  1. not a laboratory test but tried cutting an old stihl groundy boot with a saw, ms460, willow log inside it, first cut the ankle and saw went straight through, then cut toes off just back from toecap and again saw went straight through, no blocking material made it to the sprocket at all, the saw struggled a bit with the sole as the stump wasnt level.. i'll pop a vid up if i manage later, next weeks test on the other boot will be done at lower rpm to try and clog the sprocket..
  2. mines exempt from tax and seatbelts..
  3. already got mine, just waiting for a quiet spell to push it through its first mot in many years..
  4. i'll be there the day after friday, unless i re-top some conifers really fast friday morning:001_tt2:
  5. i was standing a board in there but everytime i look away it falls down, oh well due to staffing malfunction (day off) tomorrow i might look into a solution. how about a remote controlled tree climbing robot that grips the stem like a harvester head, and drives up until it gets to a branch, then grips the branch and cuts/ lowers it down on a rope, or just cuts and drops if you press a button..
  6. was well impressed when i invented a hole in the chipbox with a chainsaw for the ladders to poke through.. i wish someone would invent some way of stopping the chip coming through when the ladders aren't in there..
  7. last few while theres still interest in them.. they are meant to be trippy and poisonous i think -wahay donk..!
  8. seen plenty in the last couple of years but never as brightly coloured as these, at first i thought 'no way- they must be ornaments!' the biggest was like a dinnerplate and the smallest undeveloped ones were like a spiny puffball type,
  9. ah haha:blushing:, feel free to use any of the pics, i just shoot em.. do you want me to email you the set? (theres a few more) Ed.
  10. didn't see any, the fb nearest the waterfall was an old one- all split open but i get nervous around water with my beloved camera so didnt nip over there..
  11. couple more, the last pic just for the smell of it..
  12. it was 6ft dia at nipple height, about 8/9ft at ground level, a biggie for me.. heres todays little treat..
  13. i nipped into the garage for tyres today, hopefully they will last longer than that, but they were for the womans car so who knows.. sweet vid, i love watching a car being mercilessly thrashed..
  14. the kretschmaria took out a large limb which took out half the crown on its way down.. looked like a bombsite, just got to figure out what to do with the dbh 6ft stem now.. client wants it cut to 3ft high as a feature.
  15. first one found lurking in the yard followed by the others all in one garden surrounding a monster beech that failed.
  16. just change all the fluids/filters, check everything, especially bootfloor area, sills, innerwings, check when timingbelt was done and it should last for years.. what am i saying? its scrap man, i'll give you £100 for it..
  17. extra stress on the conrod/crank with faster acceleration i think was the excuse, to me it makes it more betterer an stuff..
  18. they are a pain in the rs, the first time i filled one up it sheared off in my hand.. thankfully the local stihl dealer usually has a boxfull in stock..
  19. used a makita for about 5yrs with a robin engine, never any probs, starts second pull everytime, treat it to a carb kit every year or so and it just keeps going.. unlike the stihl i bought new 12mth ago that takes up to 10pulls to get going and dies after ticking over for 30secs..(nice reach though)
  20. someone once told me it might shorten the lifespan of the saw.. but who cares when its cutting fast..?
  21. i use subbies a fair amount when needed, i'll take your number and keep it.. Ed.
  22. looks like a bolette, i'll be shot down in a minute as a fungkicker by somebody who is funghugger no doubt.. are there any trees near it?
  23. always worth modding for more performance, my 460 was a bit disapointing when new, but 3mths in i got the stihl exhaust mod minus the spark arrester and bigger dogs, the difference was amazing, revs up faster, cuts quicker and when started at 8am makes people really upset with the extra noise..
