  1. sure that wasnt your driving test mate:lol:
  2. but not quite ay:) burn that Hitch:biggrin:
  3. i think finding a place, no matter where it is in the Uk as long as it is in the UK. if you make it so strict and limiting the places where you can go so much. its going to be very hard to get people to go, due to the short/little notice. surely if people had more warning where it was talking place, people could better plan to get to the event regardless of where it is north or south. i think this is the more limiting factor os people not be able to make it. i think we really need to have a look at the lack of planning/warning/notice, we the climbers are given. There are lots of very very beautiful places and trees, that can be used. what about using some of the older sites that were used years ago, we know they worked. Example: Newport, Caple Manor, Myerscough ect etc and we can always change the trees around abit, not a isssue.... Matt Glen
  4. another option, would be to have another rope and attach that to the top of your Rope, Alpine and bineer etc etc. Then trail it with you until you need to do that redirect. But you would need a need another system on that, i reckon this would work really well. and would be fully retrievable too. mog
  5. couldnt you use the same system as, re-tracing your rope? i.e landyard in. tuck rope/RW over desired redirect point, then clip back in. Undo lanyard move to desired work place. then do the same backwards to retrieve the rope wrench and rope back to you, by pulling the tail? bummer if you dont have a crotch tho..... mog
  6. bet that was wicked bro, totally agree with the bonus of being able to descend. fair safer way of climbing and big tree. Especially when you are climbing massive trees like that. is a bit of a mess about otherwise. espically when you go " oh man, left my sleeping bag on the ground".....the Old wrench would regenerate abit of heat tho, as too the hitch on thoses kinds of distances... what you reckon? defo better than not having the option, i suppose. MOG
  7. try these this summer mark only $10 little bit shipping, probs find em in uk too. Tree Stuff - Lexa Gray Safety Glasses mog
  8. haha yeah mark will send most of it over, taking 30kgs on the plane with me anyways. thanks for the lovely offer i am sure it would all be there waiting for me ay..... MS201 T i dont rate it. ok its good on fuel but the lack in power is bit of joke, especially when they say it got more power. at first i thought yeah its not too bad but i just dont see why the they changed it the 200t was mint. Anyway that what it is i suppose, i am looking at drilling into the exhaust and making couple holes see if that works. maybe by-pass the CAT inside it....need to find out abit more first before i start down that road. tut tut i know, but i use a 14" bar on so lose abit there too. if you doing bigger stuff, can be a bit tire some espically when you want to chase a cut. Gears locked in the Car in the locked bunker:) mog
  9. end of june, go to euro's first to help setup and then fly back to uk after that. yeah be working all over i say.
  10. TreeStuff in usa mate cheap there, probs get them in the uk tho too. Tree Stuff - Lexa Gray Safety Glasses mog
  11. spot on Rupe, yeah coming back mate. Heard theres is lots of work in the uk and good money at the moment.... pretty standard thats abit harsh mate haha, thats my bread and butter right there;p Phff Big Spot i reckon, just need to be able to throwline ay;p if you are throwing super super high. i.e over 30m then fair do's but still they only get bout 40ishm with throwline. As day today, throwline all the way. another idea i had was...... throwbag on 2-3m zing it etc and then attach fishing line with Reel and throw from that. be super easy packing/carrying, havent tried it yet. but the theory is there.... mog
  12. Welcome to Matts lost and found Rich;p daily check sheet is when i use a bit of equipment i look over it before i use it and during. thats good enough for me. (also knowing the history too) LOLER what?? lol nar i am in OZ in melbs atm, so dont do that. at every comp, all my gear gets check and last year i did 7 so that plenty LOLER for me. some jobs we do a inventory and check each others gear. Yeah selling most of my gear before i come back to sunny UK. mog
  13. As said before this is my contacting kit and will be sad to see her go, lots and lots of Fun time and money gone into this lifestyle choice. ( i got too much time on my hands and too into trees haha) ASIF any questions just holla out cheers Mog
