  2. Hi Colietti, You are probably correct, but why not submit an application and be sure? Details from here: http://planningguidance.planningportal.gov.uk/blog/guidance/tree-preservation-orders/ When should the area category be used? The area category is one way of protecting individual trees dispersed over an area. Authorities may either protect all trees within an area defined on the Order’s map or only those species which it is expedient to protect in the interests of amenity. The area category is intended for short-term protection in an emergency and may not be capable of providing appropriate long-term protection. The Order will protect only those trees standing at the time it was made, so it may over time become difficult to be certain which trees are protected. Authorities are advised to only use this category as a temporary measure until they can fully assess and reclassify the trees in the area. In addition, authorities are encouraged to resurvey existing Orders which include the area category. Paragraph: 029 Reference ID: 36-029-20140306 Revision date: 06 03 2014
  3. Amey, but not Sheffield 22 to 30k depending on the candidate experience etc.
  4. Great opportunity for someone taking the next step into tree management. Varied role managing the highway trees for Birmingham City Council. http://www.amey.co.uk/talent-link/external/job/3803
  5. Pulled the odd sofa and a TV out of trees next to tower blocks. Nappies too
  6. How about putting him through some safety training? IOSH managing safely or CITB Site Supervisor SSSTS. Get them on a level2/4 arb course? All good confidence boosting and knowledge. Nick
  7. We have started to include this in normal site inspections. A normal audit will be being undertaken when a supervisor will casually inform the ground crew that the climber has been injured and needs rescue. While their still processing that he'll pull out a stopwatch and tell the climber to play dead or injured. All very positive so far with some really great teamwork and rescues.

  9. Light sand, few coats of oil, job done. Ikea's own oil is quite good, I have the same worktops and have brought them back from being like this a couple of times
  10. Something similar if not the same https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=678876322171060
  11. A suitable poison on the suckering and into stem of tree a couple of weeks before felling will probably help. we have started ecoplugging Polar, Willow and Robinia for this reason
  12. Try BASC, they are heavily involved ans should give you all the info you need
  13. Thou shalt not Lop or Top
  14. Hi Ben, We are using a rubber-aggregate bound surface in these locations. Its highly pourous and does not split or crack. After looking for a solution for highway trees we think this a great option. Their website is at KBI UK | Smarter Materials for Next Generation Infrastructure give them a call and they will advise, say that Nick from Amey in Birmingham pointed yoiu in their direction. A bit of root pruning may not be a bad thing either Nick
  15. Hi All, Not sure if its been picked up here but I got pointed toward this the other day. New US tv show on tree care firms around Boston and not showing the industry in the best light, but it does entertain. Big Bad Wood | National Geographic Channel Some of the videos are highly amusing/worrying Enjoy Nick
  16. The main thing here is is it a shrinkable soil? And id the tree being removed for soil shrinkage related subsidence? And as has been advised a structural engineer would be the best person to ask. If the property is going to move it will move regardless of how the removal is staged.
  17. If I were to tirf my old kitbag out on thie livingroom floor there'd be less kit but more sawdust and filthy oily crap Swiftly leading to a bollocking, banishment and loss of privilages
  18. The best thing the guy with the squished garage can do is to contact his insurer and take their advice. The best thing you can do if you undertake any works is make sure he's aware he's paying you regardless and to document and photograph everything. I deal with quite a few of these cases and as we have evidence of reasonable actions on our part as the tree owner with survey and work records etc many claims do fail as the failure was nor reasonably foreseeable.
  19. :001_rolleyes:It's an option Flying blind here dude:lol:
  20. Hi, Aim for whatever reduction you can get away with. Also lifting to let light in below canopy which will likley be more effective than any reduction. If there is property damage and depending upon thr proximity of the houses sound out the TO on replacememt and a stratergy for this as at this size they are obviously mature and they will most likley have a limited safe life expectancy while retaining amenity. Do a TEMPO assessment and aim for what is needed as long as tree retention is given weighted serious consideration mnay thing can be achieved. HTH Nick
  21. Prune it neatly near the cut and let the tree deal with it. A young tree like this in the woodland area its in should overcome any likley decay. Cut the root out and beat the fencer over the head with it
  22. Hi, As far as I know there is no official legislation. National Grid would like you to to be several meters away from any gas line, and on top of drainage is obviously best avoided. If you can avoid do - if you have the choice and space. If not; cat, dig safely and plant if you can get a large enough hole. Most of the trees on the highway in towns and cities are in the footway or on verges sharing its root space with all the services there are, with very little problem. The main reson to move the trees for me would be to reduce the likelihood of men with diggers and the like affecting the trees in the future. HTH Nick
  23. Yes And the ISA, both mainly for access to journals and papers, none of which I have time to read
  24. Hi, I've been asked by a friend if I knew of anyone in the area who could do this as they have been let down by someone. If you could help please contact them at CONTACT It is for Swaton Vintage Day in Lincolnshire near Sleaford/Bourne Many Thanks Nick
