  1. Yes will be interesting to see how long the whole machine lasts in comparison to petrol versions. I tend to swap mine every two years.. I do a lot of hedge cutting so this could be a good investment depending on how they last etc..
  2. Interesting i may go for that then, whats the best way to quarter saw using a chainsaw mill then? I'd be looking at mostly 4x2" i guess may be some 6x2" etc I have already cut a load of beams/posts out of a 36" plus oak tree so they won't be boxed heart would they be ok to be cut down to make joists etc? So if i want to make a load of say 8" beams would it be best to pick out a load of oak trees say only a foot in diameter to make the beams box heart and avoid wasting too much wood? Apologies for all the questions, i don't want to go head long into milling the wood up and then realise its not going to be able to be used for what i want!!
  3. Thanks for the reply, I have got a 36" plus diameter oak to mill. I was going to mill it all into posts so is it better just to make one beam from the centre? and use the rest for rails etc? Would it be better to mill smaller trees to suit the size of posts i need so i get boxed heart each time?
  4. Whats the best way to mill oak to get the maximum strength out of the wood? I intend to use some of my milled wood for building work on my house etc.. Would you use posts where the central core of the tree runs right through the post? or quarter sawn so you avoid to much splitting from the core?
  5. just had a look hes out of stock of the 12" sugi light ones!
  6. Wheres the best place to buy them form? Going to try a 12" for my 200t!
  7. I need a fuel tank for a stihl fs94 as somehow (i have no idea how) the old one has hole in it. Just wandering where i could get one from? Cheers.

  9. I could be, only looking to buy when i build up a bit of money in the bank though! Where abouts are you? I could do with seeing one in action first.
  10. Haven't got one yet! but yes looking at the 18hp one Are they easy enought o lift onto a transit then?
  11. Just wandering how everyone gets their cs100 (or similar wee chipper) to and from jobs? on the back of the truck, on a trailer etc etc. I'm looking at buying one but don't really want to splash out and buy one of those specially built trailers for it. Would it be too much to try and get it onto the back of the transit tipper? Any ideas or pictures of peoples set ups would be great!

    Spanners

Snap on for halfords prices i would obviously buy all the time! Does anyone still use king dick tools? They always use to be very highly recommended, I don't know how good the new stuff is though, only ever used their older tools borrowed from my grandad!!!! They were a real pleasure to use, always seem well made and fitted in your hand nicely.

Unfortunately i rarely see any snap on vans round my way! other wise at that price i think i would buy them!
  14. What do you think of the 560 Paul, have you been using one much? I've been thinking of investing in one but i'm a bit of a stihl man myself...

    Spanners

I did look at these but at any where from 30 pounds per spanner and a 7 piece set costing over £300 on their website there a bit steep for me! Have you got a set yourself? what are they like?

Thanks for the info i reckon i'll go for their spanners have you got one of their socket sets? Looking to buy a decent set for maintenance of equip in the future. There seem to be a few different types of ratchets to choose from do you know what the differences are?

    Spanners

I bet that cost a bob or two! what are the ratchets like? I've never been a fan of ones with rubber handles. Where did you buy them from?

    Spanners

Right, I'm after some spanners, i want them to be ratcheting and be able to buy them individually as and when required, so i can build up a decent set and not spend a fortune all at once. I already have some metric ones so i'm really only after imperial sizes. I know of a few brands that have been recommended on here such as bahco, facom and teng. But I'm not sure which ones to go for as they are all quite similar. At the moment i'm leaning towards facom as it looks like they have a lever to reverse them as well but i'm not sure if the other makes do that as well. Could anyone recommend a good supplier and which make to go for?
  21. Ordered my bearings last week and they came the next day, very pleased with the service! Thanks for the recommendation, i will be using them from now on!
  22. Thanks for the reply, yes those are my thoughts exactly on why using subbies may be a good idea for my business at the moment.
  23. Nice i've thought about getting a hedge cutter with a catcher plate for conifer hedges as well. Which model did you go for?
  24. That is a lot of hedges! Yew is some of the nicest to cut though if your hedge cutters are sharp! How many of you working on it? Did you do all the inside and tops of the hedges in the picture today?
  25. Had a look on their website and can't find them on there!
