  1. What I must also say is trees can vary within species due to climatic conditions and I'm not 100% correct but 90% sure:biggrin: Its only possible to make an educated guess from a few pictures Sent from Rob's GalaxySII
  2. I find Alan Mitchells Books very good especially the 1974 trees of britain and europe edition, i also have Owen Johnsons Tree Guide published by collins(2004) i also have a great big book of leaves, horticulture encyclopedia's and a few othe collins and oxford Tree ID books, I am also doing my dendrology module at Uni so everything is fresh in the memory The difference here between the two (green/red and white ash)(Green ash/red ash is the same tree different continent common name) or "splitters" is the colour of the shoot, the bud and the winged/unwinged leaflet stalks thats how i came up with F. pennsylvanica:thumbup:

  14. David, as part of my leaf collection I have been noticing acorn fruit on a variety of oaks 'oop ere' and have noticed quite a few Q. patreae's with large stalks and healthy larger looking acorns, whereas we're having woodsy I would say is a normal year for the Q. roburs Sent from Rob's GalaxySII

  16. So then, I'm going to throw the cart amongst the portions now... AOD, an actual condition... Or, something that already existed in another form that we've redefined, e.g. armillaria colonisation/cankers/environmental conditions.. A clear definition would be nice Sent from Rob's GalaxySII

  19. I've done a few big planes this year and a few small ones:thumbdown: What i can say is at the start of summer (June/July) the small plane i pruned was horrendous!! and the big one not so bad. One of my colleagues who smokes 20-40 a day, had no problems and found it quite amusing that we were all choking our guts up!? I pruned two Big ones last week, one on a wet day and one on a dry and i had no problems what so ever, and i normally have a bad reaction to them, so i think the worst is over:001_cool:
