  1. Big Fell, The manufacturer of the multi catch squirrel trap is Roguard, it will hold about half a dozen at a time, if you want this one, you can have it for the postage, CJ
  2. Ah, thanks for that
  3. O/T sorry to butt in here, but message for Lindisfarnecharcoal, did you get my pm to you last night, I have a feeling something may not be working correctly, I have sent 3 pm's in last 24hrs, but my sent messages say none. Once again sorry for the intrusion, CJ
  4. I'm afraid bumble bees are not protected, although I do agree, they should be.
  5. Love the bit where they're running from the falling tree, wonder what LANTRA would make of that
  6. We had a wild colony in old Oak as well here on the estate, the old keeper said it had been there when he first came to Hales, over 40yrs ago, 3 yrs ago it died out, he thought due to varroa. I'm glad there are still some wild colonies surviving.
  7. If anyone wants a crane/winch type trailer, I know where there is one for sale, currently horse drawn but would be a small job to fit a hitch for tractor. 4 ton winch, 3 ton load capacity, Dumfries area.
  8. Load and forwarder combined, 3 tonnes. Someone once asked me what sort of horse I had, I said "a Sherman tank on legs", true eh!
  9. Yessssssssssss! I was just thinking you've been quiet lately, I will be down sometime this summer, so I'll drop in for a beer
  10. Yes they can, she can back it up if empty, not with a load on, but a pair would, although not uphill. It's pretty good for turning though, 10yds diameter and it will come around no bother.
  11. No worries , I did'nt take it as a slight, I still have it kicking about somewhere, if I dig it out I'll let you know.
  12. The horse ain't for sale though:biggrin:
  13. You can get multi catch traps, I have tried them, preferred the single catch tunnel traps meself.
  14. I have to say i have never caught a hedgehog in one of my squirrel traps, so I either set them in the right place, and only bait with whole maize, or probably because we have very few hedgehogs around here, the badgers have eaten them all, (but thats another story). Also, I would not set kill traps in areas where the Red is still in existence.
  15. Bumble bees all die off in the autumn/winter anyway, just like wasps. The exception is the queens which will find their own little spot to hibernate and start again with a new nest next spring, cut the rest of the tree down, late autumn, no bother.
  16. Dean, yes had noticed it, I would use the same, but I guess most people would'nt know about it and would end up taking pot shots because the beggar would'nt stop still, I too am a fan of tunnel traps, Fenn Mk4 or Conibear 110's, as you say, job done
  17. I am currently thinning a stand of oak where the Squirrel damage is tremendous. You can not guarantee an "instant" death, even at point blank range, in a cage, the squig can move his head at the precise moment you squeeze the trigger and wounding is inevitable. I work for a little old lady who takes great delight in telling me how many she has caught and disposed of, in the water butt, I just tell her to not tell anyone she does that. The RSPCA are always looking for an easy prosecution, and if you get someone belligerently saying " yes, I drowned it, so what", they will do you. As mentioned earlier, a positive outcome for them brings publicity and money flowing in to the coffers. Personally, I feel the grey squirrel is just a rat with a fluffy tail, I would gladly see every one killed, bring back the reds.
  18. The dog owner will pull the branch down, get the dog to grip it and then the dog has a pulling match. The branch will give and then whip back if the dog relaxes, a bit like a spring, the dog fighting people will train their dogs on a tyre and spring to build up the muscle. The youth's that buy these dogs as status symbols will be trying to impress each other.
  19. Wiggins chances blown away, between Schleck and Contador now, My money is on the Spaniard.
  20. You're right, today is going to be pivotal to the overall result, but if Brad is still amongst them at the end of today, then my top three is Contador, Wiggins, Shleck
  21. Great thread and pics Josh, let me know if you see any ads for a horse logger, I'll be over like a shot,
  22. I hope Cavendish gets the sprinters jersey this year, his performances last year were pretty awesome too!
  23. I have thought for a while it was something I should be using, being as I am always trying to promote the low impact and "green" ethics of horse logging, I used the 2T for the first time today, ran perfectly in my saw and I am looking forward to using the 4T on the forwarder, as this is an area where I sometimes suffer, from fumes.
  24. Tuckingmill, very nice girl actually, far to nice for the likes of me, and apologies to anyone who thought my comments sexist, but being a youngster at the time, I did think a posh restaurant and a bottle of wine was sure to clinch it.
