  1. I think we should move away from blame. Its an interesting photo of an interesting incident. Its one of those fabled "near miss" things that are supposed to be reported.... ...and then investigated, in a not-pointing-any-fingers way. those on site (both cutting and supervising) may of gone home with a few new things to think about. As its been posted here, we are also able to pick over the bones and chew on the fat. Turns out we are hungry......
  2. Don't you think that "young and new lads" will learn more from this if the story is discussed. Surely thats more constuctive than everyone simply posting "thanks for posting" Oh, by the way, Thanks for Posting, bjam1964
  3. First question. Did the tree snap off or is it still attached to its roots (that are now sticking up in the air?)
  4. I was gonna say! 2 and a half mins for 9 pages would be awsome
  5. Post incident photos. Don't you love 'em. Good call on the existing stump Monkey-D Inspector 'Bolt' also wonders if thats a tracked greenmech in the distance on photo 1? Hmmmmmmm.
  6. WELL DONE! But just to clarify, did you do it in 2 and a half hours, of 2 and a half minutes?
  7. Those daff's in the picture are holding up well. Is it a recent event?
  8. .........................................and, (after braving the blood, and getting over the problem of having weights on each side of the rope equalling out) what happens when you are 3/4 of the way down and you notice you are at the end of the rope? :-)
  9. Wow mate, Now that is a powerful post. Respect to you.
  10. .... and the night is young, proceed
  11. If you have plenty of re-orders, and his logs are 'pants', he is probably not competition then (fair or otherwise )
  12. I think you are right (but only because your trailer is WAY undersize).
  13. artistic (as in photoshop )
  14. I think..... That the winch its self should be the 'weakest' link. In other words, all componens should be rated higher than the winches max pull.

Answer? not sure I understand the question
  16. I never worry about the water coming in, its all the different types of oil seeping out that should concern you.
  17. or get the kids to make it (they do a neater job) .
  18. I am also loving the rear cab bukhead, spot on! (and still the retrofit option for rear wash/wipe ). Could be a bummer if you gat a flat though, are you going to stash a spare somewhere, or maybe go down the tyreweld route .
  19. Cool, I can see how that works (your explaination even works for pure water). Cheers for explaining. Now you see why I ain't a 'logs' man
  20. I am confused. Surely just water on its own has a water content of only 100%. How can a log have a water content of more than this, there wouldn't be any volume left for the wood.
  21. JayVee seems to be interested in making money. I think this is something called business. Some others posting would appear to supply wood mainly for the common good. This is called being selfless, or maybe charitable. Some others are intersted in local jobs for their local community. Possably this is protectionism. Each to his own, it takes all sorts. (but how many in the last group drive foreign cars, trucks or operate plant made from overseas? How many select foreignt produced kit instead of UK made stuff, simply because its cheaper (or better). New Zealand lamb lamb anyone? or how about some Danish Bacon?) Tricky 'eh?
  22. I reckon red smells better as well (Tis proper diesel see, with none of that wishy washy detergent muck that you get in derv)
  23. Just a bad day I guess. Many people in 'chainsaw' related occupations spend a lot of time with their own thoughts. Forwarder driver. Log delivery run. stump grinding. Log splitter. etc, etc, etc. If you havent got anyone to chat to you can either A) start getting some weird ideas / plans/ views. or B) you can get drawn into the 'this is the way to do it' mentality. Here, you have a sounding off place, where you get not a single view (like you might get in a book), but a multitude of different, and sometimes hotly debated views. I find reading the first few lines is normally enough to see if its of interest, if it isn't I look elsewhere.....
  24. Pip did most of my original CS assessments, and also did my training and evaluation when I became an instructor, so I have heard the speal a few times the man is a legend.
  25. Did you assessor tell you that, if so, my money is on your assessor being Pip. Go on, was it, was it? Good old NPTC planting, it owes its very existance to the RFS cert arb
