  1. Dont panic Brian, you have a huge stack of quality hardwood to process in time for the rush.
  2. Nice one mate........vast improvement.
  3. 5 trees can be crashed down, 4 have to be rigged. There is NO WAY that can be done for that price. The tin pot customer is blagging it.
  4. Its all well and good saying that you could come in with big gear and do it in a day, but this gear costs and so do operators and ground crew. I find it VERY VERY hard to believe that anyone insured, qualified and with the experience/ kit to take on that kind of work would do it for anything like that money.
  5. 'o' licence is dependent on use not weight. You can drive a 16 tonne tipper without an o licence as long as you NEVER carry a load for anyone but your own personal use. The law is unbelievably complex, and is almost on an individual case by case basis. My missus has been drivin 7.5 ton horse boxes on a car licence for years, and been checked by VOSA on 5 seperate occasions, and has NEVER talked about o licences with them (everything but mind you!!!!)
  6. Turn the theory round.......pat yourself on the back for giving summer customers longer hours....!
  7. Windy as anything down here, but dry as yet........
  8. I think that the trees may be still vulnerable after pollarding as soon as the bark becomes sufficiently fissured for the scolytid beetle to get in. I think they have a range of about 2-3 km, and there is a theory that if only one tree is left in a given area it stands a greater chance of non-infection. Could you maybe leave the best speicmen and fell any others? Conversely, i also think that the height of the tree also pertains to its attractiveness to the beetle, so pollarding would possibly have a useful effect, i.e if the tree is kept to a smaller height then it wont get attacked..
  9. That is one mean tree......I'm with dean on the species. (Floss silk tree?)
  10. I reckon you have probably made the right choice Tom. Your landy seemed in pretty straight condition when i saw it, and once the work is done and you have got over the bill then you will have a good lump under the bonnet in a pretty decent truck. 'Better the devil you know' as they say!
  11. Yeah its a total PITA as i have orders now and upcoming for oak, and they all want cornish oak too..
  12. Dave- thats a great log mover you have there!
  13. We cant get ANY oak sawlogs in cornwall at the mo. Its coming in from europe!!
  14. What sort of diameter is it- cordwood or sawlog- and where are you mate?
  15. Tom...i think it really is that simple..yes. Dont forget that you have just bought a big meccano set. Nearly every L/R part ever made will just about fit all the other parts ever made:lol: get on to LR4x4.com. My bro used to live near you and there are loads of landy geeks your way, most of whom are members of that site from what i can tell.
  16. Hey guys- just been eating some dead cow!:thumbup:Tucked into a nice bottle of red....the good lady came through nicely. Hows the monster in law Dave? Now, go get some sleep for fecks sake!
  17. Tom, i spent about 2k at Wards Engines. I had the engine taken out and stripped by Mid cornwall 4x4 (who i always use) and sent to wards. i got a total rebuild with genuine parts and because i had cracked the head i opted for a second hand one off wards, which they warrantied for 3 months if i remember rightly. They would have supplied me a new head but at the time i couldnt afford it.The service was impeccable and they were extremely obliging. That was 2 years ago, and i have not had the slightest hint of a problem. It has recently started to weep a tiny bit of oil from the rocker cover gasket. I would recommend this as the very best way foreward. I looked into 2nd hand engines etc etc and TBH although it was a financial stretch at the time, i would always go down that route in the future. The total bill was about 2.6k.
  18. Just got in, been helping CTS today....a very driven lad.
  19. ??????? My missus drives 7.5 tonne horse box without an o licence? Been had by VOSA for everything but that on 4 seperate occasions. can of worms this one.
  20. Does that boy never sleep???? Good day today i thought mate. Thanks to you and David for the work.:001_smile:
