  1. Hahaha, that's such an old man's bike Did you have the pipe and slippers as well? And there was me thinking you wasn't that old, either. So are you heading towards your Harley phase in life ? Or are you going to do it properly and get the ridiculously powerful sports bike with matching leathers? (A bit like moi ).
  2. It's a legal requirement in this country. We're not true Brits unless we moan about it being too hot/cold/wet etc
  3. Another vote for natives if possible How about copper beech with dog roses interplanted? Obviously, beech isn't evergreen but they will retain their leaves in the lower crown to help hide the fence during winter and the roses will provide interest with their contrasting flowers, winter hips and lots of food for wildlife.
  4. That would really P' off your neighbour wouldn't it? First you vandalise their tree and then you fly tip all the arisings in theie garden! Talk about adding insult to injury. Still on the subject of what I would go, if it was the other way around and it was my tree that had been fubar'd then no, I wouldn't go to the police about it. I would, however, get as much evidence as possible and inform the LA of their actions. ... And then set about acts of petty revenge to make my neighbour's life hell for a while I'm still in a long term, stable relationship with my significant other. I think we're going to be together for the foreseeable .
  5. I photoshopped those numbers onto the speedo, honest guv' I work to my own moral code, which isn't always the same as what is legal. However, as this is a publically viewable 'site, I'm bound to say that I never break the law in any way As for the twig napping scenario, I think I would be one of the few people that would do things rigidly (some would say, anally) by the law and offer any arisings back to the owner. BUT, I wouldn't go hacking at a neighbours tree without discussing it with them in the first place. I've worked in LAs giving just this kind of advice to members of the public and liasing with the Legal Dept's over planning regs infringements involving trees, so I would be one huge hypocrite if I was to then completely ignore the correct way of doing things.
  6. Hey, I'm only telling you the law. Whether it's reasonable to implement it or not is an entirely different matter At least you now know you're being a very naughty, law breaking boy when you go twig napping.
  7. You're welcome. All LAs have slightly different set ups and protocols, so I can only comment about the systems at the ones that I have worked for. I think that's some of my caveats covered
  8. Lordy you work in a beautiful location I can't see too many trees there though
  9. Technically, yes. Removal of anything belonging to the legitimate owner is considered theft. The principal is that all arisings need to be offered back and it's then up to the owner whether they want to take them or not. But if you can get a suspended sentance for killing someone these days, I don't think theft of a few twigs will betaken that seriously by our over worked Old Bill.
  10. Not necessarily. It can depend on the amount of money and type of work involved. Ususually, if the estimated cost is fairly low, then the TO has the ability to choose who they give the work to. Having to quote against other companies then happens for larger amounts of money If there is already a fixed term contractor in place, then the above will be dependant on what's written in the contract.
  11. If the tree owners want to persue this, then the easiest thing to do is to report the vandals to the LA. Infringements of Planning Regs (if the tree is above the required size) are a criminal acts and should be dealt with accordingly. Also, if the arisings weren't offered back to the owners then that is theft, again a criminal act. Although in reality the chances of any action being taken is minimal, perhaps a legally termed letter from the LA might just scare them into not doing anything similar again. Why oh why are neighbours so incapable of talking to each other in the first place and thus avoiding all this grief ?
  12. I couldn't possibly have done that... ... The braces would have chafed too much! LoL. Working in this warm weather is always a good reason to go back to using hand saws wherever possible, depening on the job, of course.
  13. Ask which Councils they represent and then contact the relevant HR departments to check if they use this company if you want to make sure, but it sounds dodgy to me. The LAs I have worked for have been inundated with small companies offering their services and there was never any need for a third party to arrange the contracts.
  14. I can't say I miss that feeling of sweat trickling down the insides of your chainsaw trews and into your boots. But at least you get the option of going topless .
  15. Mmmmm, toasty. Haven't you got a handy trainee for things like that?
  16. That could make quite good spectator sport. I don't think I've ever witnessed full on slanging match at a quarterly. Yet...
  17. I didn't think you had neighbours up in Humphry's Mansions in the wilds of Barnet? I think I'd be more worried about sounding like a wee smitten than a dirt' great Harley
  18. It's been gorgeous here and I've had such a hard day coping with the heat while sitting in my local park in my shorts and vest... It's certainly NOT the weather for strenuous activity while wearing ballistics. It's near impossible to stay hydrated when it's as warm as this.
  19. Don't tell me you've actually gone out and got your shiny new toys all grubby? Shock horror
  20. Is this one of the quarterlies or an entirely seperate meeting?
  21. Tuesday 10th May - Dr Tom Smiley and Dr Glynn Percival. Wednesday 18th May - Dr John Flannigan. Thanks to all at Barchams and their continuing support of the Arb' industry. These seminars are free, so get yourself to them ! (My scanner's not up and running, so apologies for the poor pics of the flyers ).
  22. Capel for me, please . Any of the Capel bases (Enfield, Gunnersbury, Crystal Palace etc.) would be great for us Londoners and those in the surrounding areas. Cheers Paul.
  23. WTF??? You have some mighty strange folk lurking in your woods. Or is that a DH original entry for this year's Turner?
