  2. awsome thanks guys! scrimping and saving is second nature to me but when you work 6 days a week and still don't have enough its time to get more qualified and better paid! My father always used to say if you need more money work harder.... then my nan said don't work harder work smarter! less days for more money that way you get to see your family! Thanks for all the help its very much appriciated

  11. claim some compo from the company! tell them your to scared to touch another plug again and its had a serious effect on your day to day life! Im only messing round sounds like you had a lucky escape there, in all seriousness its worth letting trading standards know as it might not be the first time this company has sold sketchy goods and you could save someones life regardless of financial outcome I would say go put the kettle on and relax but with your recent track record with electrics it might be better to convince someone else to!
  12. As a rule if the depth guage is to low your chain will be trying to cut out a large chunk of wood every time it comes into contact with the timber, which if you have a large bar on a small saw will then result in low power due to the drag created by the extra teeth trying to cut out large chunks, similarly if your depth guage is to high the cuting tooth will not come into contact with the timber which means there will be minimal or no cutting going on at all! you want a nice sharp tooth cutting thin shavings off every time it comes into contact with the wood (which @20 meters per second happens pretty quick!) and every tooth both left and right sides of the chain to be the same as the next. If you post some photos of the cutters or the saw dust then people will have more of an idea of which direction to help you in. What saw are you using and what size bar&chain? The other option if catching and dulling your chain quite often is the oregan powersharp have a look on f.r.jones banner on the right or on youtube for more info
  13. cash, cash and a bit more cash, if the money is in your hands when you give them the chipper then there is no arguments either way. The only thing i would say is be carefull where you show them the chipper incase they come back when your not there and help themselves to all your tools and leave you the chipper! meet them on a job with it so they can see it working ect.... and you dont get robbed!
  14. I have had a vitara for the last few years in if you can afford to run that you can afford to run a discovery1 7 seats of 5 seats and a big boot, my advise would be buy a solid landrover for 2k and spend 4k modding it for off road
  15. I know they all look scary and like they they come from friday 13th but they are all a surprisingly nice and knowledgable bunch of folks:thumbup1: Just never judge a book by its cover! If you don't know then here is the best place to ask, just rember the first question should be is it safe if not then walk away and ask questions till it is! Good luck!
  16. scary how some people will use terms like " tree killing monsters!" with such ease when they clearly have no knowledge on the subject they are comenting on!
  17. learn as much as you can about trees! what they do, why they do it and when they do it. then learn the climbers job, how and why they do what they do so you can anticipate their next move and be ready with whatever they need. brush up on engine and basic mechanics so you can help to fix whatever breaks... which it will! wash every day before you turn up! no one likes smelly people! good luck dude! enjoy one of the best jobs in the world:thumbup:
  18. Just incase its of any use too anyone? Fordson 4 x 4 on eBay (end time 15-Nov-10 15:32:53 GMT)
  19. Didnt they make match sticks out of poplar?
  20. yeah, and there is VERY VERY little about, not for the theory or for the ticket side of things. Its an expensive risk for employers to take someone on from scratch and put them through the tickets that they need to be allowed to work legally, but government says you have to have them to work but arnt willing to help people to get them!
  21. have a look @ proclimber carmarthen, pencoed college or college sir gar all of which will be able to offer you the climbing courses you need failing tha i can pass on a local ish assesors number and he will be able to help. think cs38 & 39 is around the £700 mark with all of them think the colleges may be cheaper but there might be a bit of a wait. Anything i can help with just send me a pm
  22. when we start any job it starts with the boss saying " right who wants to do what?" to which most of us reply "don't mind ". sometimes the climbers come down and help the groundies and sometimes the groundies work twice as hard as the climbers just to get the job done. If the boss isnt climbing then he is on the floor doing what ever needs doing even if its raking and shoveling. All our pay is very similar P/H i think it keeps the team feeling and no one job is more important than any other so we are all happy to do whatever needs to be done!
