  1. Hey everyone, As a few know I bought a Unimog that requires some work. I've decided to stick a thread up documenting my journey. An expensive journey I'm sure, but it's an investment for my businesses growth. So the story so far. The Unimog requires some work, bigger fuel tank, major service, leaks and today we found one of the rear springs has broken. We removed the aluminium back it had on because it wasn't up to scratch, welding and structurally. Today we cut the steel down for the chip box and have tacked it together, squared up the frame ready for welding tomorrow. We've still got the steel floor and 2ft sides to add in. The piece above this I've decided to add marine ply as it will have chip up there. Once the backs fitted out we can take the measurements and create the barn doors for the rear.
  2. Just don't let your mate poo in the woods when there's a toilet in the house. 😂😂
  3. Ah, got ya. Yeah possibly as worst case. It's a common thing on costal areas and poplars. One side 4m wide the other 14m and 12m tall.
  4. Eh? Stropped in.
  5. One from today, not my job I just popped in to lend them an x-ringing sling. 2016 I'm going for more arty pictures.
  6. Cheers timbernut, I just like the idea of turning waste into something else. A mate asked if there was anyway he could get extra horsepower out of his truck. I like to think I was helpful.
  7. Agreed!! I've had a few apprentices and they've been terrible a couple have been okay. I found that most the lads on the apprenticeship were told by the college "do this course". Most had to be spoon fed information all the time. I get it when you start but not 18months later. But the most annoying thing for me was the lack of support the college gave us. Meetings cancelled 5 minutes before I arrive. Lecturers turning up for a site check and are in trainers and no hard hat (sent off site!). Don't forget they are entitled to 1.5 days off per month plus bank/national holidays. For me I found it a much better investment to employe someone who's got most the tickets and some experience. Then pay for the rest of the tickets as you go.
  8. Rain stopped play today so I decided to play with an off cut of cherry. Finished in beeswax oil.
  9. Thought the area looked like that bit. Crikey fair play you. I think of of pulled my hair out and whimped out and gone the long route.
  10. Yeah came with it all on. Was your picture of the recent floods? I wouldn't of fancied that in my old ranger.
  11. Nice pics Jesse, Not so much a job but more of a tradition now. Every year this area floods so every year me and my brother go a drive through it.
  12. Never before have i ever regretted using the word hipster until now. I know I'm not cool but id never let myself forget trying to be a Reet cool buh.
  13. Not having a hipster drive it.
  14. So I'll just pop the final pre chip box build here. By the end of January she should be completed fully and working. So I'll post more then. I went with broomhilda as a name and I don't know why. Going to replace all the anti roll bushes as the others are looking tired. Rear hub seal to change as it's got a slight weep. Speedometer decided to pack up so that needs some investigation or replacing. Moving the smoke stack to drivers side and adding a large custom fuel tank passengers side.
  15. Would of been cheaper! Not sure the ins and outs. I try not to know that much so I can stay neutral on site. It's all based on calculations normally and will only be enforceable in certain situations. They can amend on site to appease other deemed things. For instance we had to remove the overhang back to the boundary line which, made them look ugly so at a guess that could be why we were asked to reduce them lower. Or even to have removed the section by the house and reduce the remainder in my eyes would have been the best option in middle ground terms. But I'm always baffled at how people allow these situations to get to this. Out of the last 10 I've done id say only 1 couldn't of afforded to pay for the works. She's the only one we were asked to crash it down and leave in situ.
  16. I beg to differ. There is when you only get 10 days off over Christmas and its one of your days off. The run up to Christmas is always full on for me as it's halfway through winter site managements, enforcements, clearances which require them completed before Christmas. 7 day weeks and long hours. This was supposed to be the last job and knock. So me and my mate bob came in. Let everyone else have the day off. So for me to get paid I have to complete the task fully, be it another unplanned day paid but felt it could of been completed within the original timeframe with a slight increase in costing. Rather than switching to an hourly rate and costing a heck of a lot more. Wasted time for me was reducing them, then reducing them 24hrs later. Although I'm not complaining about the bill I've sent in.
  17. It was on a rope we used for a swing. Wasn't actually clipped into it.
  18. I think as a whole the UK isn't bad for gun control. Licensing is there for a reason. I do think it's a stupid idea to allow the public to carry guns like in America though. Just my personal opinion but I think in my eyes that would make it a more dangerous place. Although don't forget America has a high gun crime rate and the UK has quite a high knife crime rate in some places. Is this because anyone over 18 can buy a knife? Just my pennies worth from how I see it.
  19. A siderjack the wrong way up. Why?
  20. Starter - Rope wrench - Pulley - Hand ascender, 1m tapered sling and a snap gate to make a chest loop, pantin. More advanced - Same as above but whatever srt device you like.
  21. Yeah all done on an hourly rate so I wasn't out of pocket. Just annoyed that id wasted a ton of time before reducing them. Also annoyed that I had to go to work today.
  22. A slightly frustrating end to the year. Carried out an enforcement for the local council. Reduce height by 1/3 only to get the enforcement officer agree to get us to knock another 20ft off to make it a 2/3 reduction. Anyway, a lot of stress and some headless chicken moments we managed to get it done today.
  23. Only blocked once with a bit of wood too big. It seemed the wetter it is the better it goes through. If I was setting up again I'd have one from the off. Punches well above its weight.
  24. Yeah I was longing for mine. But this was a cracking tool.
  25. Wee chipper to me 4" or 5"
