Nice tall tree there Reg. Are your heights based on rope lengths? Or educated guesses? I find with the tall firs, if its amongst other trees it often looks shorter than it is, especially if you cant get far from the base. Haven't had to rig wood all summer. Cheers.

Looks like a good summer Reg! I've thoroughly enjoyed my BC summer. Our trees maybe aren't quite as tall, with the heavy winters in Whistler, but still regularly top 130ft. I should try and make a video next summer.

I would like to see a bib and brace offered by someone tree work related. No drip down your waist then! But to answer the original question. Elasticated waist, a zip at least to just below the knee, some way of getting to trouser pockets, good reinforcement in key areas. As a tall skinny guy, I would like to see them cut in a variety of lengths for all waist sizes. -
Its a mix of felling in the woods, on a fire prevention project for Burley boys, and residential stuff for the local firm. Tree work up here shuts down over winter, but they dont stop in any of the major citys.

I dont know anything about applying as a Kiwi i'm afraid. I'm in Whistler currently. Works different to UK and NZ for sure. Paddy

I got my Police Certificate though the police website, easy as, it costs I think £45 and takes a couple of weeks. The IEC system is a pain, make sure you are on your computer when it goes live, they usually go in less than half an hour. Good luck.

Start with a piece of cord 2 mtrs long, you will probably find it needs to be slightly shorter, and keep at least an inch of tail sticking out of your knots.

Cheers, yeh that sounds like a tough day for a rope. Fly out 2 weeks tomorrow, although still not sure where we are going to settle. Have spoken to a few outfits, and The Burley Boys seem keen which sounds promising.

Looks nice there. When you are zip lining the logs, are you using the same set up as you use on brush? Or bigger slings and a pulley on the line? And tensioned down to a device on a tree? Cheers Paddy.

Well not sure thats what I'm coming for Reg, hope you arent there for that either! Its not my first trip out there, wasnt in tree work the last time. But tree's have taken me around the world abit, and BC is next on the list. Not on my own, me and the girlfriend, but there's nothing tying us to anywhere. Cheers for the help anyways, best book a flight.

Coming out on a Work Visa, with a view to staying. Sounds like it could be difficult, contracting especially. Certainly good to know before hand. I was swayed to the island because of its climate. Maybe thats not a good reason. Being on a work visa hopefully means I can have a try with other places too I guess. Will certainly give Victoria a try though. Always up for a beer cheers.

Thanks Stuart. Like I said, mostly due to the politics etc I favour the smaller firms. I see you are in Squamish, I wouldnt have thought there was much in the way of tree work there, quite a drive to the next towns. Do you get up to Whistler for work? I will contact Davey and Bartletts but hope to have some other options to explore when I get there. I was intending on bringing all my kit, whats the cost of gear out there vs the uk?

Thanks Reg, I have looked at both Bartletts and Davey, I just seem to get on better with the smaller firms. I contract climb here, but I think a steady job out there will be the way forward. How does the industry fluctuate through the year? I did live in Van for a few months a few years ago and liked it but I just really fancy the island. Cheers for the help.

Hi all, Just received my Canadian Work Visa, valid for the next year. So now looking for work opportunities. I am an experienced climber, currently contract climbing, but looking for employment out there really. Well versed in all tree work. have worked around the UK, and spent a fair while in NZ. I am ideally looking for work on Vancouver Island, but open to other places. Any help or pointers very welcome. Thanks Paddy

As suspected. Good stuff. Nope I gave up looking once it was drained, just left the bungs out, will try and work it out when its dry sometime. If you ever find out let me know. Cheers.
