  1. No bite, would have liked to but my fungi id is much to be learned. I Hoped it would have been as I like pepper. The fungi contained numerous maggots so put me off slightly:blushing:
  2. Thought so, I will try & get back to the place one day soon. The tree is co-dom with aprox 40% removed from the stem with fungi upon it. decay is present up the stem with woodpecker activity present but not appearing to be structurally significant at present. Sorry will have to cut short as I have just punched out a window at some one & cut my hand up a tad:blushing:
  3. Oh also while I'm at it, Chalciporus piperatus?
  4. I found this in among some dead ivy aprox 4.5m on a scots pine last week. Any ideas? Old dry & not great pic's too.. Asked the client to look out for more fruiting bods around the same area now the dead ivy has been removed. Not sure if it was attached to the trunk or a dead stub above the area I found it. Thanks for any help as I have not built up a good bunch of fungi ref books as yet.
  5. Thanks for your opinion on air bags. I will check out plated weights ect & see if I am just chasing my tail as I suspect I am from some stuff I have read.
  6. Ok. will look at a 5.5 tonne at some point as I have not seen one. Was just guess as I thought the transit weighs less unladen? More research needed on mbh.
  7. I was under the impression that the chassis are over engineered for a 3.5ton, hence the heavy ulw. It makes sense though. Was just hopeful that this way could be a cheap way of doing things. Will keep looking into it for the mo. Or its barn doors n springs/airbags for me:001_rolleyes:
  8. I am after info on the pro's & con's of fitting bags as opposed to springs. The root I decide to take is based upon reply's I get as nobody I know has air bags fitted. I can drive a 7.5 but don't want the hassle of plates yet. I will look into all the other aspects of uprating the class when I have an idea that this will be cost effective to do as the 1st step. While on about it, if & is it a classification rise to 4 ton dose this mean brake uprating & plate tests ect. All of which I am trying to avoid if poss. I didn't have the £ to buy a larger motor at the time I got this one. Also most of my jobs were small enough to cut down on the back with hire of myself as a subi climber most of the time to firms. I have found that 959 kg of chip ain't alot. Any time an over loaded motor drives about they not only risk huge fines (to the driver!) anyone who drives employed or other wise is liable & also run the risk of insurance invalidation! Plenty of employers out their turning a blind eye to their employes pocket & license endorsements I would think if caught driving over weight. Not that I haven't & most likely still do..
  9. Fracture cut. OOPS:001_tongue: A fine habitat wound on the edge of a field. Didn't intend it though:blushing: But turned out to be a good thing for the area.
  10. Not sure yet as am undecided as yet. A garage near where I am at the moment says they can supply & I will fit.
  11. Some pic's taken of a memorable climb & day for all that were their. The carving was made from a piece of the upper crown that had failed due to storm damage & was subsequently removed on the day. Amazing day with some of the most amazing & influential people I know:thumbup:
  12. Very true. I would not advocate such behavior. I want to know if these are any good as I believe it may be a cheap way to gaining extra payload. If people choose not to up the weight class of their motor they also risk insurance invalidation if involved in an accident let alone fines incurred. Thanks for bringing the point up. I should have in my original post:blushing:
  13. Thanks gustharts for info & pic of what looks like the sort of thing I am after. A swivel would be grand on my crab knot set up.
  14. Great narration as with all of your vid's. Good to see a vid of pruning work rather than what can for some be a more interesting lowering or crash out dismantle. More of this sort of stuff at easy reach for those that are & want to learn that may not have such articulate explanations of the whats & why in their grasp is a big step in the right direction imo
  15. Cheers:thumbup: Plenty to rub my hands together about on that site..Oh I feel my bank balance lightening already:laugh1:
  16. Cheers lads. I hear they are easy to fit so I may give them a go.
  17. I have been using my tree motion with the supplied ring for a while. When the replaceable cord wore out just of late I did away with the ring & have been using one of those swing cheek pulleys instead. I love it. My only prob is that I would like a smaller pulley that would keep my knot system closer than the dmm encapsulated solid one dose.I am not sure that the forces imposed on a swing cheek are as permissible on a loler inspection pass ect. Thoughts on this? Are their any small pulleys out their that swing cheek or encapsulated with side load swl ect?
  18. So I want to be able to put more on my van. What are peoples opinions on airbags as opposed to a few more leaf springs? My main concern is that the weight transfer is to the body? Can they be removed & fitted from one to another motor as a pro to getting some? The ability to raise & lower the psi, is that useful?
  19. An ash reduction I did for someone a little while ago. Had branch failure around 12 yrs ago & gano spp(root not stem prob I know) was spotted as far as I know then. She was given a heavy reduction back then. Called back to fell or reduce again. Not much heaver on the over all reduction as she had not put on all that much in 12 yr but significant weight was removed as well as trying to leave some photosynthetic production growth. Not sure from the pics of the potential strike zone of failure of the tree. But from what I can see a hard reduction & management plan put in place is the way I would go.
  20. A tree of hell then by all accounts as described by paul in a previous quote:001_smile: A tree I saw the other day had a Ganoderma spp bracket present & some savage cavity's on the stems further up the tree. Good reactive growth on wound wood that I could see. Dose anyone know the sort of life span these triffed trees can get up to?
  21. Found a copulating couple of young beech trees at it in bucks
  22. Nice one Paul for taking the time to listen & act, react & improve on all posts n threads that have qu the AA & your commitment to improving the industry we all care about:thumbup: Top fella
  23. Are they native to the Americas? Hit hard & always come back
