  1. Have you tried the Andover hotmax plant they are normally over run with the stuff. Will cost you on transport but may still work out on a back load with arctic lorry.
  2. I had a little leyland daf 7.5 tonne with hiab and tilt and slide. I found it went out about once a week and cost me £500 every 3 months to get it through the checks. Unless you have at least 3 days a week work for a truck its a mill stone. I think its 4 times as expensive to run than a 4x4 I would hate to think what it costs to keep an arctic on the road. I have always fancied taking my hgv 1 and getting an arctic for the fun of it. Nearly bought a little volvo urban arctic with a generator mounted on and running it as an emergency standby out fit, no operators or 6 weeks checks as I remember.
  3. Got three loads booked out today. Hilux on bfg MT if it can get up our drive it can go anywhere. Trouble is once the snow freezes and compacts the tyres dont give you the same advantage. I dont have the same problems as most hilux empty as the tipper body is heavy. In this weather I leave the hubs locked and put the front in with lever in cab.
  4. He was selling it in July 2011 and everyone said it was too dear. Looks a bargain now there is snow on the ground
  5. I phoned TH White to order a new ifor williams box trailer for £4000 but they were to busy and could not be bothered to pass my phone no on to the man that deals with trailers. Lets hope they have some staff in Romsey.
  6. I am sure your right all my stuff is greased and I have never had wheels come loose. I dont run trucks so not a problem to me.
  7. I bought a hamlet from scats reduced from 579 to 299 made by arda in dorset seems a good efficient stove to me but I am no expert. Seems better than our hunter in the lounge.
  8. I did exactly that. But because development for housing came on the horizon I was very careful to keep it out of the business. If you sell later and make a profit you will pay capital gains. You can offset an allowance ea year so its not a straight 40% after 20 years on the profit. I would focus on the other positives like better security and no travelling to work. The big neg is you open you curtains and your at work. You have your family BBQs out the bucket of the jcb but like most things in life there are fors and against.
  9. I would hesitate putting a tipping body on a mk3 as the weight will kill it even when empty. mk4 better d4d excellent.
  10. Bolters in tadley hampshire made it. Very well made possibly a bit heavy but will tip anything you put in it. Prices started at 1700 but with vat mine was near 3k I had high sides, rear lights, anodised alloy, high open rear tailgate, removable divider.
  11. My subbie bought a 53 plate when it was about 7 years old with 24,000 miles mint condition. Luckily it had mitsubishi used warranty as the engine let go and took out the flywheel clutch and gearbox. 5k to repair when it came back nasty noises from clutch area and 3 months later the engine ecu went. This is only my opinion but when I bought a new double cab I tried a few and the L200 was bottom of my list as it felt 20 years behind the rest even the mazda was better and it was a third cheaper. I bought a navarra but should have spent the extra 3 k and bought the hilux which was ten times the quality.
  12. I would say 2250kg behind a pick up with no permanent 4x4 is enough. 3000kg is a bit much. I would pay through the nose for a good hilux but would avoid a l200 at all cost only a personal view based on experience and what I have heard. I hear a lot of horror stories about the ranger but not had one I would imagine the ranger tipper as a ready to go deal is a package which is hard to beat and it carries 1000kg which you will never get with the lux unless its alloy.
  13. Its fine with 800kg but not legal. Legally it carries 500kg. All single cab hiluxs only carry 700kg with tin tub but the extra cab carries at least 1100kg. Its the turbo diesel so about 23 mpg with mts on. Better fuel on d4d but alot more money to buy. I was going to run the chassis into the ground then move the new body onto a late mk 6 extracab. But 3/4 of the population around Andover are now doing logs so time for me to concentrate on other areas.
  14. You never know Jon might have a closing down sale. Still flat out on the kindling though  Got an order in the offing for 600,000 bags might need to buy and extra kindlett or two
  15. Yes proffessionally built with serial no for insurance company whole lot will be for sale soon. 5k + vat
  16. My garage warned me grease or oil your wheel nuts on your car if you must but dont do it on a truck whatever you do the nuts will undo. He has done my tyres for 20 years and never given me bad advice regards wheels and tyres.
  17. Had it about 4 years ago around my stomach. Nasty I think you are open to it if you get run down.
  18. Are the studs greased and maintained.
  19. Tipped loads of mixed hardwood logs. Cut and split to 10" approx 18 months ago. 1.5 cubic metres for £130 plenty in stock. Can deliver in the snow if it comes.
  20. £3000 a year is not bad considering some young kids pay that just to insure a 14 year old corsa. While the trucks parked up your not wearing the rubber off it. If everyone carries on treading water none of us will make money. Some jobs you just need to walk away from.
