  1. Thanks do you know the size of the bearing i would need? I don't want to take the old ones out until I have got the new ones ready to fit!
  2. I'm after some wheel bearings for the honda and a few other parts what online suppliers do people use? Cheers, James.
  3. Just found this thread and am thinking about buying one of these machines. I strim quite a few large areas by hand and this may cut down on a lot of time. Would they be suitable for using on a wildflower meadow? I currently mange one and the growth needs cutting down at the end of the season but it gets to about 1m high and above would these machines cope? Also what model did you go for there seems to be about 5 different versions? is there much difference between them?
  4. No I Realise that, using subcontractors will be quite similar to an employee
  5. I think for now i'd like to use subbies atm, this would hopefully mean no need to invest in further equipment and finding reliable staff.
  6. Good review, Will you change your cs100 for the m500? or stick as you are? I'm trying to make my mind up between the cs100,m400 or m500. Does anyone know the prices or these three machines new as well?
  7. My workload seems to be getting bigger and bigger at the moment and I am thinking about using sub contractors to help maintain some of my commercial sites. This would involve regular cutting and strimming of grass, trimming hedges, picking up litter, weed control and collecting fallen leaves in the winter. Basically what you would normally do as a grounds maintenance firm. What would be the going rate i should expect to pay for say a two man team for a day or one man for a day? They obviously must have all their own equipment, necessary insurance and a means to dispose of the arising from site. Also is this a worthwhile route to go down? do any of you use subcontractors or just use employees? I don't want to employ any more staff at the moment to be honest. Any help/advice would be great!
  8. I'm after some spares for my honda. I usually use lings but i can't find the parts i'm after: -Rear wheel bearings. -The "cog" that fits inside the wheel. Not the piece that engages drive with the two little teeth on, the actual cog bit that fits inside the wheel itself. (hope that makes sense!) If anyone knows where i could order these from i would appreciate it a lot! James.
  9. How come you went for the stihl then? I'm after a similar sized saw myself...
  10. Its good to think of the future and plan ahead. Not sure about what grounds maintenance work should be per hour, maybe asking on the landscaping section may give you a clue?
  11. Interesting formula, i presume you mean the profit you make would go towards trying to expand the business? so if you wanted to stay the same size you wouldn't need any (although obviously some would be nice!) Everyone must have a different opinion on what their annual salary should be as well? what would be a reasonable ball park figure for someone with just one full time employee?
  12. forgot to say it would be profitable providing you price it right etc etc I'd work out an hourly rate and go from there, or work out what you'd want to make per day for say a two man team.
  13. Interesting thread, I think it would be worthwhile doing if you can set up a decent client base and get good guys working for you. Don't know how many climbers/tree guys want to do strimming, grass cutting a couple of days a week instead of tree work. Obviously you'd have to invest in more kit but providing funds allow you wouldn't need much to start with. The other thing to think of is green waste disposal as well. I dunno what the going rate for grounds maintenance is, would £25 per hour quoted include removing all waste etc or would a tipping fee be put on top?
  14. Really? what was the outcome of this?
  15. even if its just waste/scrub land? i.e not an actual agricultural field?
  16. I have been offered the option to rent some farm ground to use as my yard but I am just wandering what the rules are regarding using the area as a place to store green waste. 80% of my work is garden maintenance hedge cutting, lawn mowing etc etc. I have been on the environment agency website and its like looking for a needle in a haystack....

    New Radio

I'm after a new radio for my shed and have been looking into "jobsite" radios, especially the makita. Does anyone have one or could make any other recommendations before i part with my money? I'm hoping that it will be able to put up with the dust etc.. This is the one i'm interested in: Makita DMR106 Site Radio Bluetooth/USB 18V (Body Only) - Radios - Power Tool Accessories - Power Tools | Axminster Tools & Machinery Cheers, James.
