  1. If im honest i dont relly go out and buy kit if im not sure how to use it of what it does . if im looking into a new piece of kit tht is new on the market i will look into the piece of kit by speaking to - Arbtalk, suppliers and other climbers that have used the kit .and if possible i will try the piece of kit out before i buy it . it can save alot of money if you try it and dont get on with it or find that its not what you were expecting
  2. Thatis all wee and good if you are operating with PL cover , and you are opperating as a commercial outfit .
  3. The best way to learn how to price jobs is quite simply work out how much the job will cost you ie fuel , equipment hire , wear th tear of your own kit etc etc and then once you have this price you then need to work out how much you want to earn from the job . But do remember (this is only a guess) you will not have any insurance and very few overheads . So if it were me that was getting the quote i would expect it to be significantly less that a pro outfit . Just remember - the best way to learn how to quote fairly and still earn a £or2 for your self is by getting it wrong from time to time , im sure many guys on here get the odd quote wron from time to time and thats what keeps you on your toes . Secondly, i strongly reccomend getting some experience with a local firm or one man band , i bit of time in the working world in reall work situations is well worth it . you never know there may be smoeone on here willing to give you the odd day here and there . Any way good luck on your journey into/through the arb world
  4. 50:1 diesel screen wash mix bob
  5. other than the odd few silky cuts i have not managed to cut myself with any other saws .
  6. my only advice on top of the other posts is not to assume or ask what time you finnish - i have had a few guys come for a trial and the one thing that gets me above all it when when im asked if its time to pack up yet or as in one case - 4.15 came along and the guy started loading the kit inot the truck !!!
  7. I think you just have
  8. No that oil is designed for lubricating the bar and chain. What you need to buy is something like Stihl two stroke oil , my advice would be to get an expert to have a look at the saw as you may well need the carb cleaning and a new spark plug
  9. I have had some seriously stressfull times and have found myself in the position of seeking help and advice as to how i could reduce the ammount of stress , it was in doing this that it became quite clear (in my case) that no matter how much i tried to seek help and advice the only way that i was going to sort my situation out was by sitting down and putting it all on paper and then working finding my own course of action . often stress is something that only you can deal with and find a resolv that suits you . It is only when you can start to find your own answers that you will start to become able to see patternt emerging and have the foresight to nip stress in the bud before it gets on top of you again . I have found that often my stress has been caused by something blatently obvious that i had totally overlooked . Having saif that i have found my self typing the above whilst getting stressed !!!!!
  10. And how do you know they have 10" to offer ? ? lmao
  11. hi , when re starting the saw did you set the choke to full then pul the saw over untill t fired , then set the choke to half and again pull it fired and then started ? secondly it may be worth getting a bottle of stihl to stroke oil that measures out the right amount of oil for 5 litres of fuel .
  12. My only advice is to lookat what a current new trailer would cost and then make a decision on what you feel the triler is worth and what you are happy to pay for it , personally i would be offering something allong th lines of 7-8k
  13. hi there , sunds like you have had a pretty bad day in the world of unimogs the same as me !!!! Ken Day is meant to be good , also Atkinson Vos's mobile mechanic is meant to be good and he is currently down south from what im told . Hope this helps . oh and should you happen to have a spare turbo to fit a merc OM366A engine i would be greatfull lol . Cheers Dave
  14. Hi i would love to go to such an event , im based down in cornwall but as with most things there is not alot that goes on down here but i would happily drive up for the event .
  15. How are things doing on the other side of ipplepen ? . yeah it was a shame the fastrac had to go but i guess they no longer had the work for it !!! .
  16. just a thought but have you tried SHB hire in exeter (marsh barton ) ??? i know they have a 15 meter lift on a londrover 130 that they hire out . failing that then Rowland fursden May well hire out his cabstar hoist . Good luck and hope you find a hoist
  17. some of the method's shown in the above footage (shock loading a crane and causing limbs to swing on the hook are some of the easyest ways to tke a crane out of its radius and thus cause the crane to topple over , it is exactly these reasons that crane works within the arboricultural industry have got some bad PR for being "really dangerous" . i am amazed the crane opperator carried on adter the first time this happened . I did also notice that each limb (lift) was numbered - was this because the crane company insisted on a detailed method statement ? was if for a system of contract lifts ? either way this video clearly shows that there is a distinct lack of respect for health and safety when it comes to training future tree surgeons over there
  18. i tend to find that its the really important branches that poke and annoy me that get the chop - can lead for some funny looking reductions lmao
  19. Have they got rid of the cabstar then ? i did notice the jcb fastrac and timber crane has gone !!
  20. hi pauls mog is only a 13.5 meter hoist . hope this helps also you will need 8ft2 to get the mog in if its the same width as my mog
  21. How is max these days ? not seen him since i worked for him for a short time .
  22. hi its a long shot and not sure if you would be keen but another AAAC firm based in ipplepen has a cabstar mounted 17m lift , pm me if you need details etc cheers Dave
  23. you going to go and give the tyres a kick ? it does lok like a handy bit of kit but cant see that it will be as handy as steves new toy
  24. i have a Ranger Tipper - i got mine second hand but i am fairly sure you can stipulate that you want a chassis cab only - simply all your dealer does is order a ranger without the tub BUT i would not be sure that there is any stock left as the current ranger is no longer in production according to my locall dealer . if you need some pictures of out tipper fell free to pm me your email address
  25. simples - get ford rancer chassis cab and have someone like tip master fit a tipper , the factory fitted tipper was way to heavy for the vehicle any way . and its most likel getting a chassis cab and getting a tipper fitted would be cheeper , also that way you can have the tipper designed to your liking
