  2. what this tree was? Could be a Sorbus, hard to say from those pics going off bark alone

  6. this then leads me to believe that it is in the Fabaceae family and it is possibly a Cladrastis kentukea?? I'm running out of options i know here:lol:
  7. if i had to guess it would be one of... Fraxinus americana Fraxinus latifolia Tertadium daniellii
  8. Has it got a chambered pith? If so its in the Juglandaceae family and could be either Juglans regia/nigra or Pterocarya fraxinifolia Could also be a hickory sp. (Carya sp.) Any chance i can see the bud/bud scar? Saying that could it also be a Fraxinus sp.?

    in fact scrap that:lol: its not A. maximowiczianum that was my guess looking from my phone I'd be more confident in guessing Acer triflorum:thumbup: but it could also be Acer henryi as you state! Have you got any more pics? Either A. triflorum or A. henryi

    You won't find Acer ginala because its Acer ginnala. The leaf here is more than likely Acer maximowiczianum:biggrin:, its similar to A. griseum with different bark. Sent from Rob's GalaxySII
  14. i think the further north you go the more common that is! there are quite a few birch in salford (on the edge of woodlands and greenspaces) that display these fung's, i'll get piccies for you:biggrin:

    Thank you, your a star! I did have that website (world checklist from kew) but never saved it as a favorite and when I tried to find it again, could I remember what it was called, nope!   23. depends on the sun/shade leaf, they can have quite a dark green leaf sometimes

    Does anybody have the book 'NEW EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL CODE OF NOMENCLATURE FOR CULTIVATED PLANTS' or similar editions, i need to find when the cultivar Fagus sylvatica 'Luteovariegata' was first cultivated and introduced here, hoping there are some clues in this book Thanks Robin
