  2. Goood shout!!! that will help a bit.
  3. Thanks.. I never knew that. I will try and find it on google..
  4. Never a truer word said. But at least if its out there and in the public eye there is more chance of things moving forward. I would like to see more higher level environmental stewardship by farmers. Would go a long way.
  5. Being in Blandford have you had the chance to have a look at/ climb the huge plane trees at Bryanston school. Ive seen pictures/ footage of a few people who have climbed them. Dead jealous! I would love to go see them. Do you know what the school are like about letting people in to see them?
  6. http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/biodiversity/documents/201009space-for-nature.pdf a very important report, worth having a read over. Linking up all of the patches is important! Battling against habitat fragmentation:thumbup:

    i'm home

Congrats on getting out of the hospital mate. All the best
  8. The molecule never changes. It always has that difference in charge. Its just that when it freezes they align like magnets. Perhaps I misinterpreted what you meant by a change in the molecular structure. Its more a change in the arrangement of them. As a liquid there is no molecular lattice or grid if you like. In order to become a solid they have to create a fixed lattice and during that process the molecules align themselves based on the slight charge at either end of the molecule. Hope that makes sense. Im sure the wiki page can explain it better.

  10. The molecular structure can never change otherwise it would no longer water. Its all H2O. But when water freezes the reason it expands is to do with the charge within the molecule. The 2 Hydrogen atoms carry a slight positive charge and the Oxygen atom carries a slight negative charge. It is called hydrogen bonding. Hydrogen bond - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  11. Paul, I dropped you a PM but Im guessing you have it sorted now...?
  12. Awesome videos Gord! Who is it you work for? Really keen to get out to BC one day and do some of that!
  13. I think Im following you. But if you set it up like that Im struggling to see how its going to work much like a hitchclimber.. You need to get some pictures up for us!! Got me curious now!
  14. Oh right I get you now. So you are clipping into the becket with the spliced end??
  15. Yea to be honest Rob, i have my reservations about it too. It is not a system I use. I just put it up for the purpose of explaining whats going on. Picture/1000words... Yea a maillon would probably do the trick there. But whats the difference between krab to maillon and krab to krab. The only difference I see is that the maillon is a harder metal and therefore more likely to damage the krab which is softer metal. Plus it just adds more mass to the system, which is an attempt at streamlining. Perhaps the best thing to do is just use things for what they are designed for and dont try to mess about with stuff
  16. Couple of pictures of what I think Darren is talking about (correct me if im wrong) but with a petzl fixe instead of a pinto. In the picture shown here its a bit of a tight squeeze between the pulley rope and krab. But it is 13mm rope and the ISC mini hms are not that mini in terms of spine diameter. Hope this is helpful for someone.
  17. well yea, it does work with a fixe. The only slight problem you may encounter is that with the krab going in between the cheeks of the pulley and there being another krab through the cheek holes (naff description i know) and the rope against the pulley it can be a bit tight, creating a bit more friction than you want! however, im sure it could be remidied by using a thin krab like one of the dmm ovals and a thin rope. Also, the length of the cheeks on the pinto pulley may be longer than on the fixe, giving you more space..
  18. Are you talking about clipping the krab on the spliced end into the hitch krab between the cheeks of the pulley? I have seen that done with the petzl fixe. Should work with the pinto too..?
  19. Parmelia sulcata if you are interested.
  20. Also.. So if they are the same rope why the difference in price? Buxtons have 45m of limelite for £109 but Poison Ivy seems a fair bit more expensive?
  21. So does anyone use Limelight or have any experience of it for climbing on rather than its construction.. Any good?
  22. That makes me feel a bit better as its only a small lump. I think i got the cut angle right. Just should have taken a few more full strands out before burying the core.
  23. Cheers Had. I used the yale instructions and tbh i thought they were crap. Looked at the samson ones just now and they are much better. And yes, i didnt get my taper right again.. maybe one day i will get one spot on.
  24. I did a bit of reading around and it seems to be a double braid splice? Samson: The Strongest Name in Rope, Utility Products Splicing Instructions | Yale Cordage
  25. The blaze was a bit of a struggle but I managed to finish it before my hands fell apart Photos from UK Hand Splicing | Facebook
