  1. Have heard this about Wilsons before. Speak to Jim at Caledonian Forestry about the Kesla cranes he supplies
  2. Decent for India standards or Uk standards. A lad who ran a shoot I was in last year bought one - he was a bit miffed when I pointed out the Bf Goodrich all terrains it had on where worth more than the car!!!
  3. So if we were to summarise: Land Rovers are uncomfortable, cramped, uneconomical and unreliable Nissan Navaras eat clutches Ford Rangers also like to eat clutches and the dealer support is rubbish Toyota Hi luxes (or should that be Hi Luxi?) have poor towing capacity and if you work them hard the chassis snap So does anybody build a good four wheel drive, ie economical, powerful, reliable, reasonable parts prices, good towing ability, comfortable, etc?
  4. The case the kit is in looks either like a Peli or a Storm case in which the majority of the cost is in the case itself. Peli cases are crush proof, dust proof, water tight, will float, were used on the Camel Trophy, etc etc so they are not cheap.
  5. For tea last Saturday we had wild (wild..it was livid when I shot it!) Northumbrian duck breast with a blackberry sauce (blackberries picked from the hedgerow of course) accompanied by roast potatoes and cauliflower, both of which came from my allotment. And the wife still had to put brown blumin' sauce on it!
  6. Don't get me wrong, I've been driving Land Rovers for 22 years so know what they can be like. I know they can have their problems - I've been warned by a competent mechanic who has had five Discovery TD5s to watch out for their usual faults - oil down the wiring harness, front hubs, leaks etc. I went to view a Mitsubishi L200 single cab last week and it must have been the first time I've looked under a four wheel drive and its been dry,no oil anywhere! But the cab felt small, even compared to a Defender and had naff all storage space. I suppose after 22 years my heart belongs to Land Rover.
  7. Anybody got any worthwhile views on a Discovery TD5, 2001 -2004 vintage as I am thinking of buying a commercial type? My mate who used to do all the servicing and repairs on my Defender swears blind they are a pile of rubbish - but he has never owned or driven one! I would use it for carrying tools, carrying bagged logs and cut rings, as well as using it as my everyday car for going to my other "employed" work, going on hols and shooting. The ability to tow a decent load on a trailer would be useful as well.
  8. Our local NFU said they would not cover a firewood business with regards to liability and processor insurance and my friend who has all sorts of insurance with them saved over £2000 on his annual liability policy by moving to Arthur Marsh and has now just got a renewal quote in for the family Discovery at £1100 - T reg TDI probably only worth £3000 max! Needless to say he is looking to change that now as well!!!
  9. I was just going to pose a similar question as I am due to take delivery of a firewood processor that will be stored at my friends premises. Trust have quoted £530 for the processor and log deck whilst the local NFU office said they would not cover firewood businesses at all.
  10. Sorry to hear your sad news John. I don't have a dog of my own but got really attched to a friends collie that had to be put down earlier this year. It sounds like your obviously a dog person so do get another, not to replace Sky but to be a new friend who will repay the time and effort you put in when it is a pup by being at your side to make you smile and feed good about life when it is older (if that makes sense!?)
  11. Could be useful for you Unimog owners out there UNIMOG TRAILER on eBay (end time 08-Oct-10 20:42:54 BST)
  12. Could be a useful motor for someone Iveco Daily Tipper | Tipper vans Infact,as the name implies, the site is full of tippers!!!
  13. Great pics, nice to see 4x4s being used for what they were built for:thumbup:
  14. Great news!!! Just goes to show, if you don't enter, you can't win!
  15. The nets of finished product we saw had an awful lot of twigs in along with short, two inch diameter material. Even though the nets were large I do not think you would get much money for them and as someone has already stated, it did not look pretty enough for those that like to see a log stack outside the house and the logs on the fire. Could imagine it would be good for a boiler but would it not burn very quickly being so small?
  16. Bought log tongs, log hook, a sappie, wedges, marker paint and a lovely Boker knife. Had a chat with Jim from Caledonian Forestry re the expected delivery of my Palax KS35 - hopefully next week. Was great to be able to see all the various processors in one place and I can safely say I am glad I chose Palax. Some cracking forwarding trailers with cranes available for use behind a Land Rover or tractor. As a first timer to APF, my mate kept telling me it was huge and whilst I thoroughly enjoyed it I will have to take him to the CLA game fair to show what a huge show is like.
  17. Thought as much, but on arrival at customers house how do you unload the bag without the aid of a crane and then manouver to final position?
  18. Having done a lot of research over the last 6 months with a view to setting up my own business, most people seem to be selling builders bags for a minimum of £60 each so that would suggest you are too cheap. What type of Land Rover could you get three full dumpy bags in the back of?
  19. Congratulations Lorry to you and your wife; you'll have your own little team of groundies in a few years time!
  20. After being made redundant last year following 23 years with the same employer, and deciding to do what I wanted to do for a change I can honestly say you will never look back. I found just saying yes to things led to new opportunities - I went from sitting at a desk all day to dry stone walling, driving dump trucks, gardening, and now setting up a firewood business. I really do not think I could do the same job five days in a row now. Good luck, keep smiling and start enjoying life!
  21. If you have to ask the question...a Land Rover product or a.n.other pick up?... you know the heart is saying Land Rover but the head is saying Nissan, etc! I am currently trying to decide on a vehicle and after driving Land Rovers for 23 years have looked at a Ford Ranger - very nice, but disappointing seats compared to my Freelander and not really that big a pick up bed - but am now thinking Discovery TD5 Commercial.
  22. The sides on the tray are a tad shallow though, would probably need extending, mesh cage or greedy boards.
  23. I've obviously got too much spare time at work but this looks an interesting motor - Range Rover Classic professionally built pickup 4x4 on eBay (end time 02-Sep-10 15:34:29 BST) Could be useful for so many things!!! Especially for someone setting up a log business - like me!! Although I do fancy a Discovery Commercial.
  24. Have looked at the slappies on Clarks site, obviously the one with the toothed front edge is a lot more expensive - is it worth the extra money over the plain one?
  25. May be useful for some one SANTANA PS10 LANDROVERBOX VAN LUTON DEFENDER 90 110 4X4 on eBay (end time 26-Aug-10 14:11:27 BST) There's also a Transit 4x4 for spares or repair on e-bay
