  1. You need to understand tree species first, and the growth rate, then develop your age class, Y- Young , M- Mature , OM over mature, V- Veteran , Develop your own stance as long as people can understand your interpretation. But remember , i think this is whats troubling you, eg M - Mature , Sp Silver birch 30 years, against say a 30 year Oak which would be Y - Young as a M - Mature Oak could be 100 years old + hope that helps.

    Dolmar

For years, not knowing that Dolmar were still made , i thought Stihl - Husqvarn were the only choice, and to be fair they were great saws, but the last few years they have not lived up to there reputation , eu regs trying to comply with emissions and each other manufactures concepts has only produced rubbish saws. There is as far as i can see a great opportunity for Dolmar in the uk, as long as they don't try and compete with the more modern known brands. They still need to work on a reliable topper, i use a 338xp as a topper , and will try a 201 next time . as far as i have seen first hand the new Husky topper is total rubbish, thats from people who climb trees, not concept climb.

Hi Shavey, i have the 115 and 7910 both nice saws, well the 7910 is i think the best saw ever for power to weight , great alternative to a 66 when climbing, i have mostly had Stihl in the past but the last ones did not last that well, so very pleased with the change. I liken the 115 to a ms260 , good little trimming saw, i did get a good deal on them , and postage was 10 euros, both 2014 saws.

  8. I did walk into that one, but saying that would the description have used the word massive or small , wide open question and yes my thoughts were the same as yours, but hey ho, hes not posted very much, so on the top side, lets say veteran P . sargentii very steep slope, v long drag up hill and around a corner with a glass house beneath. £500. but it could be done for less with a Jo beau m500 , located next to the main task, chip stays close by, £350.
  9. Should of asked, P. X subhirtellar or P. sargentii

  23. Why be so rude, i can think of much, much worse things an arbtalk member could do, !!!!!!!
  24. Just my view, Polygon, circle, or box, and the new 5837 does not really account for much, lets understand the growth and development of the tree first, if its worthy of retention ??? Root morphology and function and development in relation to a specific given site first, and the changes that mite happen, then lets look at soil type, then lets look at ground level conditions, loamy now compaction then, then consider root severance, historical and what the developer intends to do. In short, trees no longer are really a constraint .
  25. No, that was just bench mark pricing, its starting to appear on websites so i just set mine at a price i can do, aerial inspections would cost more, two men, as you know, full spec would always be given within any report or survey, i try to simplify things, no harm in recommending an aerial inspection as part of say crown clean and report.? the days of big money are gone, every ones a tree surgeon , expert, !!! but when the 'do-do' hits the fan how many have actually got the qualifications and whats more important Professional Indemnity. Take a look and Google a bit, if you shop around you will be shocked at what you find. Its all for peanuts.
