  1. I got some of the arbormax ascend in the new year and so far i like them a lot. They are the most comfy trousers I've ever had in over 20years of doing this job. I'm only a light user these days (part time climber doing work in gardens) but they seem to be lasting ok. I don't know how long they would last if you where working in really bad brambles all the time. They're not as tough as pfaner gladiators and the like, but you can't have every thing in one pair of light pants. I had them custom made to fit me as i couldn't get anything big enough in the uk. customer service was really good and it didn't take very long to arrive in the uk. total cost including import tax and delivery was about £230. I guess with the weak pound that will have changed now.
  2. I've got 3 saws a 200t, 560 & 066 covers all the bases I would say. I run my own tree business.
  3. see them quite often here in suffolk, they seem to love hollow trees.
  4. As a business owner operator I think its all down to personal choice. I can set up my business so I work 250 days per year and earn £100 per day. Or I can work 100 days a year for £250 per day. Its the same out come but I know what I would opt for, you just have to decide how you run your life and how you plan to hit the goals you set yourself. As for business owners earning only 8k per year I think they either doing a tax fiddle or they only work 2 or 3 days month.
  5. Morning, Sometimes i find laburnum dust can make your lips feel a little tingly. I'd wear a dust mask for piece of mind if nothing else. I often wear one when grinding anyway especially in dry weather when the dust can get up a bit. cheers Dan
  6. You just need to read her employment history on wiki. Then you know she'll always side with big business's and banks. She has no interest in environmental issues.
  7. Sounds like to many years of cutting and holding big lumps of tree have stretched your arms. Or maybe you shouldn't carry big logs on your head.
  8. I feel your pain mate. I'm sick of making do with too small stuff. Try fjallraven for well sized clothes, it costs a fortune but lasts well. I've had a pair of their trousers for working in for 12yrs now and just needed to fix the zip. Then again for me its length rather than width that i struggle with.
  9. Mulberry I think
  10. Many years ago I did a job dead wooding trees at an outdoor concert venue, they were practicing singing opera whilst we worked with hand saws only. A really chilled couple of days swinging about in the sun.
  11. All great advice, also try singing/humming an uplifting song when you feel jittery. I find the star wars theme gets me going.
  12. there is a u90 ag on ebay at £23k
  13. Thanks Stephen, We don't always get good signal round here but I'm lucky that I work with some really good guys. I think it's important to have a well rounded team so you can try and cover each others weakness'. I know if I worked with carbon copies of myself it would end badly most days. I got a lot of good stuff like method statement outlines and copies of generic risk assessments off here, as well as info on truck and chipper reviews. I know its not very exciting but it helps a lot. Also looking pics of big shinny kit and trucks is ace of course.
  14. I didn't start a thread when I started up for myself two and half years ago, but I used arbtalk to find out lots of things that I had pretty much no idea about and asked questions of people on the site. It helped a great deal. So thanks to the arbtalk community. The business is doing well and although I've had minor set backs as long as you keep momentum its ok I think. If you're seen out and about working, handing out leaflets etc. Or just talking to and meeting people the word gets around and things fall into place. Dan
  15. Looks good, I love my dyna. Maybe I could get a lift kit for it and some big wheels. Just so it looks cool!
  16. I've got a Dyna. It's ace for getting in tight spots, unreal turning circle and carries a load very well. Yes very tight in the cab but if you don't go far like me it doesn't really matter to much and I am 6ft 8 so everything is cramped for me anyway. As for reliability it seems good so far, I broke a rear spring (apparently not unusual on Dynas) and needed a new water pump so far in two years. Also watch out for rust on the tipper body. I think the new shape cabstars are much roomier inside but i haven't spent loads of time in one.
  17. weeping mullberry maybe

  21. its a mac book air, just wanted to set my email on the mail bit of the computer.
  22. Hi all I've got a new lap top and it wants to know my server address to sign me into my email. How do i find it out? Ive looked on google and my poor little tree cutters brain can't make sense of the answer. Can anyone out there translate computer boffin talk into tree man speak? any help much appreciated. Cheers Dan
  23. Hi Jon, I've got a 16kw woodwarm with a back boiler. we love it, it keeps a very old draughty house toasty.
  24. Ha ha. You know him pretty well then. It's worth an extra 10 mile trip just so you don't have to talk to him.
  25. There's a woodchip place in Brandon, it has to be clean and the guy moans about whatever you bring him. Then moans more if you don't bring him any. Dan
