  1. Trade for 5 years first then try
  2. Maybe these would use a crane and could do the job in a day.
  3. Like herts wood we go all over the country working for commercial clients but I won't drive more than spitting distance from my house to price a job unless I know I'm going to get it Unfortunately arb and landscaping is hardly specialist and when you travel miles for a new client its highly likely there's half a dozen other contractors who have been asked more locally who can do the more job far more cheap and efficiently. Unless you offer something really niche like tree whispering.

    After Arb

I've decided that at 35 unless the company is bigger and more commercially focused and AAAC with a better staff structure I'm going to buy a harvester and spend my days in the forest where I have no phone signal and don't have to talk to members of the public.
  5. I get a feeling yield class is to do with volume or a overall stand of timber but I'm sure somewhere in the blue book or yield class tables there is something which will convert dbh into something or other. I would go upstairs and look but there's this thing about naked survival on discovery and it seems far more I treating
  6. Could you use Yield class tables I think thats what I can remember from my forest mensuration at forestry school
  7. Clearly there wasn't much budget for this document
  8. Transits !!!!! Cheap, anyone can drive them can carry 2 tonne in the back, if you know where plod hangs out and you can easily lift scrap into the back
  9. What machine was it
  10. My Mistake mine is a Husky 137 I think i paid like 120£ for it about 5-6 years ago and its still going strong, its never needed anything changing like bearings etc, its ok for whizzing up awkward forks for the chipper and got used alot last week for cutting little willow regen which any saw bigger would just be over kill. I've used the little stihls ansd would say there a bit more nippy but who cares if its a throwaway item Mine also gets used a distraction saw for when the neighbours or rellies come asking to borrow a saw and i give them this one knowing its prob going to be run on rubbish 2stroke and engine oil James x
  11. Yes It's my throw away and lending out saw Stays by chipper as if it gets nicked I won't cry
  12. Sorry don't people have gnomes in your area? Actually one of my clients has britains first ever gnome imported Into Britain and which was said to start the craze of gnomes back in 1897 apparently it's worth a million quid! I don't run around after middle management they run around after me.
  13. Just had new axel on tw190 after the bearing blew on the motor way Not had bill yet
  14. Sorry was only trying to further arouse your intrest
  15. This is all to often the case I often wonder about writing contracts but and clauses but don't know how to do this and have a hatred for solicitors.
  16. I pay staff and subbies and end of week without fail. I pay bugger firms within fortnight I get paid from the likes of Balfour Beatty or railways 3-4 months and much hassle later. Means you need a big buffer in the bank and not touch it. It sucks but commercial is far better and more grown up and better paying than gnome dodging in domestic. If you like to blow your turnover each week on beer and birds you prob best stick to topping connies. If you want to progress your business and buy kit and invest in your staff then hang in there soldier, commercials the way to go
  17. Welcome to commercial work I'm still owed for 4 months ago, just make sure the company is solvent. Keep plenty in the bank

Is this from watching the blackout Just don't tell your neighbors!
  19. Willow Burn up
  20. That sounds very technical best I bring you some more logs up
  21. How bigs your winch I assume 10+
  22. I've been through these checks and why it's great someone's cracking down on the naughty boys it disgusts me the was the officers talk to you and can see why there is contempt for the police. Especially traffic officers who seem to like to want to exert there dominanece over you. I'm a very placid person but if someone who was not plod used such words to me they'd soon get a boff on the nose. I once got in a row with a traffic officer who said I needed a trailer licence for my tw150 and a taco. When I said with confidence that because of the plated weight and distances and goods carried etc I didt they got shirty with me until a vosa man corrected him.
  23. I went to a workshop day, although I'm not going to go for AAC strait away it's a great day just to learn more and you also learn about where the holes are in your company H&S and paper work systems. especially if your aiming for the higher end work. We do a lot of commercial and paper work is essential its an ass but that's just life unfortunately. As for being a arb association member if you love your industry then you should support the group who support and represent you. Just my opinion The mags good too
  24. I thought hailo was industry standard. Mine are 4 years old now and have been abused and knocked around and need replacing but do everything needed, have earnt there keep. Mine are the medium and I don't think you would want bigger for any reason James x
