  2. Ian H

    todays job,

Nice shots ady, my folks just moved out of pentire, nice spot great views:thumbup:
  3. Dean I do exactly the same and accountants view is that he submits accounts to the revenue, authorises them, and fingers crossed this meens they don't question the legitimacy, hopefully the loopholes they know outweigh their fees although you've gotta wonder sometimes, my accountants view is better to make profit and have to pay tax on it than no profit at all, distorted logic IMO what can you do as a sole trader my salary comes out of net profit!!
  4. Nice plug(kidding) but can see a specialised/niche consultancy role on here(I'm sure you're already onto it), hence marketing thread i guess. Bravo for quality derail:thumbup:
  5. Not a derail, we are talking about how you want HMRC to pay for you to stay fit and get enough supplements inside you, so you can keep up with the Mrs. If thats not a justifiable expense, i dont know what is:thumbup: Quote gone funny again Ok mate i can go with that besides is there a thread on here that doesn't go 'off topic', not that we are of course:biggrin: I take it judging by your expertise that your background is/was in marketing/acountancy/business, love the teacher'esque authority in the marketing thread BTW:001_smile:
  6. [if you think you are getting any sympathy, cos you are feeling the strain of having a nice younger Mrs, think again:lol: Would expect nothing less of you mate:thumbup: Think this is another de rail, oops:blushing:
  7. cheers mate , not complaining thats for sure:sneaky2:mind you feel every year of the age difference sometimes:laugh1:
  8. Not sure what would happen if i got investigated tho!! Ouch:thumbup:mind you still managed to bag a wife 10yrs younger than me:thumbup:
  9. :lol:Can he claim it as an expense tho:laugh1:
  10. Definately can, I claim regular massage sessions(not that type of massage:001_tt2:) and as long as you justify it as work related I've had no problems claiming it, also got away with supplements(argued increased wear/tear) can't see why same wouldn't apply to gym.
  11. Oops just rechecked thread and quote issue just happened to me too:confused1:
  12. Sorry mate, you are still wrong. Dividends are not tax free. The basic idea is that if you earn a decent amont of money you will be paying 40% tax on it, if you take a small salary and claim the rest as dividend payments you can reduce your tax bill slightly. I think the rate for dividends up to 150k is about 35%. On small amounts, up to about 35-40K ish you pay 10%. It can be worth doing, but IMO if you are only earning 35K a year, the additional red tape and expenses of being ltd would not be worth the trouble. I dont know why your quote has appeared under my name and your quote is underneath. Anyone know why? Ok thanks, think I'll give it a swerve then, can't be doing with more redtape etc, wish my accountant could have been as concise:thumbup: Don't understand your quote issue either I'm afraid:confused1:
  13. [ Ian, you cant pay salary as a dividend. Yep you're right, I've just checked, you have to pay yourself say minimum wage(minimal tax) then you can pay dividend as 'top up' even if calculated monthly(based on projected profit) then it's tax free, does that make more sense!!?
  14. Seems like they get you every which way:cursing:
  15. TomTom my wife uses is awesome but like arbclimber said they use quickest route which can be a pain when you find yourself heading down lanes with no warning, otherwise they're vv good. I more of a maps fan also, love ordnance survey & a/z's:thumbup1:
  16. Ian H

    It's a girl

Yee ha:thumbup: Congrats to you both:congrats: Looking forward to the photos.
  17. Agreed plus can also claim allowance if you use same mobile phone for work/private, all leccy/heating/home phone etc related to 'home office', also wife doing admin/cleaning etc all allowable. Also depends on self employed status, if you're a sole trader then net profit is taxed, so gotta bring profit down by any means, if you go incorporated/ltd company you can pay salary as dividend which makes it tax free or summit, and also vat registration allows claim back on all vat related purchases but you definately need an accountant who's prepared to work to beat the system-it's a minefield:confused1: Does feel like the harder you work the more you give away. Good luck mate:thumbup1:
  18. Hi Rob don't want to de-rail your thread but did you get taught to use bowline at college? only i read that it shouldn't be used as a climbing knot 'cos it can't cinch onto your karabiner and may allow biner to rotate and possibly open gate(same prob with figure 8) or put strain in wrong direction, suggested popular alternative is double fishermans, easy to tie and grips but still unties, others are available:thumbup1: Can anybody else confirm this?
  19. Agreed, most of the faces in the line up when surfs pumping are the old boys, most of the youngsters are posing by their cars(with boards on roof)
  20. May i be so bold as to suggest a hobby like tiddlywinks:sneaky2: PS. think we're probablyguilty of derailing this thread, oops:blushing:
  21. Think I'll stick to surfing and watersports, rib fractures and neck trauma seems like a small price to pay compared to your catalogue!!!
  22. Cheers buddy I'll give it a try, things are definately abit more creeky these days, still gonna count backward through the years tho:biggrin:
