  1. Is that to cover the interest on the pay day loan or to make sure you have the latest trainers and iphone.
  2. I am not one for being to scientific but thought this may interest some people thinking of using a kiln. The kindling was cut from the same plank 2 weeks ago. The 19% stuff was left in the bag on a shelf in a wind swept barn. The 31% has sat in my dry office and left on the wood burner when lit for 8 hrs. Now it strikes me the 31% stuff has had alot of energy around it while the barn was free. also surprising as the wood was 39% two weeks ago.
  3. I think the government may need to contract some big tractors and grain trailers soon to get some ash to the power stations.
  4. I should point out though the tractor is 160hp hired and almost new all on air brakes and the trailer has commercial brakes, not ag
  5. My trailer and tractor when loaded to 24 tonnes stops alot quicker than my discovery and trailer when it weighs 6 tonne.
  6. 2000 litres of logs with air space
  7. If they were not drunk and it was an accident its very sad and a nasty way to die and the families have my sympathy even if some excessive speed was involved . If they were drunk the roads are now that bit safer for our families lucky they did not involve anyone else I feel sorry for the emergency services who had to deeal with that.
  8. So if a message cant get through it will always come back to you ?. We did wonder if we lost anymore because we found a few weeks later we found aol still not letting them through hence the reason we now send them to another email.
  9. The official figure I was given 5 years ago was 1000kg of green beech will convert to 1.5 cu of loose loaded logs. I have never disproved this and when I get 17 tonnes in generally we fill 17 of our 1.5 cu metre bags. If nick delivers 24 tonnes and it is even partly seasoned you will get more volume therefore better value for money and fill more bags. Most cord merchants will sell by weight when wet and by volume when part seasoned. Ie your 17 tonne lorry may be full but may only weigh 14 tonnes the best way to get your cord is to get a weigh ticket. People like verdo and bedmax have there own weigh bridge and only pay what shows on the ticket so its in the merchants interest to get it there same day.
  10. send your self an enquiry we found aol was blocking ours now send them to outlook express.
  11. sell it to him in cubic feet he will think he has loads.
  12. I have the same meter as this works well but does not auto turn off so drains the expensive pp3 . When the low bat symbol is on accuracy goes out the window and it talks rubbish. I find the stihl one a bit optomistic by about 3 % dryer than it is.
  13. He is right though combi boilers are a pain in the arse. Unless you turn the tap on full they shut down half way through filling the sink and you have too dump the lot.
  14. So your asking if we know someone cheaper without letting on who you are using
  15. I think when I looked into it woodworm only migrate for 2 weeks of the year in the summer. So if you dont leave the wood left over from the winter in the house all summer you should not have a problem. Its useful to have the facts at hand in our new fantastic blame claim society.
  16. We have a sheppach ox 3 vertical splitter. On saturday in 6 hours we split 6 cu metres one man on the saw one man on the splitter but the rings are more 18 -24 in. We have a good lunch break and plenty of tea breaks and look forward to doing it next week. If I was to go flat out for an hour I would say 1.5 - 2 cu metres. If you pace yourself you can do an 8 hr day and not sit around for 3 recovering.
  17. Looks superb now it's finished. We have an extra coil spring fitted which works perfect. Not too hard when empty and never looks overloaded. One thing we did find because its fully loaded but does not sit down the brake pro portioning valve does not send enough to rear brakes. Also a lot of them are seized. If your brakes are not ideal worth a look first.
  18. We are are generally selling a 1000 bags at a time through the summer. You are competeing with half filled bags of soggy rotten treated pallet wood for a £1. Which a lot of people are happy with until they see what else you can get:biggrin: you need to allow customers enough margin to allow them to collect and still show a profit at the till.
  19. 6 inch logs take more time produce more saw dust and are more likely to turn into trash. I have a feeling there may be more in loose load as well. I find people ordering small logs don't want to pay a premium so we don't offer them. We stock hot max and kindling for small stoves.
  20. Get two years in front of the job and stay there let nature dry it for free. Unless you have a huge grant subsidised operation I think you may be wasting your time. With the profit on a bulk bag around £10 you will spend this on heat.
  21. If you want to avoid annoying ding bats it's Definately worth avoiding car boots. Shop when it's quiet.
  22. Stereo's poem is more accurate and factual and should replace the other one. perhaps it could be extended to include roof felt, railway sleepers green flames and tantalised timber.
  23. Something is worth what someone is prepared to pay. If you are going to sell it for £5 a bag and can't get it elsewhere its a bargain. If you sell it for £3 a bag and need to travel 100 miles to collect it would be a waste of time.
  24. I prefer beech and nothing goes on my fire unless its seasoned for a year if not two. That poem needs binning. Wood seasons quicker when cut to logs rather than left in cord. Beech seasons fairly well in cord lengths especially if the harvester has marked the sides. In my experience ash will be dry as it was cut down.
