  1. hey ben, just looking at that system and sorry to put a downer on it but if the top hitch gets forced down it will also pull the other down with it. for what eva reason probs unlikely but not good pratice i think.... and if you working single line you need to take out friction before the hitch like figure 8, fake revolver etc. i just had a go on a homemade friction device. a america guy also came up with i think. its a peice of wood/smooth metal etc that puts a bend in the rope before it gets to the hitch. works just like your normal system. (hitchclimber prussik, then peice of cord to the wooden device) its mega easy to advance ur hitch just push's it forward, baiscally free to make too. best thing i have seen in very long time. cant remeber the name of it tho, sure somebody on here can help you out with the name. i am in the process of making and will try get pics up. cheers Matt
  2. remember guys were are the professionals for one reason! we do it properly! it takes one slip, one rotten branch etc. and this is why we are trained to do it the safe why. i just my landyard when needed! always on my harness! can be used to resuces too and lots of other handy uses u can imgaine into thoses funny sitiutations. Try putting a prussik just above ur spliced eye and then u can use that tail as well as ur main line, landyard. this could give you help for thoses dodgey occaisions. it could also be used as a redirect. install two ropeguides etc! think out side the box and climb safe more importantely
  3. what if your srt line anchor snaps out drew? and then the cinch is shockloading on a static line? which could happen as you very much well know. maybe a drop test on this would be gd? but i could imgaine it would be fine, it mite lock too hard and give you a massive shock. as to lets say a vt system or gri gri etc.
  4. Oooo look at you and ur big winch hahaha, fair do's dismantles are always fun. even if you are freezing ur balls off. Gd to hear catch ya at uk comp:)
  5. I think its good idea, its a shame there is lack of people at these events tho. My only concern would be by only having one Comp you mite have a bad day etc and say if you did 3 over wkends more chance of getting higher level poistion. but over three days would be wicked and the only way to find out is to give it a go ay. workshop also sounds really good and massive help for all climbers. We just did the Nationals in NZ and the top climbers did a little workshop after and everyone sat down and went through lots different ideas. didnt need to be a long workshop just a more demo and try it your self style. i think £100 would be max really but what your saying sounds like a wicked to remember, and obviously needs funding. more funding you put it the better it will be no. i really enjoy the Myerscough 2008 one, great laugh and handy faciteiles. i am currently running a fancey dress comp in Jan in NZ, hopefully will catch on. raise some money for a good cause and a great day out. would be keen at looking a doing one in UK too...... Cheers Matt Glen
  6. cheers guys, sounds like may is the time to be back then. all good here, now ready for move to Ozzy in jan. Summer is awsome as is your winter i am guessing;p nar not climbing on Spiderjack anymore found it was slowing me down, but is great peice of equipment when you get used to it. U looking at buying one bro? i found on doing swings could be bit thumbly and u wear through clutchs quick as, and it get roasty hot on big fast descends.
  7. Hey all, just wondering when the uk comps are and european comps if people got any info that be great. i am looking at booking flights back and need to know dates asap please? cheers matt glen
  8. straight fell surely not? rossco thought u da chainsaw master!
  9. BRO!! u know its too cold when u are putting ur toe out of ur front door in the morning and testing how cold it is. Do some star jumps in ur grundies before u climb and then dont stop moving and you will be sweet as:P Like drew amazing weather here Hottest November yet, but defo do a warm up before you start ascending the tree dude. hope it goes well, main thing is safety bro. if tooooo scarey you will only lose abit of PRIDE:) climb safe Rossy
  10. Wooooooooow what a clever guy, must be brainy!
  11. Maybe the best way if to try it no? just get a mate and then start going up his line, also time it aswell and see what different ways they are. e.g climbing his line, going up access line, starting from the ground. this will give you the best idea, i think yeah sweet going up his line is rescue situation obviously it would work in all situations but as long as you do your own risk assement of the tree/anchor point.but it would pull him/her up to there anchor point, no biggy in my eyes. i agree with drew access lines are the way forward, or climbing on floating anchor points so you can be lowered from the ground, unless u got ya landyard on.
  12. very cool man, niceone
  13. Snap hooks are the way for sure! but here in NZ there are banned, are they sweet to use in the uk? different setup for sure tho.
  14. Cinch all the way.......used to have Art positioner
  15. Sorry my bad, easy mistake to make. i didn't offened too many people. GO the Knut!
  16. sweet man, yeah thats good it works for you dude. the old Armor prus ay, thats coming all way from New Zealand. i am currently in NZ, loads people climb on it, its gd hitch cord but i climb on 10mm and dont as keen on it to the 10mm OP. i dont think it be 9mm armor prus either, be 8mm green or 10mm blue. Anyways hope it keeps working well man
  17. climbed on it for ahwhile, thought it was a good Hitch for sure. i found VT good and free running but sometimes u need to dress it before sitting back on it, and twist ur rope like a bugger. I now climb on the Knut and 10mm ocean poly, works mint always need dress but only for very first part of and climb, and then re-set it and works mint and always locks off. Will have another climb on it now you mention it, but the Knut is overall the best working hitch with a hitch climber in my humble opinon.
  18. there was diffienately some useful information in there but not a answer i was looking for. but i suppose 40-60% will do. Also seen a few ropes snapped, mainly old climbing lines for pulling trucks out. and more other than not, snapped in the middle or away from the knot. i think is due to rope wear, maybe knicks in rope, sun damage, age etc. thats were there not for climbing. But one with a guy who thought he is a arborist. lowering head out of pine tree on a steel carbineer and snap lowering rope. think it was an old line too tho. and more other than not, snapped in the middle or away from the knot. i think is due to rope wear, maybe knicks in rope, sun damage, age etc. thats were there not for climbing. As to question before, i use a splice and alpine butterfly on same line for my rope guide.
  19. So was wondering how much a well dress corretly tied knot, will take out of a climbing line. e.g climbing line 2700kg, knot takes out 1000kg and then splice in end takes out 200kg( = full strength of climbing line 1500kg) or will it just break at 1700kg due to the knot? be helpful if some one could give a exmaple like this but with the correct answer and rating on true strength on rope and knot. 1. Bowline? 2. Double Bowline? 3. Alpine Butterfly? 4. Fishermans? be handy to know, cheers matt
  20. Haha when is this decider happening then? as of training for Comps goes. best is to go out with guys who have done them before and run through the events. and then pratice pratice pratice and it doesnt really help going out the nite before as many of us know, as much as we like to think it does.
  21. ah true, yeah i meant the vertex dunno who i came up with best must got em mix up. all gd swedish Dave.
  22. 50m-60m zing it all the way. 10oz weight throwbags x2(3 is ideal for attached one if need for extra weight. can also pull of other end of line but 3 is a bounus). flip line i suggest 10mm-11mm climbing line 3.5m lenghtish, and trango cinch as this is easy to adjust and can be used for single line also.
  23. i have one, but only use for comps. as before u cant attach ear muffs. and as these helements are designed for rock climbers. they are designed for impact on the top only and not on the sides. so ur not suppose to use for work! best alternative is the (petzl best) which is made for side impact aswell. hope that helps.
  24. or high and fast!
  25. try the dmm shadow. thats small and triple lock.
