  2. sweet! is the SSSI for any particular species or just for the general diversity of the place?
  3. .... Trametes versicolor Trichaptum abietinum Phellinus ignarius Daldinia concentrica Ganoderma applanatum

  6. cheers! yeah im not too happy with last one its a little dark.. I might well start a thread, but im going to have to think of a really epic name for it like everyone else does haha my camera is a fuji finepix S5500, 4 megapixel. the drawback for me is that its a little large to carry round at all times, i really want something pocket sized.
  7. does anyone have an opinion on the aphids this year, i was lifting a semi matue syc today and got absolutely swarmed by them, a couple of others have noted an increase in numbers, something to do with the weather perhaps?
  8. sounds good to me, ill pm you my number
  9. haha i was probably getting carried away. the site was absolutely pitted with phellinus of different of all shapes and sizes, so i was running about all over the place with the camera, so could have missed a clue or two
  10. fair enough! wasnt quite close enough to look at properly. it reminded me of the trails that mining insects make through leaves.
  11. more Phellinus ignarius, this time showing some sort of boring (boring not boring) insect...
  12. well spotted! I'm yet to see any laeteporus this year...
  13. second phellinus. i wonder if the fruit bodies crack up earlier in the warmer climate? on these ones the coloring looks like that of a young bracket, yet it has already got the cracked appearance of an older bracket. bla bla blahhh
  14. haha cheers mate! there's more pics from that site in this thread if your interested http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/picture-forum/16534-some-pics-2.html#post297943 and shed loads more on my computer
  15. phellinus ignarious? (on willow) not quite sure on the small, lighter coloured ones- young phellinus or something else?
  16. and a twisted old beech....
  17. took loads today....
  18. haha its the first one ive come across so i was quite surprised at the state of it
  19. im going to take a gamble on the description and go for Cryptococcus fagisuga- beech scale insect- lives on beech bark and creates a sort of white wooly effect on the bark. very common round here. the insects themselves are not an immediate problem, but if left for long enough, they will wound the bark leading to beech bark disease, which involves cankers eventually leading to the death of the tree. the insect can be removed by washing the bark with soapy water. or i could be wrong...
  20. just posted these in another thread but i think they have a place here too...
