  1. we tested some of the 540xps - i hope they have fixed a few things on em as all 6 saws went down after 3 months and all suffered niggling breakages and damages before they gave up the ghost...........they should have got a ms200t and painted it orange then there would be no issue. Me im gonna hold on for another 6months - i'm sure a bucket load of returned saws will soon get them fixing all the problems they should have.
  2. found the x fit to be crap - crotch always goes - but once you stitch it up again its ok - almost worth going over the stitching before they split. cant comment on the new pfanner jobs - but in the past the galdiators which i wore in winter were good. My last pair were the Husqvarna tech extreem (i only where front protection) and they were the tits! super light took a year of abuse fairly well and would probably get more life out of them if i spent some time cleaning em and fixing the holes caused by wire fences and the like. Super light weight, nice vents highly recommend em if you want to fork out some dollar as they aint cheep. Just got a brand new pair of SIP innovation 2 not tried em in the field as it were yet but the fits good and they feel light and they were about half the price of the Husqvarna tech extreems
  3. what was wrong with em? were they the P'pros or the others - i've heard bad reviews on some of their other boots but after getting more than 2 years out of each of my last 3 pairs im tempted to stick with em. Though the weight is a bit of an issue - sarted getting plantar fasciitis so i could be tempted to go a bit lighter in the foot department (as well as bin my old steel gaffs) - but thats for a different thread now back to the boots....)
  4. with the extremes how does the 'claw' element hold up? i dont think haix think too much about the weight..... nor do i
  5. time for some new boots - used Haix PP's for donkeys, will probably get some more of the same, but interested to here in what folk think about others that are available on the market at the mo.
  6. A work mate came up with this un today - 'If a fat girl falls over in the woods and there is nobody there to see it do the trees laugh? - If at first you don't succeed Skydiving isn't for you' 'Boss' - Can't isn't a word I use in my vocabulary nor should you 'Employee' - But how do you say "you can't say can't"
  7. Just seen you say july.....bring lots of Mosquito spray, and a net.
  8. Iwould be walking but my foot is nakcered aint it....canoeing this summer i reckon. Hoga Kusten trail up past sundsvall is nice. Bring some mosquito spray, Or try and hit it later in the year (end of august early sep is good but can be chilly). Abisko is supposed to be good, have yet to make the trip up there.
  9. I swear there is a seperate place on this forum for accidents and near misses but i cant find it so i'll post this here. Coroner: Tree trimmer killed in 60-foot fall | Oconee/Pickens News - WYFF Home
  10. Sherril have released an email to people who just purchased one - here's a link to it on a forum.... Just Received This E-mail From SherrillTree About Petzl Zig-Zag Failure - The Dripline
  11. TreeClimber.eu - Arborist Forum - SKT Baumpflege • Thema anzeigen - ACHTUNG WICHTIG!!!! UNFALL MIT ZIGZAG!!!! you need google translate as its in German.
  12. just been trying to look into it - its just a rumour and i want to find out if its true. There are currently people saying its true and folk saying it bollocks put out to create bad press - so im in no way saying its happened. So dont panic!
  13. rumours are abound that some one got spanked when their zig zag failed? Any one got any more on this?
  14. Its important to make sure the boss isnt taking the piss too much though, which depends on your boss, but its tricky as blokes who are out of work are willing to work for less just to get the job which means companies can quote even lower forcing the next lot who try to get a job to work for lower wages so companies can then quote lower, and thus the arse fell out of the industry - If your boss is a decent bloke who you can be upfront with and wont talk bullpoo to you can probably be a bit more direct, but if he's an arse be abit more subtle.
  15. Alot dpends on the the main company on the contract - i've worked on and off the rail alot for the last 3 years - It can be relaxed pace at times but other times you have to crack on. Taking big bits when needed but then also making sure as hell nothing falls on the lines or track. There are rules and stuff that are made up by people who have no idea of how to do the job and planning is often useless....but you get paid by the hour and you just deal with the other stuff. Sometimes it gets a bit dull with just taking the weight off spruce trees for the ground fellers, ups and downs really. I hate it and love it....
  16. Mike, you up in Sundsvall yet? bit nippy up there aint it!
  17. what are the Asplund / Tree scape like to work with? might beheading over to NZ later in the year and could do with picking up some pennies whilst im there to fund general antics.
  18. you can buy a lot of friction cord for that money...........the longevity of the device is going to be a key issue. But i am tempted....
  19. they aint so much fun to carry through the forest all day though, but are useful in the right situation, quicker than a winch, but its easy to get greedy with em and if the angle they are set at is too steep they can lift the tree and pop the hinge, i do like my wedges though right now the wood is frozen so they tend to get spat out so the stalp is good to use, can also use it to help push out hung up trees.
  20. your right its a JD1270 - we are meant to do use what we call the safety corner cut, bore the hinge and come back leaving the last quarter as holding, get the final ok, and then a quick cut and scarper, though there has been instances of over keen machine drivers busting this last quarter so we tend to just fan cut. a lot depends on the trees and the situation. THough now we have to winch the machine assisted trees over now which takes ages...
  21. Its very annoying that imports of ash were allowed to continue for so long even after all the problems with the ash in Europe! I know you should never discuss politics or religion if you don't wish to offend but.... I cant help feel like this is the result of the 'Business and profits before all else' attitude of the current government, whom - please correct me if im wrong - weren't exactly elected into power.... Why is it that the persons in power who are given the information they need fail to act until its too late! Is it that they are just too short sighted? It never ceases to amaze me how moronic the UK government can be. Back to the ash trees, latest figures from the FC are Confirmed findings at 21 November 2012: Nursery sites - 17 Recently planted sites - 84 Wider environment, e.g. established woodland - 121 Total: 222 something tells me this is going to have the same devastating effect on the landscape as DED
  22. i asked her to back up her argument - but she said she couldn't remember every thing but her tutor said so and he's really smart (but as far as i know hasn't worked on the tools full time but his dad once wrote a book on apple trees). I got irked by the 'what i say is fact attitude' that she new more about trees than folk who have been in the industry a decade or more but was then unable to back up her statement.....' but she made me dinner so all is forgiven.
  23. alright - so there is this work experience girl - who has told me that under no circumstances should we prune trees in winter, and that the best time to prune tree is in summer..... any one wish to add their 50p's worth to this as i'm of the school that the best time for most trees to be pruned in when they are dormant, preferably just before bud burst, (though not all species)
  24. when i did my shoulder in - it was a few weeks before i got to see some one - the chiro crunched it good - instant relief and movement, phisio and massage for the long haul to recovery. but seriously when she cracked my shoulder, man that was a relief, the fact that she is Swedish and hot as hell is a bonus! I find sports therapist are good, as they treat active people, who wish to remain active.
