  1. I would say you are right by christmas I had not sold 10% of my logs in the last few weeks have sold the lot. Next autumn I think will be slow as money is short and more people will be doing logs because this winter has dragged on again and caused a shortage.
  2. That could be a 1/2 cube bag so still £70 a metre.
  3. There could be another side to the story where she has five log merchants in and spins ea the same story and they feel sorry for her and leave half a cube free. but then I a can be a cynic
  4. Did not mean to put a downer on it. Feathers are up as kindling orders are good think it may just be my area very wealthy log prices rock bottom.
  5. clean logs are green logs each of my beech logs has a pair of arms and legs and when its dark they run into the field and roll around in the mud. After 12 months they are black. They dont throw their coat of till they hit the customers drive. yes I been drinking
  6. The same as this year and the last 18 months since the whole world now cuts up logs for beer money.
  7. I never seen a difference between branch and stem both weigh about the same so must have similar BTU.
  8. Been selling firewood for 7 years given up trying to explain to customers. All they are interested in is cheap. More so now than ever. The enviromental conscience has gone clean out the window now they cant afford to send Tarquin to uni while they jet of to Barbados.
  9. Its around a million per acre every where. But out of that must come the social housing currently 40%. Infastructure, schools, shops, roads, sewage and some kerb stones for the estate on the other side of town. 1/4 million to subsidise the bus service for the first few years, £70k per year for the housing liason officer ( methodone man ) 13.5% commission for the develper who must optimise the value of the land. When thats all done you give back the option money 8K per acre and they send you a cheque for 300k per acre if your lucky. Then you put it in the bank and watch inflation kill it.
  10. One of the reasons we stopped buying cordwood. On clearance jobs at the side of the road the lads are trying to squeeze 6in stuff through the chipper. In the forest they are picking up 1" sticks and trying to make up loads. I dont want to be buying under 2" and we dont want 24 tonnes of 3 " fussy arent we. The money is in the 6-8" stuff on a processor thats why we spend 15k on a processor.
  11. If they dont reply as you asked does that mean they are thinking out of the box?
  12. Someone must have the sign for sangat when it shut down.
  13. Is that gross or net.
  14. You cant object to housing on the grounds of it will spoil my view, you dont own your view. If houses are on the cards in your area the government will make sure it goes through.
  15. You could mention to them that some members of a minority community want to buy it to keep pigs . No only Joking gets some proper proffessional advice these people will represent your interest without being emotionally involved. They will be calculated and stone faced when its needed.
  16. electric oven is more efficent than a propane one so no real advantage unless you live off grid. You dont need the instant control with an oven taht is so useful on the stove.
  17. I have a tipper, I have no bank loans or start up grants ?
  18. We have a propane hob elec oven. New gas hob will cost about £60 with free propane jets. We use 1 bottle per year tops two. Use calor tried others but they dont gas off when near bottom of bottle and its cold.
  19. I have just been through all this. I have someone who represented me I can give u his no. Developers are slightly less honourable than drug dealers and will screw you sideways given the chance. We live in a wealthy area the land should be worth at least 600k but most got 100k per acre. good luck with what ever u decide to do be careful and watch your back.
  20. We use a hilux with 2 cu metre capacity it would take me alot longer to unload by hand than 2 minutes. By not offering stacking we can do 2 more deliveries a day. We have used a trailer in the past but found it scuffed up gravel drives and was a pain to push in snow and ice. The battery would go flat at just the wrong time. Our hilux charges its own battery, goes anywhere, drops a nice neat pile due to height of body, The oil is warmed by the exhaust so no slow drops either.
  21. I did look into it 2 years ago I think one product was tanalith. Cant remember the other I think the official view then was ok to incinerate as long as temp was above 600 deg c
  22. We could use new truss off cuts huge quanities but we dont unless someone can tell us its safe and legal. But who could you trust to give the go ahead.
  23. So the feeling is the newer treatments are less harmful than the old stuff. But will they be safe enough to make into kindling for resale in the future. It can be really difficult spotting treated timber as there is a new one that has a very light yellow tinge to it.
  24. Before we had a log deck we used to cut to 4ft so we could lift it all day. I would imagine its been forwarded behind a quad due to access. Could be ideal for someone near by with a big grain trailer.
  25. In 1988 I worked for the only onan dealer in the country for 2 years. I still have a few workshop manuals. Was you engine good when it was working. Can you get one off ebay possibly a low hr genset engine.
