  1. Had to google it to see what phone that is:confused1: And discovered that it's the one I've been using now for over a year - which must be a record. Not very trendy, has very few features, camera lense scratched, screen also, but the most important feature is that it make good calls, which are clear and the ring tone and vibrate are strong. So if you want a pouncey, girly, shinny gadget rich machine get something else. If you want a durable phone get the Samsung extreme b2100:thumbup: Nearly forgot - if your ideal combination is a durable phone with a great torch then "Jackpot"
  2. Got my Stihl Blower raffle prize last week donated by M & H Arb Services. Many thanks Mark for getting it over to us in Northern Ireland. That'll be staying in the bosses vehicle:thumbup:
  3. What about maybe making the company title block a bit stronger. Different type face, colour or size. Its got potential. I have to admit, I wouldn't know where to start in making a website despite how easy everyone keeps telling me it is. My contribution to our one was to get the pictures and the blurb together - then I hand it over to our web guy and he types in the strange numbers and letter codes and it appears on the screen - must be some sort of black magic!
  4. "Partnerships are regarded as a single entity for VAT purposes. It is unwise for a husband and wife to maintain that they are trading separately without HMRC’s agreement in writing." The above is copied from the HMRC online VAT guide - might be worth a read in full. Now where's that fan - splat:001_huh:
  5. I got a demo (at the IOG Saltex) of some battery powered kit made by Pellenc which is disturbuted by Etesia the Italian mower company. Excellent working time per battery, you can get pole saws, etc as attachments and ligth to use. Biggest against is the cost - we are talking 400-500 per battery from memory. Google the Etesia web site, I think they are on it. This machines are really in a different league compared to the small rechargeable battery stuff from Stihl and Echo.
  6. Ah, you see the rest of us watched Countryfile from Northern Ireland last Sunday and saw how they make Hurley sticks from the base of Ash (Hence the user name) so we all know what he means:biggrin:
  7. This is one of those difficult ones to be sure about as you point out. We've only ever run our machines on Sainsburys fuel - all our vans have Sainsburys fuel cards so it's the only place we ever get fuel. We run about 40 Stihl machines and the only problem we've had is with the new 4mix ones - but I dont know if it is fuel related. The dealer seems to think we should be running on their "Special" Stihl two stroke oil and not Oregan which we have always used. I'd be interested to here other peoples opinions also
  8. We got ours with our Volvo Digger from the dealer. Brian Scott Engineering also make them. I just had a look and there are three for sale on Gum tree over here starting at £100 They always come with machines in NI whenever you buy or hire - they are a bit hard on the pins and bushes with all the sideways forces they create
  9. We normally use what we would call a "shuck bucket". Possibly also known as a ditching bucket. On this machine it would be about4-5ft wide and very shallow. It takes a big gob of material but as the bucket is so shallow it doesn't stick in it. Problem is though because of the width of the digging edge it doesn't exert much force along the leading edge (which is good because it also can't force the material into the corners of the bucket and compact it) so if the ground is very compacted you may need to loosen it first.
  10. Sweet tractor, very clean. You've even got clear blue skies above you. Truly a perfect day:thumbup:
  11. I take it you get an assessor, NPTC registration and the cert of competence test carried out. Also a centre handling fee to process and coordinate everything.
  12. Hi Scot Had a look at the link. Never heard of this one before. I hope yours is self limiting and not extreme. Thanks for posting All the best Gareth
  13. I'm sure you must be wondering why you posted in the first place. For what it's worth, I think you are doing it for the right reasons with good intend and that's what matters. You aren't going to bankrupt anyone for clearing a couple of roads and you might get spin off work in the long term. You are doing it in a local area, so you are helping you neighbours - it matters not they they might not do the same - we all don't have to be miserable. As a business move, we all throw a few lost leaders out once in a while and as they say "its the thought that counts" and what comes around goes around - I,m with you on this one. Ask me another day and I might have totally changed my opinion, but it's the weekend and I'm in a good mood today.
  14. And circus wagons - do you qualify?
  15. Started reading this one last year - An amazing blog that puts all others in the shade - additive and frightening
  16. Hi Chris

Yes Niall is still with me although he has just gone over to Merrist Wood to do the 9 week intensive Chainsaw course - started on Monday past. Excellent guy and very skilled worker. I've told him to get onto Arbtalk. Maybe he will now he's at Merrist with other Arb types!

  17. That'll be 10 miles down the road - Thanks
  18. Eric Hunters Tools or a trip to the mainland (Ireland)
  19. Yeah, you need to watch those guys from across the sea, they'd pinch anything that's not nailed down.
  20. Wise move. Commercial sites can change very quickly and you can be chopped at the stroke of a pen. A spread of smaller jobs over a wider client base gives you as much security as you can get being self employed:001_smile:
  21. Great attachments on this site. Might get some prices. Would prefer it made for me and tested incase there's any problems later. Thanks
  22. Where do you get those grabs from. I've been trying to get one for our 2t Volvo digger? Thanks
  23. I think NPTC are cautious about generating too many assessors as the process to them is costly (technical updates, verifications etc etc). There also needs to be a demand for new/additional assessors in an area before the process will start.
  24. There are too many unknowns about this saw. Heavy duty bar and hardened chain surely must suggest it been used for hard cutting work. A load of chains and other bars which we haven't been shown in pictures so can only guess their condition. Wrap around handle, not normal uk spec. Honestly, I'd be wanting this saw for around £300 max and even at that it's probably a gamble I'd wouldn't take.
