  1. Sadly there are no pics as we were pushed for time today . the client has no knowledge of stum grinding opperations and mearly expected the stumps to be ground out .
  2. Thats a good point Huck , My client was assured buy the contractor that " i will grind the stumps as far as the machine will allow " . Many of the stumps have not even been ground to the same level as the surounding ground .
  3. I have been working ona site where we hve taken out several large trees (15) the client asked me to reccomend someone for stump grinding , i gave the client two numbers of people that carry out this service , the client went with one of the firms and the work was quickly carried out . We havebeen on the site this week clearing timber and generally finnishing of with the clean up . It was to my suprise today when we started to rake out all of the grindings (which were left in heaps by the chap grinding) and we found that the stumps have not been ground any more than 75mm under the ground and in many cases the stumps and associated butress roots have not been ground below the surface at all . My questions are - Is there a BS standard for stump grinding ?? How deep do you expect the average stump grinder to grinde large stumps , these stums vary in width from aproximatley 28 inches - 75 inches (including associated roots . Cheers in advance for any advice or info you can give me , i tend not to get involved in such situations however the client is now really not happy
  4. Such sad news My thoughts are with the friends and familly of the pilot . R.I.P
  5. nice job Hodge , just got in from work and have enough time for a we bit of arb talk and then back for a night job . Always good to have a gander at what others have been up to whilst having dinner . Was the cake any good / and what sort of cake ? Cheers Dave
  6. thank you for posting , its great to have a possitive outlook for a change , im all for making sure vehicles are in a safe and roadworthy condition . However there is always the risk of too much red tape being roled out and not enough common sense .
  7. surely it has lots to do with vosa seeing they do advise the goverment on how to enforce road traffic regs and they also hve a fair bit of imput into the ammount of red tabe , bells ,whistles and sparkely bits that add
  8. And its super cheep to get a tacho fitted , and offroad parking for the transit , and everly two man band has three and a half grand in the bank just for repairs !! Thinks have come along ??? Yes they have , we are now screwed out of even more and expected not to complain . And people wonder why we have no industry left in this country !!!! Personally i see this as a great way for VOSA to make a bit more money and to prove their worth of enforcing pointless regulations - there is a trm about something not being broken and not trying to fix it !!!! it would not be so bad if simply all effected vehicles were expected to have 6 monthly mot's
  9. i am still looking for a plough for the front of my mog , i have been looking since august !!!!
  10. Yeah im hopefull that danny tomms is available to do the work on tuesday . will pm you
  11. in most cases it is emplied within the instructions that this equipment must only be used by "trained and competent persons" in the event of a claim against the seller or manufacturer i would guess that the case would not stand up in court . This is only my thought on the matter though . So as apbell says- what have you broke ????
  12. Great stuff Paul much appreciated , i guess im fortunate to have such decent TO's . but i will have to get a coppy of the blue book . Thanks again
  13. Nice , i wonder if i could fit a chippr and crane like that to the front of my mog
  14. Cool Beans thanks for that so what is the bluebook view on dead trees being "exempt" from planning is my TO correct ?
  15. it may sound mad but after walking round an aplication co arry out works to almost 200 trees in a park the TO made it perfectly clear that DEAD trees are exempt as they are not potentially dangerous and neaither are they dying - they are dead and therefore exempt . im meerly doing as the TO says !!!! lol
  16. Nice one Dean looks great in the eyes of a man that can not splice . Having said that i would love to learn to splice
  17. Looks like e are fairly lucky , dont get me wrong if we apply under a 5 day notice of standard applications we are expected to re-plant , if the tree is dead and i mean totally dead then the tree is exempt so i feel there is no need to ask to remove a tree that falls outside of the TPO or C/A , in the event of an emergency job then the L/A will b notiffied either at the time or photos are taken and sent with the post notification , should they require a replacement then i will allways do so but like i have previously said we are not asked to do so in circumstances that fall outside of the TPO or C/A
  18. Thankfully Derrek at A.C Price was spot on with help and advice on saturday morning and the turbo should be with me for tuesday , we fitted a tempory pipe and drove her the last mile and a half home . im just hoping that it was only the turbo that went , we did have to put 8 litres of oil in the old girl before it even registered on the dip stick . These things always happen at the times when your flat out and ca not do the jobs without the machine !!!!!
  19. Really? , i guess we must be a bit more fortunate down here , so are you expected to re-plant in the situation of removing a TPO'd tree that has been blown over in a storm ??
  20. or in one case ; do three times the work in a day andthen as the driver take the mog home the oil pipe from the oil filter to the compressor bursts and the driver does not notice untill he is 2 miles up the road when he hears something that sounds like a pipe burst and a black puff of smoke come from the exaust - good days money spent before you know it . sometimes i wonder if i should get a smaller chipper as well
  21. I totally see where you are coming from Huck but i cant see that it would be a reasonable or fair request that you must replace a tree that has died due to naturall causes . down here i have not been asked to replace a dead tree the is tpo'd that i have taken down for these reasons . BUT THERE IS ALWAYS A FIRST I GUESS
  22. Often the FC will not request that you apply for a felling liscense for nessessary Arboricultural works BUT this is at their descretion
  23. from my understanding of planning law is that any dead tree is exempt from statute planning law , you must be able to prove that the tree(s) that have been taken down were dead . As a dead tre is exempt from statute planning reg's then it could be seen as unreasonable for a planning department to place a condition on exempt tree(s) that fall outside the realms of planning permission as the tree had come to the end of its life and had not been felled prematurely . However i would always reccomend where possible and especially in the situation of an avenue of trees that they are replanted . I guess it depends on the local Tree Officers but down here in Cornwall i have found them to be verry fair and sensible in such situations .
  24. my thought was that you could fell dead trees without any applications to the LA as dead trees are exempt thus meaning you would not be expected to re plant. But it would be nice to see an avenue re planted .
  25. has anyone tried the Edelweiss rope/kit bags ? EDELWEISS TRANSPORT RUCKSACK Rope Bag - Ropes + Accessories Buy Rope Bags Buy UK
