  14. Cheers Scott, and thanks for the PM. Tulip is basically very similar to poplars we have back home. The wood is pretty strong, (apart from the fell when it flopped in to two parts like jelly!), very nice to cut, and makes nice noise when hinging, as heard on the film. Catalpa is a different kettle of fish, we have them here, but they do not get as big as Tulips. I've climbed a few and they are nice trees. You asked in your pm about the rigging in the film, why I tied off the brush the way I did, well, every branch is of course different, so when I rig brush, I like to have the brush leave the cut as smooth as I possibly can, with no shock loading to the tree or the gear. Finding that balance, just makes things go nicer, and also for the ground crew, the limbs land with the butts facing the direction of the chipper. We were lucky not to be hindered by wires etc on this job. Was a treat!
  15. Ha yeah Scott, that is just a little bad habit. My thumbs are pretty sore most of the time from whatever reason, but, not good to show anyway. Thanks for watching, sahring experience is what its all about, EH!?
  16. Add a pulley into the system for twice the pull. Im doing it
  17. Just found the Maasdam on home depot for $43! 1 & 2 Ton Cable Puller-144C-6 at The Home Depot
  18. For $59 i dont think you can go wrong! Thats what, 40 quid? And pulls like 15 men at once. Im going to order one and see how it gets on. We have some new 3 strand pull rope in the lock that I can use with it, although you can use any 1/2 inch rope with them. I think it will be an invaluable tool in the box.
  19. Here is whats available on Wesspur... Rope Pullers & Cable Pullers for Tree Care Operations
  20. Hi all, I would like to get one of these, for pulling trees, lifting, etc. Thinking of a Maasdam or a Continuous Rope Puller, pulls 10:1 and 1500 lbs. Only $59... What do you use, recommend? Cheers
  21. Not necessarily Old Mill, if the rigging point is at an angle away from the climber then tip tying is ok. With a notch in the direction of the angle of the rigging line, it will work. All about the angle of the dangle!
  22. Good fell Reg, really controlled. It was a heavy back leaner! Looked a similar shape to that Tulip I did that split! I really want one of those winches, man it would help us out here. Thanks for posting
