  9. So once again we embark on nest removal......Removed quite a few yesterday some were instar 2/3 others had moved on to instar 4. Last piccie is of a nest where the caterpillars have shed skins and moved on to next instar of which there are 6 in all. They shed there skin 5 times before this stage.....mad! Also finding them very low down on small trees as can be seen and also nesting on the end of very slender twigs. We've certainly got our work cut out this year thats for sure:thumbdown:

  11. In previous posts though Gerrit you have said that without the galls it is impossible to be 100% certain about distinguishing between Australe and Applamatum unless using microscopes. On this occasion I am interested to know why you are so sure? I dont doubt you at all just a little confused.
  12. i will take you up there to see this tree tony as you will love it. Not just this one but there are interesting trees in the same field....a fair few old oaks and a big old ash too.

  16. Had a feeling about this tree for some time now. First glimpsed it driving up the A10 and finally trekked over to see it today. Never did i think i would encounter such a fantastic tree and bracket though. The tree is huge......cannot seem to locate it on the ATF's map so will be going back to measure it and get it logged. My Gano/Phellinus id was never the best and since Gerrit has been on here although he has given good advice as to telling the difference I am still somewhat confused. So what is this do you think? I'm going for a stab at Robustus! No.... Adspersum.......Robustus....
  17. I think you are lucky to go through your career without an incident......purely because however competent, careful, experienced you are, you can be 'unlucky' and through no fault of your own have a mishap..... a slip, a snapout.....just sheer bad luck......and it happens.
  18. Why should he have left his mishaps unsaid?.....he's being honest. Nowt wrong with that.
