  1. Hi there I think y were to hard on the poor lad .it's a silly mistake but the sack for it that's tight . Y have to remember y were new once and If y think back at your own mistakes y would see your own mistake in giving him the sack . It should of been a broom and shuvle to clear it up. It's even eaiser to make mistakes on your first day as sometimes y can be so keen to please and do well that silly things can happen . It's lightly the poor lad would of felt a real twit in front of his new work mates that in it's self would of been enough. Give the new lad another chance and lighten up a little . All the best littletree
  2. One chap I use to work with at a supermarket over 10 years ago is still there he works on trolleys he went to uni for 6 years and did a phd he is still working there today on trolleys In the same supermarket 10 years on . His parents paid to make sure he did not have a lone to pay off . His parents were devestated and it took them years to accept that he would never get a better job he is a strange chap he could never cope with any pressure and is a loner compleatly set in his ways and lives as if he is in a shoe box . I think it was a massive waist of money really feel for his mum and dad . I do think he should of had to pay as he has compleatley waisted his education . Had he had to pay up he may of thought twice about the choices he has made . Littletree
  3. Hi Stephen really pleased you have got your old groundy back thats really nice someone you know and trust and he knows how you work . All the best Littletree:thumbup:
  4. i totaly agree with the above . i went into it all and went round in circuls with the small print as to what was covered and what was not. this went on and on these companys have so many loop holes written in to insure they would will not have to pay out in the end. they are in the buisness to get rich on your money for there benifit . many people think they are insured when in the event off a claim they find that the company have tiny print and are not covered for there claim littletree

  7. HI all I live in a small old static caravan full time have done for about 6 years now . Its a wonderfull way of life even though now my toilet is frozen over and the pipes are frozen up so have to get water in from outside I live very high up on the mendips so its really winter for us up there a couple of years ago we had waist hight snow up there. that was interesting fun Its a great way of life it takes a little bit of work but its worth it I would never want to own a house morgage or have a heavy rent to pay so its perfect. some basic advice for your first van make sure the floor is sound and its free from mold and damp up the walls .an awaning is very good makes life easyier. All the best Littletree:thumbup:
  8. Hi threre and welcome to the fourm good luck with your new choice of work . its not allways easy to start with to get your foot in the door but if you are persistant and keep going you will get in and it will be well worth it . I did it and was very determined and have never looked back it was the best choice i ever made 2 years on and I work for my self doing private work and also sub out to companys to help with staff shortages and holiday cover and I have a great time along the way meeting new people and learning new stuff . you will have to make lots of calls and leg work to find your first company but after that it becomes easier as your exp grows and you learn how to handle the saws and equipment and all that goes with it then it gets much easier to get work . when you get your first saw you can start to do little jobs for friends and family to get your saw handling up and get in lots of practice . Good luck on your new chosen parth All the best Littltree:thumbup:
  9. Hi tere I love the 260 it sounds like a good deal I would of had myself but one thing that would of stopped me in my tracks My first saw came with the easy chain tensioner it was the worst bit on the saw . Inside there is a black dile with litte teeth these ware really quickly and then you cannot tension the saw chain any more as soon as its starts the tension goes . you can replace the dile but it will do it again and again unless they have changed the design the teeth as they are only a mil or 2 to bite. so only a tiny bit of ware and its game over and you cannot tighen . there is a way to repace it to a standard set up but its expensive and not worth it overall . I hope your new saw is good and this does not happen to you . but my recomondations for anyone thinking of buying either new or second hand is never buy one with an easy quick tensions they are ok for a hobby saw thats not used much and not put under any work load . All the best Littletree:001_smile:
  10. I agree with this . For me I would never do it as belive it will end in tears its all good and dandy untill one of you does something the other does not like then the squabbles start you might as well just chip the chipper in half and go your seprate ways . I never ever lend out or go halfs on equipment I know where I am with it all and then if somehing brakes its down to me and I am not then having to aruge with the other person as to who is going to pay for damage or stuggle to get the equipment when i need it . I have a motto and its KIS ( Keep it simple ) it makes for a happy life all the best with what you decide Littletree:thumbup:
  11. I decided I had had enough of a life working as a carer in care homes earning really low wages or working in shops on min wage . I had one asset I felt I could use I am very fit and love being outside and working outside I had a go of a freinds chainsaw and that was hooked I just knew I wanted to do I should of done it years ago but better late then never. its the best move I have ever made and now I have the best job in the world . I now get paid to use chainsaws and look after peoples trees and gardens for them its good . I have never looked back . I can honistly say its the best job in all the world even in the wind rain and snow every day I get my toys out to play with or put my harness on I think to mysefl how lucky I am . even if I could have the best paid job going I would not sawp this job for anyting . every day I have fun get good pay and play with my toys and make someons tree and or garden look great and in turn make them really happy to. O happy days Littletree.
