good stuff, it must be nice to be so close to the truck! If you have got the kit, you might as well use it
  14. Hi all, Anyone got any recommendations for a good gilet for forestry/arb work? I use a Berghaus Walking one at the moment, and its not bad, but could be better. I burnt through it with a techno pruner exhaust earlier in the year And could do with a new one. I like Gilets for working in, especially in summer, but apart from climbers ones they doesn't seem to be anything suitable. So I would like it to be Tough. A good fit (not too tight so as not to move). Have as many pockets as physically possible, or a good few anyway. Preferably be bright coloured so its better in the woods Cheers
  15. Why the huge bar about 2/3 of the way through the video? Looks like a fun day
  16. Thanks guys. That looks a lot of fuss! I'll maybe looking at a small car and then upgrading to a 'fender Cheers lads

  18. Having just googled it thinking it was some sort of RTV... I am disappointed. Also, HOW MUCH?! You don't even get four wheels. Buy them some shoes.
  19. Hi, Has anyone got experience of getting insurance on a road quad?Im thinking of buying an old Honda Foreman TRX 400 and having tat rather than a first car if its cheaper to insure. Has anyone done this? Any idea on price and company? Cheers
  20. I really really want one! Much better than those ATV trailers you see around the place. Sam
  21. Thanks guys, all very interesting Big J (Nearly put that down as BJ... then thought better! ) That is a hell of a rig. I would love something like that for use in small thinnings, have you got any more specs/pictures mate? Cheers
  22. Hi, I've been thinking recently of doing some woodland work but not for money. I don't know if this is treading on people's toes though. I personally can't see a problem with it, but I wouldn't want to be cutting people out of work. I will explain now that I am half way through a ND in forestry, and will work for "free" because I don't feel people will pay for my services. If I can charge, then I can't afford not too! I thought I would go and approach local farmers and say that I will do any work needed to their small copses/woods/large hedges for free if I can keep the products. Would you take umbrage? Sam
