    srt rescue

cue embarrassing paint pic... http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34758&stc=1&d=1272235324 i suppose if this technique works then your "rescue kit" can be as basic as a prussic loop.

    srt rescue

could this technique be used to rescue a climber on doubled rope? ie injured climber suspended from his bowline/pruss etc, rescuer ascends the trailing end of the climbers line, using SRT ascending techniques... then clips himself to the injured climber, and descend. or is this a tried and tested technique that i should probably already know about .....
  4. p.s climb up with him in case he gets stuck etc
  5. id have thought it would be fine, be careful not to snap any branches off by accident, and obviously dont have a saw attatched to the harness!! not to derail the thread but do any rules or regulations apply to recreational climbing? for example do you need to be insured to climb a tree in a park where theres people about, even if no work is being done? sounds daft but you never know
  6. nice one
  7. must be nuts goin back to the same tree you worked on 10 years ago!
  8. another birch... http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34684&stc=1&d=1272194012 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34685&stc=1&d=1272194012

  10. ive been trying the vt out for a bit but havent quite got the hang of it, keep going back to the prussic, think im more confident with a more farmilliar knot
  11. i think willow is probably my favourite tree
  12. cheers Monkey D, thats what i thought. its good to put a name to it. maybe the brown leaves would give the impression of the tree being dead, further deterring the browsers? sean, thats an interesting idea too, that the tree retains its leaves until it can make most use of them. it makes sense that it would be the lower branches too, as they would fall closer to the tree. clever beeches!
  13. saw one of these the other day im sure! dead interesting, like those caterpillars that look like a twig
  14. beech for me! while im here can anyone explain to me why a beech hedge retains its dead leaves over winter while a tree does not? several times i have seen both on one tree (low branches retaining leaves, upper branches without leaves). i am wondering what is the height cut off point and why? i was thinking it might be something to do with protection from grazers etc, similar to holly foliage having spines lower down on the tree, but not higher up. been puzzling me that one
  15. yea Tom D its right by Aira Force, at Ullswater. That spruce is huge aye, ive been 3 times now and i never get sick of looking at it. apparently planted as part of an arboretum during the 1800's.
  16. some randoms from a recent trip out... http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34034&stc=1&d=1271453891 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34035&stc=1&d=1271453891 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34036&stc=1&d=1271454087 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34037&stc=1&d=1271454087 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34038&stc=1&d=1271454087 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34039&stc=1&d=1271454087 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34040&stc=1&d=1271454087 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34041&stc=1&d=1271454087 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34042&stc=1&d=1271454087 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34043&stc=1&d=1271454087 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34044&stc=1&d=1271454087 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34045&stc=1&d=1271454087 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34045&stc=1&d=1271454087 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34047&stc=1&d=1271454087 http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=34048&stc=1&d=1271454087
  17. (not yet anyway!)
  18. yeah im planning on training for more NPTC's soon as i raise a bit of cash. Its usually only a silky that goes up the tree as the jobs i get arent massive or anything.
  19. my dad (diff indurstry to us) tells me that you get an average 1 enquiry per 100 leaflets- 1% response rate. just as a matter of interest, he also tells me of a theory where a business- any business, industry, whatever- needs 100 customers per year to survive. 100 cusomers per year and you're sorted apparently, this includes refferals, regulars, one offs or whatever. chris
  20. ok after some helpful advice and a bit of a panic i have secured the domain name for cnctreeservices.co.uk steve you were right, that 123 site you linked to only cost £7 for 2 years including VAT, obviously well worth getting, naively it never occured to me that people would go around pinching domain names (i know its not really pinching but you know). now i just need to work on removing the ads (although none appear to be for my area) hamadryad- do you mean reffering to myself for example- CNC operate in.... Contact CNC for a free quote... etc? i was going to word it like this but wasnt sure if it sounded a bit impersonal, if you know what i mean? cheers for all the tips so far guys chris http://www.cnctreeservices.co.uk
  21. ok i see, i feel like a right tit, im on soring it now then ill be back to the thread cheers for the heads up guys
  22. what do you mean by monitor? buy the domain name before i get to it or something?
  23. the ads disappear when i pay the fee for the domain name, which i will do once the site is properly finished and worthy haha i know its simple, im just looking for ways i could improve it without making it too boring/wordy it is for cusomers after all, so theres no point overloading it with stuff they wont understand or care about chris
  24. hi guys, i created this website using a sort of template based system on webs.com, i dont have the proper domain name yet as i havent paid for it, but i will get round to it as its only around £20 per year. it would be good to have some input from yourselves on the wording, anything i could add, remove or improve. Anyway just wonderin if you could take a look, any constructive criticism/ advice apprecited! CNC Tree Services - Home
  25. in my experience, a few "please and thankyous" go a long way, phone manner is important as it is usually the first point of contact with a customer- first impressions n all that... simple things like being on time to give your quote, following up with a letter, a bit of chat and helpful attitude can make all the difference. infact i dont recall many customers even asking about my qualifications so maybe just being nice is the most important thing!