  12. Hi there really really sorry to here that thats really sad I hope you are able to get up and running again . they must of been watching you for a while as they went for the bricks they must of planned it for some time Hope they get caught . All the best littletree
  13. I think it depends on the person and your own physical condition I am very close to hitting 40 and female and I climb around easy can bend swing and allways cannot waite to put my harness on each day and get into the trees what ever the weather . when I have done a really hard day grounding/climbing I allways feel my age afterwards but a hot barth /shower does the trick but it does not stop me I still run rings round the guys in there 20s all day long. I hope to keep climbing till I am old and gray I know one guy I work with is 65 he does all my jobs that are to big for my tiny company to deal with he climbs and cuts brillantly and he is fast too its all down before you know it. 14. I am glad this post was started as I was going to post a similar one getting everyone to post up there free ways of adverstizing to help each other . I did looki into the supermarket thing with the little cards it was going to set me back 11 per week i think they said so I say no thanks I dont think supermarkets would work as everone juat wants to get there food and get through the tills as fast as possible and out the door . I am new to advertizing so all my work comes from card drops through the doors I go and pick area to dorp and do it all on foot i also if I see a house that needs work doing on my travles I will stop and card goes in door . it does work. but I have to dorp aprox 80 cards to 1 job so it pays for its self its hard leg work but as still in my first year of trading I am still at the advertizing stage. The other ways I advertize is in coffee shops , caffs ,chippys, pubs, restrants, shops, everywhere I go I allways have a stack of well made up and large cards with everyting I do on them my website and photo of me up a tree and my webstie too. my cards really stand out . when i sell my junk at car boot sales I have my bill board with my company and my oversized postcards all along the table. I use the selling of my junk as a way into conversations and getting my cards into there hands. I never leave the house without them as all the time you are meeting different people. I make sure that my cards get into there hands . most people that you meet will have a garden and mabe trees that will need work doing . Think how many people that you chat or meet in a day when your not working these people are all waiting for your cards . everytime I eat a new place my cards make there way in with me . you have to remember where you have put them and remember to revisit and refill them . I have one add in my local village mag for 24 quid a year that has netted me 5 days work so far she lives in my village so now its round everywhere what I do as I did a massive job for her and she tells everone what a nice job I did for them and shows them her garden so now more spin offs from that. The local newspapers I dont bother with they are expensive and I dont think they would work . Anyone with more different and free or low cost idears please post them up Littletree
  15. Thanks for that I will remember that if they ever strike again . thumb is all better now it took a few days and the little pills worked there wonder. had a stiff sholder for a few day after but thats departed now too. Thanks Littletree:thumbup:
  16. Well I have just gotton myself a 372xp 24 bar its wicked . For my everyday use I love my Sthil 260 its fast powerfull light and the best saw in the Sthil range they have ever made goes up to a 15inch I dont know about the 345 or 57 but my new 372xp is sweet . if you want to get just one saw for all then the 372 runs up to 24 bar and you can put a 15 on it as well so then you are sorted for all size jobs . with the 357 not sure what bar size it will take up to .but it is something to consider if you just want one saw for all hope this helps Littletree:thumbup:

  23. Poor lad I can just imagin the customer watching, the boss watching, the other lads watching, he must of been really scard and then it happens. having an audiuance is more scary then doing the job itself. for me still being a new to it even with the little trees i fell I hate anyone standing close watching me. hope you all help him stright away to do another and make sure he does not loose his confidence that would be a real shame if he did. if he does another one stright away and it goes well he will feel so much better even if its a small one . all the best Littletree:001_smile:
