  3. the feed out from the switch relays just get added to the run position?
  4. unfortunatly not its an all in one box of tricks speed sensor, digital display, oil pressure sensor and a few other sensors. I can get rid of the wiring for the sensors as its not imperitave that its there. i just need to have the switches working. I can get the glow plugs and the starter working. its just how to wire in the switches thats got me confused the engine bit is fine i just dont know where to put the switches to on the ignition
  5. hey guys Turned up to work this morning to the smell of cooked electrics:thumbdown: after speaking to my boss the chipper had blown a 30 amp fuse twice yesterday, after a bit of investagation it turned out that the ecu has melted and schisleing want £600 for a new one so my suggestion was to just wire in a normal ignition barrel which is more like a tenner! Im going to have to do it and my electrical experience is ok but limited ( I own a 200tdi discovery ) My question is is which position do i connect the switches ( stop bar/ feed/reverse) feed to? would it be position 3 on a 4 position switch or do i need a swich with more positions? Position 1 off Position 2 on Position 3 heat/run Position 4 start Like i said ANY help would be great as im on a steep learning curve here Thanks all in advance:thumbup1:

    Td5 problem

collapsed cat so its not breathing properly? I dont know if you can legally de cat a td5 but it helped my disco loads and bumped up my mpg/bhp
  8. get an old 2oo tdi and get down your local chippy
  9. MAN CAT A1 8x8 all terrain cargo truck with crane Atlas // Ex Military vehicles for sale MAN. MOD Trucks now this is an arb truck! good site to keep an eye on, that and truck trader:thumbup1:
  10. any good? Used VOLVO FL12 Ex-MoD 6x6 Tipper Dump Truck Diesel Trucks | Truck Trader UK
  11. ...everything you own smells of two stroke or diesel!
  12. just been talking to a friend of mine and he is running 95% bio and just added 5% unleaded to thin it out a bit and he was using it right through all the ice. If your car/truck is pre 97 you can take the cat off and raise your bhp and mpg
  13. When i did mine i would say its hard to fail. call your local test center explain what you do and what you need it for and ask witch card you need and they will do all the hard work. There is a list of localtest centers on their web site. good luck!
  14. take a gallon of fresh diesel to pre fill the filter with before you put it on
  15. I run my disco on it,spare fuel filters are a must as it will bring all the nasty old stuff through. if the engine is high milage then mix it 50/50 to stop the injectors getting full of crud for the first few k. In winter keep drev in to a minimum of 30% and in the summer you can run up to 100% bio. check if you have a sedimentor and keep it clean as no doubt you will end up with some kind of pond like in it. bosh fuel pumps are normally fine where as lucas pump seals can rot after a few k. If you want to run veg oil & drev make sure the veg oil dosent have E900 its an anti foaming agent and will form a milky skum. mix before it goes in the tank or it will setle into layers. any questions feel free to ask
  16. Are thy wellers? and did you change back to the stock wheels or is the photo with the trailer newer than the rest?
  17. how are you supposed to deal with council tax then?

  20. minni digger?
  21. my experience exactly! what mt's have you got? are they insa? or general grabber? i've got at's at the moment and was looking at getting a set of mt's. I was just looking at the pick of your defender on the arb truck thred very nice. reason im asking is what kind of milage do you get out of them towing on road?
  22. oh and with diesel costing the earth at the moment you can run the 200 & 300 on a mix of 50% diesel & 50% veg no problems if its colder put a bit more diesel in and if its mid summer you can get away with 70% veg just mix it before you put it in the tank.
  23. Personally i would go with the 200tdi they are less refined than the 300tdi but they pull a tractor and they are easy enough to get your hands on fairly cheap leaving you money in the piggy bank to to sort out any little niggles.if you want to put a snorkel and breather kit on and drive through water there is very little in the way of electrics to kill and fault finding is a very basic process which when towing and using off road is a good thing only things to watch ou for is rot on the sills inner wings and boot floor and the gear box can be like a bowl of soup but you can get a recon fitted round me for 250 all in. The 300 tdi is a good work horse and much more refined, quiter, leather seats, leccy windows, cup holders and all that jazz, but if you want to get them to pull as well as the 200 then you need to de cat it and blank off the egr valve both jobs can be done for about 20 quid each if u do it yourself or take it to a garage and they will do both for under £100. same as the 200watch out for rot on the early ones in the same places. The Td5 is great when its going but is a case of service service service! or they will go on you and they are not as easy to fix with all the electrics its a case of a diagnostics machine to find some faults/gremlins, but admitidley i have never owned one so its all from others i know that have them. hope tha helps
  24. cracker is totally right but the landcrusiers are huge and not as easy to work on but with a 4.2 diesel will pull anything!
  25. I have to agree with butler, disco comercial all the way! yes defenders are geared slightly lower but if your only pulling horses you will find the discovery more than uptothe job. they are easy to mod, parts are cheap and easy to fix yourself and they have heaters, they are comfy and you can carry five people and a bootload of kit. test drive one! you wont be dissapointed
