    wood pigeon

I have a wood pigeon wandering around the garden with what appears to be a broken wing......is there anything that can be done for it? Or should I just put it out of its misery? (Although not entirely sure how or even if i could). Cheers

    whats going?

every single one of them should be ashamed of themselves.......forget about the manager. When they cross that white line they are playing for their country.....they are living the dream of millions. While they swan around with their millions in the bank there are people with limited resources who support them everywhere to be rewarded by a spineless passionless performance.....i'm just glad i was born in argentina!

What the hell is going on with that england team? That has got to be the worst i have seen......and theres a few to choose from.
  5. beautiful!!.....what amazing trees.
  6. With advice from Forestry Commision we are removing nests that are on trees within close proximity of public areas. The rest are being saved until around the 28th of this month which is around the time the caterpillars up in the 'satellite' nests up in the canopy return to the main nests ready for pupation. We will then remove these nests in the hope that the population within 1 tree have all collated at this stage. We are basically putting aside a week from 28th for caterpillar warfare. There are quite a few volunteers out spotting everyday at the moment plus us and the gamekeepers. Although we are finding a few a day i am sure this number represents but a fraction!
  7. looks like i will have to head up there at some p[oint....looks fantastic. Any photo's of the old Hollies up there??
  8. Bological warfare???........nope caterpillar removal!!
  9. The nests are incinerated yes David........I havent been involved in the removal as yet although will be there tomorrow. Rubber suits worn so can wash down afterwards and gloves of course. Syon Pk sounds interesting......how do i get a place on that? Not being a tree officer an all>
  10. So here are the nests of OPM. Last year we found 7 and already this year we are in the 20's.....it seems the march is on. Very difficult to spot from the ground these ones I found whilst deadwooding. 2 active nests and 1 from last year. A pattern is emerging, all but 1 has been found on the south/south west side of the tree so it seems they like the sun! We have been removing the nests and have a possible 3 more weeks before they turn to moths and take flight. With 1500 or so vet oaks and 1000's more they may find they have all they need here and its not looking good. Keep your eyes peeled and DONT TOUCH!.....reort to the forestry commission if found.

    Smokin'!!

thats a great idea tommer......i love my fish and we alot of it in this house......so how does it work? just a tin with sawdust and stick it on the hob?
  16. Nice David......try bracketing your exposures a bit more.....using the exposure compensation dial on top left of camera. Especially handy when centre framing a tree against sky. Can under/over expose different parts of the photo then as there can be 2-3 stops difference in exposure between the ground, tree and the sky.
  17. Any idea what it is? A wasp grub or something? Posted these on another thread ages ago but perfect home for them here.
  18. Go on mate push yaself a little.....work for waitrose
  19. i do agree although i sufferd from big brother syndrome myself and got him to fix all my bikes whereas he had to learn for himself......maybe have him out with you and do it together......teach him and spend time together......no its not easy as i've just spent a painful coupkle of weeks getting a 15 year old to sand down and paint a bench.......watchiung him sand at times was like watching an anaethetised sloth at work.