  14. Lexa glasses alway the way, never ever steam up!
  15. mate, nice first kit. now you have just licked the ice berg, wait a couple years and you have enough kit for you and your friends. especially little shiny bits and stuff that you dont use but when you do, Ohh man hahaha. i am returning to the uk and will take a pick of my contracting gear that goes everywhere with me, as i have to flog/give it off. be a laugh and this will show what your gear will look like in years to come. Keep up the good work and be proud of your gear and it will look after you. cheers MOG
  16. the joys of single line;p
  17. i think they are talking about you adam:lol:
  18. good techniques mate, Nar i dont leave holding wood between step cuts. but sometimes do wing cuts, as a thing of habit. and i think it no a bad idea to do them. to be a bit clearer, it more like a three quarter circle i do. but just a slight cut on each side. start fairest point away from you move round the stem back towards you and then do other step cut just above. on top side of stem, then piece is gone. this leaves you with a little cut on left side of stem, running on the same cut is your first step cut and then when you same little cut on right. this pretty much creates a square/rectangle. then your top step cut just above. be much easier to do a diagram. maybe try and draw some things your selves and try it out. i am just saying this is the way i do and it works for me and makes sense. cheers Mog
  19. haha here goes.... Lanyard, Silky, 2 spare bineers, spare hitch, first aid blood stopper, plasters and tiny knife, throwball, little hook (traversing), Dmm ring, footlock prussik and rope guide. oh and 201 when i need it. weighs abit but every thing is there when i need it, all stays on. unless you get a gay job like climbing through hedges and the sort. just imagine how fast you climb when you take it all off;p and TBH sometimes it more painful then its worth trying to get it sent up if you are a contact climber lol. 'he says banging his head against the tree" mog
  20. yeah i wasnt very clear sorry. We had huge laterals and there was no really way of step cuts with out standing them up abit/alot. as if we did step cuts, this would mean the crane would have to put huge amount of force to pull branch up and that is not what you want, a flying 1tone tree butt at your face. i agree no holding wood, but i like to do tiny step cuts, rather than cutting right through. so it gives it a little lip to stop it from coming towards me and i can get out the way. they are a good little use i reckon, and defo is not just for felling. Felling from the ground is the same as felling in a tree no? when doing huge pieces i dont fancy them ripping or twisting. To be fair i do lots of big euc's over here in Oz. but thought i would bring the topic up for a bit of discussion and info. cheers Mog
  21. Hey, as title says. i was doing a large crane removal today. 2 trees right next to each other Pin oak and English oak. me in one and another climber in other tree. so we were taking it in turns with the crane. i was doing step cuts with wings in to remove peices and the other climber was tiny little under cut and then back cut. The difference between the two was quite something. as you would think one was tearing all over the place, twisting and putting force on the saw, were it shouldnt. but it was pretty cool to be able to exactly watch what was going at the same level and work out or try work out what i think would happen. if you are doing crane work or training. great idea to get up and have a look and can get some good pic's too. (unfortualetly i didnt:confused1:) anyways wings cuts are a gd idea, i think pretty much in most stituations. its just a laziness and poor training not to do them. Mog
  22. yeah seem em in the flesh and there are alot bigger than they look on pic's and they say there less likely to stuck but from what i saw they are way more likely to get stuck. You just cant beat the Harrison Rocket the attachment ring is quite big(diameter) so it be hard to slip knot on to it, so you would have to tie loop too. which is a downside for me, i think they could be similar to the Tree peeeee Dooooooooo..... its smashed the car;p mog
  23. hey mate, i am the guy climbing in frictionhicthery and yes your right i did have to push up the hitch to make it fully grab but as drew mentioned it would grab under fast descent. the hitch also is a knut not a VT. we had abit loose setup on this tree, for going back up and it self tending as it did. as other wise joe would been way faster. Now i use a variation of the VT, which doesn't self tend but grabs every time. can run very fast, doesn't lock up, no twisting and once it bites you can break it free with ease. This will improve your climbing so much, as you know everytime your hitch will grab. yes if you set your hitch loosey it will self tend better but it will slow you down having too touch your hitch everytime and will knock your confidence in your gear holding and slow you down again. my advice to you is, use a hitch that bites everytime and in doing this will make you a better, quicker and safer climber. there are ways to tend it, espically when your in a tree hold above and below hitch and walk in, pantin and groudies. i attached a pic of my setup. Cheers Matt Glen
  24. hey tony, hitchclimber (friction cord Ocean poly or Beeline, knut or VT) all the way mate. much more efficient than prussik and works way better. best thing to do is read the hitch climbers guide and that will tell you everything you need to know about it. it is alot more than a pulley to tend your slack. i use mine for heaps of different applications daily and wouldnt work without it. Have fun MOG
  25. i have my waist belt pretty tight under putting harness on, then when you sit in it, it slackens off. but dont have probs with a big saw, maybe try lanyarding into lower d's and clipping saw to your working rope. Suspeners will help heaps imgaine tho Cheers MOG
