Somebody go and fell it on his house and then tell him he can keep the logs. The public think their trees are worth a fortune when they come to buy quality seasoned logs they want them for pennies. The really arrogant ones buy a cheap saw go red in the face and give up after an hour.

Its even got side shift on it. If it died I would get an old out front rotary mower about 25hp and mount a forklift carriage on the front a bulk bag of logs weighs less than 1/2 tonne and you can move them about. If you make a stand all the bags have handles at different heights. With a forklift you can set the bag up just right so you get a nice flat bottom for stacking and you can settle the bag near the end. If you fill the bags suspended in the air you get a round bottom on them. -
I know, I was being naughty the op seem to be saying no body else knows what they are doing. Good news on the slew ring. I have actually sold the trailer and crane I replaced yours with along with all the log kit. Man of leisure now I wish 1000's of bags of kindling to make before next winter and dozens of big gensets to service and install.

Yeah its not rocket science you cut it at the bottom it falls over. You dont need to go to uni for four years to learn the trade.

I down load my brain to an organising package on my pc. I am now fully booked for at least 18 months on my generator side and 6 months on the kindling. With the amount of things I have to remember at the moment I would never sleep a wink again but I sleep like a log. I have used a package called time and chaos for 20 years. Its free to down load and is now called chaos free. I dont use the diary part just the white and yellow pages and off course the to do list. I could write it down on a piece of paper but putting it on the pc its on their for good even when deleted it can still be recovered. The list can be printed off and taken out in the van. Its in order of priority and you can change it if required. If the list gets wet or lost just print another. If I did not have another use for a pc I would still have one just to run this package:thumbup1:

Brinkman bri truck £800 but cost me about another £600 in parts and labour to get it working. After it had been through the workshop and had a wash and a new seat it looked massively better. Its had about 2 years hard use and the head gasket has gone on the Kubota engine we will spend the money as its such a useful economical little truck. Ok on dirt in the summer but mud in the winter forget it.

It would break down all the time the heater would be crap and the doors would not shut properly. If you must have an impractical vehicle with rock hard pram springs on the back Toyota make a proper one.

I am not so much thinking bits of conny but alot of jobs on sight I see 8" chippers and people trying to get whole trees through them. Alot of brash contains 3" stuff upwards alot of heat trapped in this stuff. I have paid £40 a tonne for cord in the past and 1/4 the lorry was 3" sticks:001_rolleyes:

sounds like a good little machine but I am thinking no cutting in the machine just 10 tonnes of pressure. a bit like a dust cart pushing everything to the front. I would think 20-30k for a machine but you would produce a sellable product rather than waste.

Even 3" stuff cut to 10" long can take an age to season unless the bark falls off. We have some beech logs bagged 2 years ago still 25% in the middle. I have beech cut and split last summer now under 20%

Not been to a show for at least a couple of years. If its out there it should filter through. I have in mind a machine the size of a big tow behind chipper with small diesel engine running hydraulics to compact it down so its dense but still light enough to hand ball. When hedge cutting you would aim to cut everything down to 12" as you go which would avoid being hit in the face by a 4ft rose hip stem. You could rack everything off the floor as you have no blades to worry about.

The whole wood burning thing has increased massively over the last five years. A lot of woody material gets turned to chip and left to rot. I struggle to get bushy brash into my incinerator and if I chip it green its hard to burn. But if I had a machine like a cardboard baler that made 18" bales they would fit nicely into my incinerator and I bet when dry, would contain a large amount of btus ideal for a large farm straw burning incinerator. The machine would be quieter than a chipper and not require the blades sharpening or bearings changed. The bales could be stacked in a chip box and still tipped out at the end of the day or loaded onto a cheaper vehicle ie ifor trailer and staked high. Is this a mad idea anyone have any thoughts.

Years ago I had a 1997 300 tdi, used to tow 3.5 tonnes and did 300,000 in 4 years. This was my 3rd one and we worked out the head gasket would blow between 3 + 4 cyl at about 80,000 miles. Because the engine only bent push rods we never bothered with cambelt change ( a simple job made difficult ) until it snapped or head gasket blew. We did get 145,000 once before either happened

too much for one load not enough for two. Maple splits and burns the same as beech hard to tell the difference in my stove.

If it aint broke dont fix it most of my saws probably have the same spark plug for 5 years. If it starts on the button and runs right why fiddle with it. As soon as I have a problem new plug compression check and carb kit. If that does not sort it stick it on ebay and off to joneses.

There are too many of everything its a small island and 1500 die, per day and 2000 are born. Thats without counting the europeans that flood in every day because their economies are stuffed. There was a shortage of plumbers so they trained 250,000. If you can buy a 3 bed house back home for 40k £6.75 an hour looks good. Nobodys fault just the way it is unfortunately they are not as easy going when we rock up in Barcelona looking for a bar job.

The 3.1 troopers were superb but now much too old. The common rail 3.0 troopers were a disaster thats why they are cheap to buy. The Rodeo has a totally different engine and is very good. If someone gave me a 3.0 trooper I would put it straight on ebay especially if it still actually runs.

Rodeo or hilux for me. Owned a new Nissan never again drove a l200 felt like 1972 and service every 3500 miles. Bear in mind we are talking 10 years ago had amazon since built like brick sh

I have been self employed for over 20 years and although you do have to work hard especially in the first few years its not a race. Even I still have 20 years of graft to go. Sounds like you will need to make the jump to full time self employed soon. I have found occasionally we loose a large customer but its surprising how quickly you fill the time. One thing I would say is if you are supplying logs give that up even if you get the wood free. Profit on logs is appalling and it kills your kit. The turn over looks good especially since it comes in fast and you have forgotten how much work went into it.

In the end my solution to this problem was to buy a cheap 1 tonne all terrain forklift. The bags fill so fast you may as well leave the engine running. Our forklift now has a blown head gasket so given some proper work it overheats we have run some big hours on it. Left ticking over all day it uses less than a gallon 3 cylinder ku boat diesel. For this job I have not found a better way of doing it and will shortly be fitting a new gasket.

Because we are not lifting 800kg have found two handles diagonally works fine forks together in middle two side handles lifts ok. The only time it falls apart is when the bags are years old but you are only supposed to use them once so getting ten years out of them is a no no
