  1. Hats off to AWG volunteer and task team manager Tommy Plummer on this one, he took the bull by the horns and this is the result. The groups feedback as with most things was essential, but furthermore, your feedback is even more important. Thanks for the positive comments lads,
  2. Several months ago the AWG; AA's, Arborists Working Group, thought that it would be a good idea to produce some generic form of site communication for arboriculture... The idea was further confirmed by a thread in Arbtalk Re. hand signals for arb, which seemed to suggest that it was a good idea in principle. Since this date, volunteers of the AWG have been producing and carrying out some tests as to what we felt were appropriate hand signals. There will of course be more experienced practitioners around that do not require nor need any form of additional communication other than the one they have developed within their company, and therefore use on a daily basis. However, these hand signals have been developed with the cross referencing, where possible, with current HSE and crane operation guidelines for communication on sites where shouting is neither, effective or courteous. Please find attached (I hope I have done it successfully) the guidance we have produced, the guidance is to be downloadable through the AA's 'help for arborists' links on the AA website, and it is intended for installation into your arboricultural truck; health and safety folder, or on notice boards in mesh rooms. Wherever you deem it would receive the desired recognition and awareness. New entrants, either into the industry, or your company, can therefore use this guidance to quickly come up to scratch with a recognised form of site communication. We now feel that this guidance document is ready for testing in the wider industry, and would very much appreciate you trialling the hand signals document and reporting back to the AWG with your constructive comments. We hope to amend the document, if required, and have it available for distribution at the arbshow and Arbfest so your feedback would be much appreciated. Should you have any additional comments or wish to contact directly then please email me at, [email protected] Thankyou for taking the time to read this thread and the AWG looks forward to your response. 3. Has arbtalk got that petty that everybody is on their guard against being slated for being misconstrued as insulting someones character. Or is it the facebook mentality that appears to be drifitng into society.. Seems some people just like to highlight negatives at any given opportunity. We actually no longer have the freedom of speech anymore
  4. There will be a blend of topics being spoken about, and a variety of demonstrations, there is a previous thread related to this named; AA new event, that had a bit of back ground to the creation and drivers for this event. There needs to be a demand for up tut north events and I think there is. Paul has attached the booking form above and places are selling now. I think the social side to the first evening sounds promising too, bit of a ho-down knees up going on, sore heads a plenty I hope for the second day. Any body got a yard of ale they can bring lol. It will be like the queens jubilee up north for AA techies return home, roll out the bunting.
  5. Dan This may seem a silly question, but im guessing you are the owner of the website, climberarborist.com. Yeah????? I was on this the other day by chance and its quality, fair play to you for taking the time out to do the vids you have on there, was rather informative if i may say so myself
  6. Someone has just asked me if chapter 8 and the law it pertains to NRSWA?? changes at the end of may, and all previous certification is defunct, and new photo id is required with reassessment; which isnt major, but the defunct previous certs part is. Do any of you have any further knowledge on this, as the internet is drawing a blank? I have mentioned to said contractor that I will put a thread up in arbtalk, so he will be muchas gratias for your opinions, and me too. thanks Jaime
  7. Haha, Ill leave that in your trusty hands as moderator to alter then.
  8. Based on the fact that the two sexes can not be together in the boat. the two woman row over, 1 stays the other rows back, the two men row over, one stays the other rows back, the lone woman rows over, the man rows back, then both men row over.
  9. IC Trees, I volunteer for the AAs Arborist Working Group and am intending on raising this as a potential topic for the AA to produce, to enable simple downloading from the help for arborists section on their website. I have my own system but am looking at gathering as many methodologies as possible to try and produce something that is adaptable and implementable for the 'majority' of company owners. If you feel that what you have produced would benefit this task, and do not mind your system being used to influence the final product, please feel free to email me a copy at [email protected] This invitation goes out to all persons willing to offer their hard thought out systems. Hopefully, creating a suitable and valuable system/sheet for our peers to benefit from, will assist and prevent fellow arbs from finding themselves in awkward 'you said this and that' situations. Thanks, Jaime

  13. Euc vid, made me want to do a big takedown, and get adrenalined up. The party vid, made me want to customise the 4x4, and tare it up for this summer break, it was either the truck that got me aroused with that matt black bumper all tango and cash styly, or the music, but some thing got me twitchy about how serious we can take life at times, them lads got it right on!!!! Fair play, im going out tomorrow night sod it!!! Cherry brandy here wecome
  14. i thought it was his boxette of cash in the attic he watched
  15. How do you like your eggs in the morning..... dropped.ewwwwww
  16. She could drop her guts for all id care, i wouldnt kick her out of bed for adultery!!!!!!!!!
  17. Just read this whole thread to see what the crack is, for the record and to supplement my meagre efforts, after each set i stood up straight and went back down immediately after, probably 2-3 sec break max. will try it the easy way later, hehe.. ten seconds seems like a good while to be resting to me. hmmmm
  18. Been doing commando get fit training last 3months, managed 9.5 although the last one i got to the top and then collapsed, must admit, thought would manage 11-12 maybe. Still at 16st,11(and a half) lbs pretty chuffed with that. My mouths like a sandy flipflop now so going to get a drink. Crikey the more i type im getting dizzy and feeling sick, cheese pickle sandwich straight after wouldnt have helped. Nice challenge that, I like it!!! whats the record so far then?
  19. Except for the obvious reasons, wouldnt you just love to spend every day with her with that way of looking at things. Think of the fun you could have, I was thinking how much fun it would be to have someone with that I.Q in the work van with you, but that would be dangerous and life threatening... Bet she would fetch tartan paint to paint the skyhooks. classic. Great find!!!
  20. Just to reiterate, this is a free event. A gathering of people relevant to the control and awareness program proposed for the eradication/containment of this pest. It is hoped that as many contractors or industry related people as poss turn out for this, to broaden the net on the eradication. Control measures etc will be discussed on site id imagine tom. hopefully a good representation from arbtalk will enable us all to get a more up to date briefing of the pest population via feedback. Its to far for me to travel, so any feedback would be great thanks Tony
  21. Or, to be fair, save peppering the headoffice lines for info, email me [email protected] for further contact details.
  22. Dear all, Have been asked to circulate this info, please feel free to contact aa for further advise or info Re. this event. Regards, Jaime Bray ASIAN LONGHORNED BEETLE Event 12 April 2012.pdf
  23. Turn Up with a full tank of diesel in both chipper and truck, then ask for it to bd filled at the end of the shift, none of this heres twenty quid mate stuff, and charge on top of that fuel- 250-300 a day; climber, truck and chipper, thats not to bad, but if some numpty puts a nail or bit of iron through your machine, you know whos going to get the bill dont you, YOU!!!! I personally do not agree with this sort of contracting, basically their asking you to run under their banner but with your gear, Rubs me up the wrong way, but thats why I could never have a partner in business. Day rate the lot, make it so they want you for your climbing but make the use of your equipment expensive enough for them to not want it, and so much so that you can pay for the inevitable repairs when this situation becomes the norm
  24. If I remember correctly, they are obliged to give you an answer within 48 hours of your enquiry, that may be the grey area though, the point at which they start looking, never known a council do that before, id play hardball, and call their bluff, tel them the trees under iminent danger, and you need to know. Thats not good in my opinion, wrong for them to be so awkward!!!!
  25. Bump!! The AWG now has a team very active on this thread, if you feel that you could offer something to contribute to the production of this guidance doc then please feel free to email [email protected] Any help as always with AA matters is greatly appreciated. Thanks all, Jaime
